I dont get why Dover Motorsports keeps kicking NASCAR out of all their tracks. I really like Nashville superspeedway and am really sad to see it go.

Dover Motorsports declines 2012 NASCAR sanctions for Nashville: Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Nashville Superspeedway, has notified NASCAR that it will not seek any 2012 race sanctions. Nashville has a few events left on the schedule for the remainder of 2011 that will not be impacted by today's announcement. Denis McGlynn, President & CEO of Dover Motorsports, stated, "We deeply appreciate all the hard work that our employees have put into making Nashville Superspeedway such a remarkable facility, and Cliff Hawks will remain to assist us with transition issues. We have also had years of unrelenting support from state, county and local officials and from the racing community from racing fans and drivers to sponsors, team owners and various sanctioning bodies. We are, however, at a juncture where we must evaluate all of our options for this track, including its possible sale." Nashville Superspeedway first opened in 2001 and is situated on almost 1,400 acres of owned land just outside of Nashville, Tennessee on Route 840 (connecting Interstate 40 with Interstate 24). The 1.33 mile concrete superspeedway has 25,000 permanent grandstand seats, lights for nighttime racing, foundation work for a dirt track, short track and drag strip and infrastructure in place to expand to 150,000 seats.(Dover Motorsports PR)(8-3-2011)

It's a shame, but without a Sprint Cup race, there are very few major speedways that can stay in business.

Vice president and general manager of Nashville Superspeedway, Cliff Hawks, stated, "Nashville is a tremendous market filled with passionate race fans. We have some extremely dedicated and talented employees who have made this track a great destination, but the reality is, after ten years of effort, we have to face the fact that without a Sprint Cup race and/or a significant change in the operating model for other events, we simply cannot continue."

With this and it looking like the series isn't going back to Montreal either, what tracks are going to be added or get an extra date?

I can imagine this is a situation all non-cup tracks are facing.

Why wouldn't they go back to Montreal?

NASCAR - NNS: Montreal Race In Jeopardy (http://nascar.speedtv.com/article/nns-montreal-race-in-jeopardy-nascar/)

The Quebec government on Wednesday rejected developer Francois Dumontier's request for $1 million in government assistance, half each from Quebec and Ottawa, to help offset an anticipated $1.6 million deficit caused by the staging of the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Montreal.

"The developer has not satisfactorily proven to the Department of Tourism that it would be profitable for them to invest in the event," said Isabelle Lord, spokeswoman for Tourism Minister Nicole Menard.

This funding shortfall likely means August's Nationwide Series race will be the end of NASCAR racing at the Gilles Villeneuve track on Montreal's Ile Notre-Dame.

Don't worry, I'm sure NASCAR will just plug in another mile and a half.

That's a shame. It's such a beautiful venue and a challenging track. I hate losing road course races.

Agreed. The park where the track is located is a truly beautiful place. I attended the 1996 Canadian GP there and also have visited when there wasn't a race. I had hoped to maybe take this race in some day when I retired.

That's a question that wont be answered..but it may come down to what the City wants to release the island for racing. i suspect the Casino is compesated for tying up access to it with a race weekend. I don't know, I am grasping at straws.

Pete Pistone apparnetly said on his Twitter and FB though that Mosport could get the race. I think Pete may be getting played, but I am all for it!!!

The rumour is out there that Dover may be for sale itself. God knows what will happen if Bruton gets his hands on it. You have to know Vegas will get their second date from Dover...
