He's right, you know. You Americans should be proud of Jimmy Carter. Or what says Roamy:

SEOUL, South Korea -- Former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday accused the United States and South Korea of violating human rights against North Korea by withholding food aid.
"One of the most important human rights is to have food to eat," Carter said at the end of his three-day visit to Pyongyang. "And for the South Koreans and the Americans and others to deliberately withhold food aid to the North Korean people because of political or military issues not related is really indeed a human rights violation."

Jimmy Carter is a fool. A well meaning fool, but a fool none the less.
Since food is now apparantly a "right", I guess that means all the farmers around the world don't have to go out in their fields and work long hours to grow it. It is their "right", along with everybody else, to have food provided to them.
Now, could someone direct me to the line where I pick up my free food? I'm a little hungry this morning.
:p :p :p :p
Aren't there any soup kitchens where you live?

It is not our responsibility to feed N. Korea. However if the resident idiot would get out of there I am sure we could work on a nukes for food deal. The bigger problem is getting the leaders out so the people can be free - but that is something we don't need to get involved in. But with Obama and Carter running around the N.Koreans may take over this country. The way we are going our new motto will be "Chicken Sh!t and Chicken Feed"

Oh Eki, so now you bring back the "human right" load of poo. Ain't no such thing, unless a political party can use it for its own self-service.

The US and others. So therefore Finland is guilty of human rights violations as well, by his logic.

True. But at least the former President of Finland and the Nobel Peace Prize winner Martti Ahtisaari is in North Korea with Carter trying to put things right.

we should be so lucky, but if they did their duty, it would raise the world average IQ by several points.

I think Jimmy Carter is genuinely a good man and is a person with good intentions, but he should realize the U.S. shouldn't force aid into a nation that declines it, especially a country like North Korea, who should not receive any kind of support/aid from the U.S. in my opinion, due to its government and because it's likely any kind of aid we send to them won't go towards aiding the citizens' needs of that country and instead will go towards aiding North Korea's efforts of nuclear armament (http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/261114/end-it-north-korean-food-aid-aid-its-nuclear-program-rep-ed-royce).

North Koreans are starving while its leaders build Nuclear missles and the army is in control of the food. At some point, paranoia is a goal...and the midget is achieving it.
Jimmy Carter is a nice man who is almost terminally wrong. The fact Eki agrees with him doesn't surprise me. Eki is all for aid to dictators. He has proven it over and over again....

Actually I'm for food to the starving, even if they happen to live in a dictatorship.

It's difficult debate. Both Eki and Mark of Oshawa seem to have valid points... from one hand the starving need the food, from the other, the dictators are using all the resourses for weapons and deserve the blame.

The flaw in your position is that you are assuming that the starving people will ever see the food that is sent. One does not necessarily follow the other. In this case, it almost certainly does not. The typical problem with most liberal types is the failure to distinguish what should be from what is.
Not to worry. If we sent in people to ensure the hungry got the food, Eki would be upset with that too. He seemed to have been quite pleased when US soldiers were killed in Somalia, yet those same people ensured that the hungry Somalians got food. ;)

You could make a deal with the North Koreans that UN organizations deliver the food. I'm sure they'd agree, especially if the UN staff didn't include Americans, South Koreans or Japanese. And I'm sure the North Korean military and government could ensure the safety of the UN staff, unlike in Somalia where there weren't any functioning government or national military.

Ever the deluded optimist. Take a good look at North Korea's history and tell me howmany times they have honored ANY agreement. What's the old saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
As far as I know, nobody has offered them food aid with no strings attached before. The agreements have always contained demands that are unrelated to delivering the food aid. Don't expect too much from them, so you won't be disappointed.

So when the food doesn't come, is it the fault of the donor country or the dictator who wont take the food because of perceived threats? They can have the food, but why should the west feed the people who are being starved as political pawns while the regime builds nuclear weapons they don't need?

We expect the worst from North Korea, and they never disappoint. They can have the food when they quit spending their last dime on their military. Why would anyone invade North Korea? There is NOTHING there worth taking....Kim has made sure of that..

Tell that to the hungry North Koreans.

And just exactly how much food or money have YOU sent to North Korea for them to buy food? You're pretty loose with other people's assets, yet we don't hear much about you putting your money where your mouth is.
Eki is of the Noam Chomsky school. He is all for socialism as long as he uses someone else's money!

Should we wait for them to do so? Will that make them more sympathetic? Paranoia is North Korea's problem, or rather the midget's problem. It drives his not feeding his people.....
Eki, the problem isn't a problem if North Korea quits treating its people as possessions and starts treating its people as if they deserve a decent life. The Jailer in the prison determines who eats, and who doesn't.
