Apparently, the Singapore video review in Formula1.com includes an actual quote from Rob Smedley telling Massa "Hold Hamilton as much as we can. Destroy his race as much as we can. Come on, boy...".

I believe this is unimportant - obviously Ferrari would like Massa to hold Hamilton up as much as he could, as both Ferrari drivers would have benefitted from that. However, the Autosport headline is "Radio broadcast revelation stokes Massa and Hamilton collision controversy (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/95025)". I think that this is unrelated - the collision was clearly Hamilton's fault, and Massa had all the right to be upset after the race, although shoving Lewis was clearly out of line. Even so, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that someone thinks differently. ;)

There is a good reason they put that radio broadcast on the video. It sheds new light on the incident.
But for those with a closed mind...alas, even with damning new evidence, it changes nothing.
Hamilton hatred is too hard to let go off.

There is a radio engineer telling his driver to purposely hold another driver up, that driver doing so, then purposly pitting him when Hamilton pits then being extremely slow on the outlap and when Hamilto tries to pass, Felipe makes for darn sure that he slams the door closed. Then acts with bewilderment afterwards at the incident. Felipe tried to destroy Hamilton;s race and nearly succeeded. Even though Hamilton came in for repairs and then again for his drive trhu. Massa was at that point well ahead of him, but Hamilton managed to catch up and pass him. So Massa destroyed his own race.

Is he in a fight for the WDC against Alonso and Massa is there too help?
The only reason is vindictiveness or a clear acknowledgment that Hamilton and mclaren are miles faster, and if you can't beat them, destroy them

I remember when he had his situation in Australia 09 with the team radio and we got plenty of pages about that and some calling for race bans etc.

This is not a big deal, Smedley is constantly on the radio telling this and that to Massa who obviously needs coaching. I don't think that message should be taken literally.

Actually I don't think there would be a reaction if the roles were reversed.

Talking about destroying another driver's race is perfectly normal. Schumi did exactly the same to Lewis back at Monza though there wasn't a collision.

What Smedley said can only be controversial if you interprete it to mean 'hit Lewis' and anyone with the faintest idea of F1 would know that simply wasn't the case.

Well written piece.

I think this says more about Massa, Smedley and the rather strange relationship they have. Most drivers would expect a message about holding a driver behind but it sounds rather churlish for an engineer to be instructing a driver to "destroy" another drivers race.

Still, unless there is telemetry otherwise, then this just a childish statement and nothing more.

Action needs to be taken against Massa alright...he needs to learn how to race without constantly being told to by his engineer, baby. I like Felipe I think he's a talented, gracious guy who enjoys what he does. But his pace seems to be lacking...whether that's since his comeback or not I don't know but there's something not right with him this season.

Because there's nothing malicious about it.

That sort of language is used all the time in the everyday world. It may not be literally but you get the gist.

A race driver should be pumped up to perform - he shouldn't need reminding that his pace isn't good enough. He should know that by his position relative to the others cars and his team mate.

That's a bit of an overstatement. Massa has been pretty close to Alonso many times this season and sometimes even faster but it just doesn't seem work out for him. IMO being number two driver has just made him lose his confidence. It doesn't take much to see it on the race track.

Or , how about "decapitate" , or "eviscerate" it ?

184 to 84 is a bit of an overstatement.

If he wasn't happy being a lap dog, he should have been faster or gone to a team more in line with his ability.

I miss the good old days of the Senna's punching Irvine's, Shoes trying to kill Coulthard's in their garages etc etc. The "Massa assaults Hammy Boy" idea was ludricous :s hock:

I would love the FIA to re-investigate the collision to see whether Massa was slower than usual out of that corner. However I don't believe that "destroy" equates to "collide with", I believe it was simply common slang being blown out of all proportion - much like the so-called "assault".

True, especially the part I've bolded. In the "good old days" so frequently referenced, we'd read a handful of driver quotes in Monday's papers or, for the dedicated fan, in Autosport the following Thursday. We never had the access to the drivers that we do now with the associated forensic examination of every interview, quote, press conference, tweet, or shrug of the shoulders.

It was actually in youtube but they removed it later because of Formula1 Management. Alas!!
