Interesting compare new WRC with Maxi Rally
hehehe WRC are much faster than the Maxi Rally, they will try to compete with the N4,
it's a pity that no S2000 will come, so we wont be able to compare maxi rally with the more developed S2000 cars

Unfortunately the fastest S2000 drivers such as pozzo, Menzi, Villagra, Baldoni, Dominguez will not run
Ligato is the faster of the maxi rally, pilots that will compete, and perhaps Juan Marchetto, if he can adapt to the new car

Drivers have critiziced the tarmac sections. I just read Lehtinen's comments from one newspaper and he commented that "for example the last 20 kilometres of El Condor is a crazy-super-fast downhill tarmac section. It would be nice to have the clerk of course in the car and then in the finish, ask whether it was funny or not."

In the late 90's Toyota also customize their cars with graphics depicting the country of each event. At the rally GB painted umbrellas in the doors, kangaroos in Australia, in spain dancers, trees in Finland and some more that I don´t remember now.

That is right Kobefly, i is nice!!

Regarding superspecial, it was a nic one, as it used to be the "Camping San Martin" one back in the 90´s

Regarding El Condor stage, the first part is an amazing special, as a driver frst and as espectator also, one of te isonocs of Argentina Rally, probably the msot famous one.

The new part, the tarmac section, has some fast parts, but it is mainly a twisty mountain downhill section.
I have made some 5 timeste gravel down from El condor to Copina, and some 10 times the tarmac sections (the times I went to spectate to copina, not going up to El Condor) and I assure it is a challenging part.

probably not good to do it with worn gravel tires and gravel suspension, but it is for sure challenging.

The Citroen Total World Rally Team star, a winner in Argentina on the last five occasions, completed the morning loop of three stages 18.9s adrift of leader Jari-Matti Latvala in fourth overall. The punishment would drop the seven-time champion back to sixth position when it is applied to his total time.

Citroen will not make an official comment until senior team members have met with the rally organisers. However, it is understood Loeb’s co-driver Daniel Elena checked in two seconds ahead of the allotted time due to confusion created by a large build-up of people surrounding the timing clocks at the entrance to the control.

According to wrc.com it is 20 km but I agree with dimviii:

A 20km Tarmac section makes this a very different stage compared with its previous incarnations. A twisty, narrow, sandy downhill opening section traverses many narrow bridges before connecting with the wide, fast Tarmac portion. The drivers are expecting to be able to take big cuts here, so we can expect some dazzling bravado mixed with circumspection on the worn-out gravel tyres.

Is there a chance Latvala gambled with gear ratios, assuming his crew was allowed to change it for those stages?

From Latvala..

Hirvonen's team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala was comfortably fastest on the stage - and Ford's analysis revealed that the Finn was on the rev-limiter in top gear for the final 3.6 miles.
While Latvala's rivals lambasted the organisers for the decision to include the super-fast downhill section of asphalt at the end of SS4, Latvala blitzed the section to post the fastest time by almost 10 seconds.
M-Sport's data from the stage shows Latvala's average speed through the split section was 121.91mph.
Ford team principal Malcolm Wilson said: "I've never seen anything like this, it's absolutely incredible. The top speed of the car is only 125mph or something like that. He must have been on the limiter all the way through that section – I can't wait to see the in-car [video]!"
Latvala admitted he was as surprised as anybody when he saw the time.
"I was pushing hard," he said. "The car felt good, but I didn't expect the gap to be like this. It was quite exciting..."

From the incar video is obvious that 2 fast sections with some sec in limiter cant average 196 when most corners are with 4th-5th speed(120-150km/h about) and some even slower ones.To have this average means that you must have sections with over 230-250 km/h,and not just 2 times in limiter for few seconds.

If you miss the last stage of the day, you cet +10:00 minutes automatically. nowadays you cannot get less than 10:00 minutes penalty for Superally. Otherwise it is 5 minutes per stage, but if you retire on the last stage or roadsection, then it is +10:00. If anyone gets less than 10:00, then it is timing error.

1. Such things can happen to anyone,if I remember it correctly, it has happened before in Argentina and happened even after him. There are always so many people in Argentina Rally and this is good thing, you just have to be more careful.

2. I think we have too much noise for small thing. Other top drivers got it right? right?

3. Roadbook and rally. Rally is on the open roads and open to the people. When there are more people, then you just have to be more careful. When you see from the road book that you are close to the time control, then just send your co driver out to make sure you are in the right place in the right time!

4. You cannot always appeal to all penalties you get. I just does not look good. Sometimes you just have to admit that you made a mistake even if it was small one.

The trick is that if you changed tires after the stage 8, then those tires were deleted from your quota. And Loeb used his old tires from yesterday for stage 8. At the end of stage 11 we will see if it was good idea. He lost 12.2 sec to Ogier on SS8 (old rubber) and took 5.1 back now (new rubber).

Do you have any pictures of that place or have you been there?

juwra.com doen't provide such a statistic i think...

It does, if you know where to look:
http://www.juwra.com/statistics_timeseries_stages.html
It lists longest and shortest stages per year, as well as some other niche data.

And now, second loop which will be decisive. Can JML hold on and who, if any, will play tactics at the end?

Loeb 857 min penalty? That's joke?

Latvala continues to lose...until he finds the limit of the new stage grip.

Ogier matches his morning time......ok.

Seems that Ogier is the onlyone who is on new tires on this stage. Lets see what happens in next stages.

To confirm what i was saying about sweeping not really an issue in Argentina, time between repeated stages do nto vary that much, see Latvala Las Jarillas 1; 12m 27,6 s; Las jarillas 2 12m 28,8s
<petter <solberg 12:33 first pass, 12m 30 second pass.

N.O.T
28th May 2011, 18:33
yes seems that sweeping is not much of an issue......Latvala is not good at driving without brake points and lines then ??

N.O.T

56 seconds to the leader now......very very interesting especially that the good stages for him are infront and tommorow he cuold have a very nice starting position....

Which one of the stages is the power stage tomorrow?

bluuford
28th May 2011, 19:21
Always the last:
SS19 Cabalango 2 3.9km 12:10
That means around 5 PM in Central Europe

MikeD
28th May 2011, 19:22
That was a very short Powerstage :/

bluuford
28th May 2011, 19:32
Yes, this is the shortest so far. Well, usually they cover only approximately 4km of powerstage with TV picture, so does not matter much for the TV spectator :-)

I think if latvala continues like that Ogier will employ tactics.....which will lead in Loeb close even more and tommorow we might have a 3 driver battle for the win....

bluuford
28th May 2011, 19:55
yes seems that sweeping is not much of an issue......Latvala is not good at driving without brake points and lines then ??

There is still a lot of sweeping for the first car, specially during the second pass, due to the local cars that use different lines. Then the first car sweeps the thinlayer of loose stuff from the road and the others just follow the lines.

Hartusvuori
28th May 2011, 19:56
Ogier will take the lead. Let's wait for the tactics...

WHat is very interesting to see is Ostberg vs Wilson also.....on one hand we have a driver with no previous experience of the rally and one who has done it 4 times......i hope wilson quits soon because it really is a pain to watch.
