View Full Version : Tattoed Brits

In early September I was on vacation in Turkey. On the beach I noticed that quite a number of Brits who stayed at that hotel were heavily tattoed (dragons, spiders and that kinda stuff). No other nationality came even close. There was one Russian with tattoos an a couple of Turks, while everybody else was clean. I wonder whether tattoing is that common in the UK.

I would say tattooing is fairly common in Britain. Personally I dont have any tattoos and wouldn't want any either. :)

My opinion on folk that have tottoos (not small discreet ones, but the large in your face type of thing) is best not shared on here. SUffice it to say that I think some folk have more money than sense.

The same applies, IMHO, with body piercing - oh, and newborn kids that have pierced ears - I mean, did the 6 month old actually ask for that????

Some people seem to assume that getting a tattoo is a one way ticket to coolsville (evidently by my use of the word 'coolsville' I do not have any tats).

That's not to say that some people can't pull it off. My mate Justin just wouldn't be Justin without his innumerable tattoos.

But, presumably, you also believe that people should be free to spend their money however they wish?

I don't have any Tats (Tattoo's, not Tatty Bojangles ;) ) although I was considering getting one done of Wilkinson dropping 'that' goal after the 2003 RWC just to p*ss off the Antipodeans :D

However, and I agree this is a gross generalisation, I feel that lots of 'body art' tends to look a bit cheap.

When you are younger, you can toy with things like that. About ten years ago I was seriously thinking about having my girlfriend's name tattoed on my hip. Needless to say, if I practically implemented that idea my current wife who is not identical with that girlfriend, would be less than happy seeing it every now and then. ;)

It is now fairly common among teens and tweens in Belarus to have tattoos, but it was still surprising to see so many middle age and middle class (well, maybe lower middle class) looking guys from one country turn up in force and sport their tattoos.

I'm from the UK, aged 36 and dont have any tats, just dont get what's so 'cool' about it, I find them quite tacky personally. Im studying Aero Engineering at college at the moment and there are quite a few of the younger student classmates with them, one of the girls even has a 'tramp stamp' (A tat on the small of your back).

Not for me but each to their own, as they say...

Well, that depends upon whether or not the tattoo wearer is working for a living or claiming benefits.

If they've earned their money then yes, they can do with it whatever they want. If they are on benefits, I am of the opinion that fags, booze, tattoos etc should be off limits.

I once knew a Brit Girl that had tattoos of Paul McCartney and John Lennon on each upper thigh. To verify the tattoos they pulled a drunk off the street and asked him what he saw. He said the one on the left looks like Paul McCartney, the one on the right looks like John Lennon and the one in the middle looks like Willie Nelson.

That reminds of the politician caught for sexual harrassment - when questioned, he said "I neither touched her left leg nor her right leg, just somewhere in the middle"

Depends on the tattoo or bodykit

It depends on the design, and what it is on etc
I don't have any tattoos yet, because I'd probably regret them very quickly
Oh, and tattoos on cars (and mid 90's toyota vans) look ****e

A boat with Cuban refugees is heading for Florida. Suddenly an old man feels like he is about to die. "Anybody got a Cuban flag?", asks he. "I need to kiss it before I die". After some hesitation a gorgeous looking girl says shyly, "I have it tattoed on my butt". Then she makes it available for the kisses of the old man and he is doing it passionately for a while. Then, clearly revitalized, he says: "Okay, I kissed goodbye to the Cuban flag, now I need to kiss goodbye to Fidel".

That was a joke, of course.

So, did the Cuban consider Fidel to be an ar5eh0le or a c**t. The former he could be in trouble....... ;)

Nothing wrong with tattoo's as they long as they good. I have four, they all mean a lot to me and are unique, and are not the same tattoos that you see everyone have. I don't like the "tribal" rubbish on the arms, everybody has this!

To generalize and say all tattoos are crap / bad / tacky etc is incorrect in my opinion. Some are horrible, but quite a lot are very good and very personal and mean a lot to the people that have them.

To each their own. There's a few people that I know who are well into that scene and have gradually had sleeves done. Then there are a few girls I know who have little delicate designs (I actually quite like some of them) and a few who had a crap 'copy' design out of a book when they were younger and now regret it.

Personally I wouldn't want one, mainly because I can't think of anything that isn't tacky/lame/going to annoy me in 15 years....allow that said I did have a number 5 on my arm the other day (from the cloakroom in a club) and drunkenly thought that might look quite cool and actually be different.

I have one tattoo... and I love it. :) I'd like another but right now I've simply got more important things to spend my money on.

I happen to like them and I think you can spot the ones that mean something to the wearer and the one's that have been done on a whim.

Car decals don't seem to look so good on brick like on the yota van, decent roofrack may work out. Agree on this decent white bodykit, nice harmony, it looks good with or without decorative sticker. I'd rather have it with sticker, my daughter may ask me to put on it her favorite color.. :)

Not at all. My tattoos are out of sight in plain clothes and are not for showing off my body. I am very happy with myself and the tattoos reflect important things in my life.

That still doesn't explain why though.

I'm very happy with my kids for example but I don't feel the need to have their names tattooed on my calf.
