Numbers game

Just a quick one - sorry, one with as-promised parity to all the rest :rolleyes: - regarding numbers in the BTCC. Earlier this season, when Rob Austin replaced Dave Pinkney in the Audi, the car number changed from 12 to 13. This is pretty much the way it's always gone as far back as I can remember, with the number changing depending on the driver, not the car.

Then this weekend, Tom Onslow-Cole moves from the #99 Volkswagen to a Ford carrying the number 4, and Shaun Hollamby takes over the 99.

So what exactly are the current regs on numbers?

I think the regs on numbers are entirely at the organiser's discretion.

Drivers have changed numbers mid-season without changing; James Kaye in 2005 switching from #10 to #35.
Drivers keeping the same number when switching teams; Dave Newsham #17 at Special Tuning Racing and Geoff Steel Racing.
Drivers changing their number when switching teams; Tom Onslow-Cole this year.
And drivers picking up a number that was used by another driver that same year; Shaun Hollamby.
