Just after Finland it's time for WRC Germany. Not much info on this forum concerning this event. Is nobody going?? Does anyone has some good spots for viewing the rally? In 2010 there were some google earth files of the stages, but unfortunately haven't found them for 2011. I did find the stages in pdf over here: 2shared - download Rallye-D_2011-Karten.rar (http://www.2shared.com/file/qUmAoptZ/Rallye-D_2011-Karten.html)

Why do they keep putting the MINI WRC Team as priority 1, when they don't score Manu points. Shouldn't they be priority 2?

I was only trying to tempt N.O.T into another icecube bashing session with that.....Petter could get a podium in a DS3, but I don't think the Fiesta;s will be so far off the pace compared to Focus vs C4 on tarmac.

I think kimi could be up to forth with a lot of effort though (like in bulgaria), if he had some experience of the event...but his shakedown accident last year diminishes his chances this year... i would like to see him 4th to be honest. And i would not be surprised by a solid run by him (6th to 8th without benefitng from retirements)...i mean after years of running in circles on tarmac he must have learned something.

I hope they are not...ok Loeb is out of the question, especially in germany he cannot be beaten by driving.

Ogier though is a realistic target i think for the ford kids if the car is close to the ds3.

Interesting to look at the early Pickems. Almost everyone going for a Loeb win, although one brave soul has put Latvala 1st and Loeb 2nd! A couple have put Sordo in 2nd too despite the Mini having no competition experience on tarmac which is hopeful in my opinion. Also very little confidence in Petter and JML (by all but one anyway!) which I disagree with - both showed much improved tarmac pace last season.

Really interesting to see what Ford can do with the Fiesta...

Germany is one of my favourite rallies, okay I admit, they could really try to reshape the route (nearly the same every year nowdays). Now when Ireland is not driven, it's the only "special tarmac" rally.

I hope Fiesta kicks ass, if it does, then I'm waiting a lot from JML. I'm also waiting a surprise from Sordo. Maybe he'll toss it or the car will go kaboom, but I'm expecting him to be fighting for a podium place. ;)

Yeah, agree!! Needs a fresh look, new stages. It's become very monotonous - and sums up modern WRC era rallying. Thank goodness Finland/ Acropolis have done something different.

Petter wouldn't be allowed to win. Perhaps only if both the seb's have trouble. Petter will be app .4sec/km slower than the factory citroens. Maybe later this year, if Citroen wraps up both the titles early.

I wouldn`t say it is a very long way from Trier, considering the milage on road sections in the recent Neste Oil rally.

15th August 2011, 12:54
Why not add one leg with Eifel Rallye stages (don't know anything about the stages there) and then also a run on Nordscheilfe. New stages for the rally and they could make the Mosel valley stages into a more compact one day, then one at the Baumholder and one near Daun/Nürburg. Or how ever things will run smoother.

hsmed
15th August 2011, 13:02
Nordschleife has been used as a stage in Rally Deutschland many times in the years before the rally was a part of the WRC. If my memory is right they also had the rally center at the Nurburgring once in the late 90's.

I wasn't suggesting Petter can win, but most have him 5th, 6th or lower which is a surprise. I disagree he'll be slower than Ogier...I think Petter is a far better tarmac driver than people give him credit for, and can see him being the 2nd fastest driver in Germany. Whether or not he can finish 2nd, for whatever reason, is another mater ;)

15th August 2011, 16:41
defently tom! please no eifel and no nordschleife, hat would totally suck! they could so easily change all stages, there are hundrets of vineyard roads that could be used to change the stage totally in every year. and same is on panzerplatte, you could create a completely new stage there every year.

What kind of performance we can anticipate from Campana? His driving impressed me in Corsica but those were his home roads...

I have to ask and look stupid but who is Campana? :) I will research... :)

Corsican, 2WD winner of Tour de Corse, this year with 207 S2000 he was 4th overall and 1st privateer. Also set many good results in 2WD categories in other asphalt events like Ypres, Sanremo etc.

defently tom! please no eifel and no nordschleife, hat would totally suck! they could so easily change all stages, there are hundrets of vineyard roads that could be used to change the stage totally in every year. and same is on panzerplatte, you could create a completely new stage there every year.

I believe that. I had yesterday a look at the stages with rally-maps. Here’s an example of SS16/18 Moselwein Rally Map | Rally-Maps.com (http://www.rally-maps.com/map/position/0/16/49.84730914163155/6.853344440460205).

I found also couple of odd junction on Arena Panzerplatte, 7,8 km from the start and 19,8 km from start Rally Map | Rally-Maps.com (http://www.rally-maps.com/map/position/1/17/49.65492572850773/7.320370674133301).

Another one is at 10,5 km from start and 13,3 km fro start Rally Map | Rally-Maps.com (http://www.rally-maps.com/map/position/1/17/49.64413780428051/7.322838306427002).

Hope that the timing is such that two competitors don’t meet in these junctions, especially if the other one is late with the braking and go straight. These could be places for Rautenbach to take out Loeb :D .

I did a short weather forecast for Germany:

Tonight there might be some very light rain and some more rain is expected at the beginning of shakedown. It should stop around 10 AM. Then it will be try until the evening and at the moment it looks like from 5PM or 6PM some heavy thunder is expected. Very strong rainshowers might continue until midnight. Temperature during the shakedown day might reach around +30 degrees

Friday might be almost dry, but the possibility of rainshowers is still high (in the morning and lunchtime). It looks like thunder weather and experience is telling that sometimes it is not possible to forecast thunderstorms more than couple of hours. The highest possibility is around stages 2,3 and 5,6. temperature drops significantly and stays around 20 degrees
night will be very cold. temperature might drop to +10 degrees. There is high possibility of fog in the morning.

