If I make a word, for argument's sake - GRAZIERS worth 18 points and it falls on a Double Word Score, do you:
a) Score 18 X 2 and then add 50 points for a total of 86?
OR
b) Score 18 + 50 and then double it for a total of 136?
I tried to find the official scrabble rules but they are vague. I figured that someone might have an idea of what they might be though.

Personally, I would think the answer is (a). This is the rule I would enforce, with recourse to a lawyer if necessary, were I playing.

It's rule (a) - the 50 point bonus is added only after all other scoring has been done.
That said, I believe the makers were of the opinion - as with Monopoly, Cluedo and all the classics - that "house rules" can be applied. So unless you're organising some kind of World Championship, you can probably do what you like :D
