Vettel's celebration on the podium – a little sip of the champagne provided for the winner – was strictly speaking illegal due to recently introduced strict drinking laws in Turkey.

The new laws apparently prevent anyone under the age of 24 taking part in events where alcohol is served, and the current F1 World Champion and Turkish Grand Prix victor is only 23.

Well the law is the law, no matter how stupid it is, and when you are a guest in another country they should be obeyed. Lucky he got away with it.

As gloomyDAY says, no one really cares though.

Except it wasn't champagne, it was rosewater as is always the case in Muslim countries. A little research wouldn't have hurt... :s

extradite his buttocks, strip the win, and give him five years in a turkey prison.....even if it is rose water, the criminal intent was still there

"attempted consumption of booze in public"

In any case, if Vettel has braked the law, I'd assume that he would have enough speed to escape, wouldn't he?

The headline had me worried for a second, I had visions of Midnight Express. I guess alcohol free champagne couldn't have a voided this.

Yay, Webber wins in Turkey and the Spanish Inquisition can charge Vettel with conspiring to break the laws of physics.

Yay, Webber wins again... :)

A bit of historicals here. When Saudia Airlines sponsored Williams, wasn't there something in the contract about the drivers not drinking the champagne? I could be wrong but when I saw this thread it seemed to jog some long lost memory.
