Before I go I would like to wish everyone on this forum a great festive season fulled with the joy (an frustrations!) that only families and friends can provide :p

Be safe out there and see ya all in 2012...let's hope the Mayans are wrong! :p

Cheers,

Brad

no its only called christmas, not even in all Christian countries. For example in Sweden its called Jul (Yule), in Germany the call it Weihnachten.

You have to realize that just because its celebrated in a certain way in your country its not likely that everyone else in the world also does it,

The Swedish Jul is more related to the old Norse tradition in which the winter solstice is celebrated since it means
the beginning of the return of the light. This is celebrated by having a large party (Blót) which include a large julboard
with plenty of various food-dishes. Sure the Christian church have merged their x-mas with the Jul butup here
its still more jul then Christmas.

Who cares about Sweden, see Saab has finally gone kaput.

If it has anything to do with the birth of Christ then it is Christmas - not winterville or any other PC garbage

Perfectly chilled, well not quite have just dropped a clanger which has cost me some money, will have to come out of swmbo pressie not to mention slow deliveries from suppliers, lazy sods should be doing extra shifts if they are busy.

If we wanted to recognize the birth of Christ, we would be celebrating in Novemver... or September by some historical accounts.
But that is perhaps subject to a suggested new thread :)

Merry Christmas to all and God bless us everyone.

The Parade magazine offered in many large city Sunday newspapers did a variation of the Christmas Carol using parts of the story line from many recent movies.
It was actually rather fascinating.
If your paper has it, it is worth reading.

Indeed the Christian Christmas is the same festival as the winter solstice. As the occasion was converted for the purpose. The reality is that nobody is even sure what year Jesus was born, never mind the time of year and certainly not an exact date.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everybody! You do realize that if you married a non-Orthodox Christian your twelve days of Christmas would be apprx. 24 and by the time you finished with the buying listed in the song, your house would look like a barnyard?http://www.motorsportforums.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

I think I will start to celebrate Ţorrablót instead of Christmas:

Ţorrablót - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ţorrablót)

Ţorrablót (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈθɔrːaplout]), or Thurseblot, is an Icelandic midwinter festival that takes place in the month of Ţorri, according to the Old Icelandic Calendar, which starts in late January and ends in late February.

I couldn't either, but it is part of our family tradition to watch the King's speech on Christmas Eve with my inlaws, and the Queen's speech with my parents (well, my mum actually... my dad is Irish :p ).
It was more of a homily than a speech this year :dozey:
