View Full Version : Name the Car 4

This was done in the Rally forum for years so I thought I'd bring it back with a slight difference. I've decided to leave it open to all forms of motorsport, and, resultantly, have posted it here as opposed to any specific racing/rally forum. For those who've not played before, the rules are simple: someone uploads a picture of a racing/rally car which has been edited in order to make it difficult to identify (it is up to you to decide how you want to edit the pic). First person to identify the photo, gets to pick the next one. You may require for more details such as driver, year and/or location if you wish.

As a side note, I find it gets terribly confusing if everybody jumps on the bandwagon and posts pictures. The order becomes lost and the thread becomes all criss-crossed. It would be great if we could stick to one pic at a time. If a poster disappears, however, a new pic can be posted by anyone. Right, let's get the ball rolling:

Car and Year please :D

Without seeing the helmet... Is that a Formula Renault in 2006/7 with Sebastian Vettel driving?

That car should be called Tarquin IMO..... :D

No. Roll back to the previous decade.

52Paddy

No. The driver is mostly associated with sports cars.

I'm gonna say a Brabham from 1992. (love this game btw)

schmenke
6th September 2011, 15:34
That's what I was thinking. The front end anyways resembles a Brabham.

Not giving us much to work with Paddy :p :

Correct! The driver is Eric van de Poele. I'll post the full pic when I get home. It's not on my work PC. In the mean time, hit us with a new one Sonic!

Thanks sonic, I'll post an easy one for the time being :) :

I'd say it's F1 from 1984-86. It looks a little like the Williams, from my imagination, but given that it's number 15, that's unlikely the answer.

schmenke
7th September 2011, 23:24
Yes, it's F1.
A tad earlier than 1984.
Not a Williams.

CarlMetro
8th September 2011, 01:14
I reckon it's a 1980 Renault RS20, Jean Pierre Jabouille was number 15 for Renault in those days but not sure about the colour scheme so I may be wrong.

Rollo
8th September 2011, 01:20
It's a Renault RE30, and it's Prost driving because it's got a red number 15 on. I suspect that it's from 1982 because it's a black tail variety. Can't tell you which GP it is though.

Rollo

I don't anyone will ever get this, so I'll award it to this answer:

Ford Cortina?

I think that the Mk1 Cortina has the most distinctive tail lights of any car around:
http://www.chromjuwelen.com/images/cache/304x197-http---www.retroscenemag.com-image.axd-picture-Mk1-Cortina-lights.jpg

This however was... a TVR Grantura.
http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/ad297/rollo75/TVRGrantura07.jpg

I saw one of these on the road last week. To date it's the only one I've ever seen... and yes they are Mk1 Cortina tail light clusters.

Nice car that TVR. Tricky picture though.

What car, no longer in producition (I think), boasted this distinctive interior?

The only thing I can think of that would be wide enough to fit three-wide like that is a Pacer , but was probably pretty common in Cowtown in the good ol' days of the seventies , so a long-shot here .

schmenke
22nd December 2011, 20:11
Nothing as ugly as a Pacer Baggy :) .
This vehicle was in production well into the '80s.

Our continental friends on the other side of the pond would likely recognize it ;)

I've got no idea, but it doesn't look all that old really. I've never seen a 1+2 seat split like that. Is that a gated shifter or just a strange looking automatic shifter?

I am a bit amazed that Schmenke didn't get offended that I called Cowtown "Pacerville" .

Nah Baggy, my wife drove a Pacer in her younger days growing up in New Brunswick :p : . I still giggle at that, but she swore by it.
Nowadays in Cowtwon, it you ain't driving an F150, you're probably eating quiche for lunch :mark: :p : .

I'll let Donks have a go; he got it :)

I honestly thought this was an easy one. The only vehicle that I know of that had a three-seat interior was the Matra Bagheera, produced in France during the '70s and '80s. I always thought it was a sharp looking car for it's time:
The Matra-Simca Bagheera (http://www.matrasport.dk/Cars/Bagheera/history.html)

OK, I think this needs a bit of a crash-course: After you've edited your picture and saved the file, go to the "Go Advanced" option below the quick reply box. Click on "Manage attachments" then "Upload file". Select your file by ticking the box beside it, then click "Upload". A link to the file will appear then. Be sure not to name the file the name of the car, as it will appear on the post and, obviously, give away your answer.

Note that some of the terms that I've used above may not be word-for-word but you get the idea. Easy peasy :)

Good work on getting the pic up. Here's my guess:

Model: Ascona 400
Driver: Jimmy McRae
Event: Very hard to know but I'll go with The Circuit of Ireland?

PS: It would be better if you could edit out the picture of the car so we are ONLY identifying the car itself. It's easy to do - open the picture in Windows paint and mess around with the various tools. But, since it's your first go, we'll continue with this one as is :)

Close, its the 613. Started to be imported into the UK in tiny numbers back when I was a teenager in the 90s. Very rare here and IMO also very cool, a vision of where vw would have been if the carried on with the type 4

In case you want and even want to buy CCTV for your business or home, you might want to seek for a trusted CCTV installer; one that is from a recognized and revered security company. Beware of getting low-quality substandard cheap CCTV cameras on the market. They lure you with their unbelievably low prices yet are certainly not useful when it comes to supplying you with good service. There are affordable CCTV products out there but in no way purchase low-quality cheap CCTV.
