To better understand the large difference the new car makes. I have modeled the new car at T2 Exit to T3 Entry with the following projection.
I am a bit of an amateur at this but I bet it will look like this.
2011
Race Weight 1750 (190 pounds for driver and fuel)
Corner Exit Speed 165 MPH
Turn 3 Entry Speed 173 MPH
Required Down Force 2500 Pounds
Drag 868 Pounds- 382 HP
Surplus Power 650 – 65 loss – 382 = 203 HP
Surplus W/P = 1750/203 = 8.6 lbs per hp
2012
Race Weight 1570
Corner Exit Speed 170.5 MPH
Turn 3 Entry Speed 185 MPH
Required Down Force 2500 Pounds
Drag 631 Pounds- 287 HP
Surplus Power 700 – 70 loss – 287 = 343 HP
Surplus W/P = 1570/343 = 4.6 lbs per hp

Thanks for the reality Hoop. But you do realise this just isn't exciting to some

What is actually known about the new car? Wouldn't drag and down force be dependent on the aero kit? I heard them throw numbers out but is it known what the "permitted" horse power will be? I know you're spit-balling but I'm just trying to find out what is actually known about the new specs.

For R/C and short oval 2 things are the big deal.
L/D ratio will decide high speed acceleration, I am projecting moving from 2.9 to the high threes. All we know is it is "much better".
The weight is huge if met, it guarantees a fast car for RC's.
The future will tell....

Interesting Hoop. I look forward to seeing more. In case you didn't see this Speed article yet, I'll leave the link. Maybe some info there you can use.

Yep read it, some interesting stuff. I think he meant 300 pounds less drag in speedway form, not 30. At 220 MPH 30 pounds = 18 HP, 300 is 180 which would make sense.

Can you do some kind of comparison but using a course and not an oval?

If what we are hearing about downforce is true, I expect the car to be 2 - 5 seconds quicker on a 75 second circuit.

Im wondering why they are keeping the speeds and lap times secret from Mid-Ohio on the new car. Is it because it didnt perform good at all ? Maybe EagleEye can give us somewhat of a reason.
