Vettel is now a true champion - first man (and probably not the last) into the wall of champions this weekend. After Turkey I don't think it'll derail him in the slightest though.
Hamilton will probably be up there pacewise, he has always done well at Montreal, 2008 lunacy aside.
Very much look forward to this race, it has never disappointed since I started watching.

not only did Vettel stuff the red bull into the wall of champions, but watch the video in the link for the first marshall over the wall to try to get to the car in the video on the BBC website (sorry non UK members, you may be able to find the vid elsewhere). This has to be the funniest thing i've seen in F1 for a while (not Vettel, but the marshall)

I didn't see the funny guy , but something else drew my attention to some video on youtube .
He seemed to stop very quickly as he stared to slide along the wall .
It looked like , perhaps he perforated the skin of the barrier , and it "hooked" him to a halt really fast .
Had he been going faster , it might have been uglier .
Does anybody know the make-up of that particular barrier right there , other than it's apparent magnetism ?
It looks to be a tarp sort of thing on the surface .

I did spot Vettel inspecting the front right after he got out of the car, that may be what he was looking at.

All happening in Practice.
Should be a good race.
I have a feeling though the DRS may give us too many easy passes again. Another race that doesn't need the system.
I also laughed hard when I saw the marshall fall over.
I have to also add, the way he fell made me feel sorry for him.

PDLR was an easy choice to fill that vacancy, given that he was familiar with the car already.

McLaren may have shot themselves in the foot by setting themselves up for the (possible) rain on race day.
Time and time again we've seen the only maxim that works in racing is maximise you speed for the conditions as they are at that moment in time. Even if its wet, starting from row 3 and 4 leaves them open to shunts.
I may be proved wrong (for the sake of the championship I hope I am) but I can only see another Seb win at this rate.

1. he would have missed q2
2. he has never driven in montreal
3. I don't think he has ever driven the 2011 sauber
4. PDLR has both the knowledge of the team and the track
yeah, they should have had the 3d driver there and be more prepared for the possibility that perez wasn't going to be ready, but given the choice between PDLR and Gutierrez I would have given the drive to the former rather than throw the latter into the deep end with no experience with the car, let alone competing in F1
however it came about, IMO it was the right decision
This weekend was not the time to give him his shot out of sympathy.
If he had participated in friday practices then I might have reconsidered

With at least some rain expected, it could prove to be genius as well. One of the guys from SpeedTV made a comment that the McLaren was down almost 10 mph over even some middle of the pack cars on the long straights. Considering that setup, they did well today in qually. Even if it doesn't rain that extra downforce might help keep them out of trouble and give more opportunity to attack. Canada causes a lot of off line incidents in the chicances and hairpins. I don't think I would count McLaren out of the game yet for this weekend.
Great showing by Ferrari as well. Alonso barely got in front of Felipe.
As usual Sebastian showing real form.

But surely they will be sitting ducks to be overtaken on the straights... but on the other hand with double DRS, maybe everyone will be sitting ducks anyway, regardless of downforce levels, so I see your point.

It is possibly an interesting tactic to put on bit more
wing for the corners since you can take it off on the straights. Maybe !

Some have it figured that the Macs have a wet set-up , and others have it that they had too long a seventh gear , due to the wind direction change .
Wind is expected to be the same as qualifying , so the big gear may again compromise the top end , a so , could be a bad thing .
And rain is expected , so the suspected rain set-up may help , and be a good thing .
Maybe more importantly , Lewis is again , albeit not as far , down the field , and pi$$ed at not getting pole , where he's sat for the last three he's raced here , so there may be some "mist" in the air , not just rain .

What a thrilling race! It was filled with action when the racing was going on (and the safety car wasn't touring around). It has left so many talking points and showcased the ability of some drivers (notably Schumacher, Kobayashi and Di Resta). While I'm still on the fence about DRS, it must be noted that for the first half of the race, or so, DRS was not enabled and we still got some great action. I really think Pirelli have hit the nail on the head with regard to tyres. DRS does add another dilemma but I don't think it's needed to 'spice up the show'. The show seems to be spicing up fairly nicely as is  Maybe we've just entered an era of competitive racing again :D

The problem is reliance on aero-grip. Wider tires and wider cars would allow passing in somewhere other than braking zones at the end of long straights.
Speaking of braking, get rid of carbon fibre brakes and a return to steel would help too.
Just my two cents...

Good suggestions. As the cars are, DRS is just a solution that should make up for the grip lost from following a car, but reducing that grip loss should be the aim.
Not just what you said, but if we make sure that wings are made to produce far less downforce without looking stupidly small (apparently the hanford device did this) and have some stringent ground effects allowances, this would also help.