Saturday looks to come warmer again and seems that no more rain for Rally Germany this year. So, there should not be any rain on Saturday. Temperature around stages increases again and in the afternoon it can be over 25 degrees. So, tires might wear pretty well due to high temperature and abrasive stages. Night will be warmer again (over 15 degrees). Low possibility of fog early in the morning

Sunday should be dry again. And very warm. Temperature might reach over 30 degrees again. So, looks like normal German rally weather - you can expect everything!

So, take some warm gear if you plan to camp out around Baumholder district (Friday night).

Indeed! Ott has never done any rallies with S2000 car on tarmac. An he has done only 2 rallies on tarmac anyway :-) Germany (5th with superally) and France (second) last year. So, I do not expect too much. Podium would be excellent for him I think (Behind Hänninen and Prokop).

Good, then it is much easier to compare, last year for example, Pirelli Mitsubishis were over 100kg heavier than the others (Salo, Araujo etc.) and it was very difficult to compare the speed.

Prokop and Weijs have very good local knowledge and I'm sure they will be strong here.

weijs is a good driver...and he might have a future in the WRC, but he must move a bit faster if he wants a career and i do not see many resources around him, lets hope VW will change that.

Prokop is a waste of resources (thank god only his own) is one of those drivers who drive for years and years and never improve or learn anything.

Local knowledge is indeed a factor, thats why i expect ott to be faster than Prokop on day 2.

Mintexmemory

Local knowledge is indeed a factor, thats why i expect ott to be faster than Prokop on day 2.

Run that past me again! Ott has done Deutschland once and only 2 WRC tarmac events in total. Am I missing some ironic implication that OT has gained more from his 1 visit to the Mosel valley than all of Prokop's previous experience. If so, N.O.T., you have developed a subtlety I had previously not suspected

N.O.T
18th August 2011, 12:32
not as far as knowledge goes you need a lot more experience than 1-2 visits...but when it comes to driving abilities ott is on a different league than Prokop and 1 day of rallying will be sufficient to adapt to the grip levels of germany and then be faster than prokop.

at least that would be the good scenario.

From wrc.com (http://www.wrc.com/news/ogier-fastest-in-rallye-deutschland-shakedown/?fid=15184)

German Christian Riedemann, making his debut in one of two Volkswagen Motorsport Skoda Fabia S2000s, suffered a setback when he crashed into a field.

I just realized that this is the premiere of Michelin tarmac tire... It came to my mind after Meeke got double puncture. So, we witnessed many punctures on Michelin gravel and snow tire when they first appeared..I hope we willnot see the same on tarmac.

Mirek

I guess we will. In IRC where almost everyone uses Michelin it's also a common part of the game...

bluuford
18th August 2011, 15:14
But they are not using control tires.. at the same time they are not using WRcars as well which are more aggressive.. so,you must be right. So, my offer is between 5 and 7 punctures in total among top 15 seeded drivers ;-) Shakedown does not count!

In my view he is the driver with biggest potential among current German rally drivers. He might reach to somewhere. I f I would be Volkswagen and searching young driver for second team, then he would be perfect. He is not too old, he is quite fast with minimal experience outside Germany and most important thing..he is German :-)

Finally... a TARMAC rally !!!

Its been so long and so boring watching all these near-identical gravel events this Season ... they really need to put in more tarmac rounds and mix up the programme ...

Anyway its great to see the latest WRC cars going hard and looking so good on the road.

Love it... especially the Fiesta's :)

I can tell you that "b****" is totally wrong word to describe her. Anette interviewed me before NORF and we also had a nice chat. Very warm, easygoing and expressive personality - even offered me a lift in MTV3's car on the test stage - which was much appreciated. :)

I'm eagerly waiting for tomorrow... It's been three months since the last time I've been at home following a WRC event. Let the action begin! Loeb will win SS1 by a margin of 2,3 seconds and Petter second. ;)

after watching those videos, im convinced the mini is one of the worst sounding cars ever! Sounds so muffled, some people love the popping but the cackle it has is silly. the citroen by far sounds the best, its just sounds like raw power...

In the words of your great President Urho kkekkonen when Richard Nixon decended the stairs, he stuck out his hand and tried to say "welcome to Finland. How are you"

but he really said "Who are you?"
So, why would some nice lady interview you?

In my view he is the driver with biggest potential among current German rally drivers. He might reach to somewhere. I f I would be Volkswagen and searching young driver for second team, then he would be perfect. He is not too old, he is quite fast with minimal experience outside Germany and most important thing..he is German :-)

hm, he´s not so bad as it seems, but im really, really looking forward to what sepp wiegand in riedemans academy fiesta will show us on this weekend. in my opinion he´s a big, big talent. and he´s still pretty young too, only his 2nd season and not mutch experience(as far as i know he only drove 12 rallyes in germany and one in france with a swift grp. n) but some massive speed. but this weekend will defenetly show how fast all our german talents really are. i hope i wont get disappointed (again). now we´ll leave off to the stages, have fun today guys!

:D Well, it was just a question of being on the right place on the right time. I was at Loeb's Finland test and for some reason, they included a few "true fans" to the story and I ended up being on TV.

AFAIK the split system is incorporated to the GPS tracker safety system and that system has to be in every car.

Jari Matti Latvala with a fantastic start with his Ford Fiesta WRC in Germany.
The Finn Ford driver Jari Matti Latvala made a fantastic start in the first stage of ADAC Rally Germany the 24.18 km Ruwertal / Fell 1.
Latvala time is: 13:57.4 with average speed of 103.95 km/h. Second is S. Ogier at +1.5 sec. S. Loeb is third at +2.0 sec, fourth is Mikko Hirvonen at +2.4 sec and fifth is Peter Solberg at +6.7 sec.
