Peter Gethin winner of the 1971 Italian GP has died at 71. This may still be the record for the closest F1 finish ever.

RIP Peter, thanks for the memory of passing Denny Hulme's Mclaren in the F5000 Chevron - the last time I went motor racing with my Dad. You can discuss matters of the turf with him now, he was always a big fan of you and your father's career.

One of the drivers who my parents used to watch when they made regular trips up to Mallory Park in the 1970s - it's not that big a leap to suggest that, but for him, I might not have become a fan of the sport. Statistically the least successful Grand Prix winner (his next best finishes were a pair of sixths) but somehow you sense that suited this down-to-earth racer.
