Thanks for posting.

I hope the Protons reach the finish. Times looking good: Atko in the lead with almost 30secs margin after 4 stages. Alister having problems, lost over a minute on this stage and 3 mins in stage 3?

Proton do indeed seem to have made a step on performance; I am sure they were struggling even to beat this opposition last year. Seems like McRae has had some mechanical problems or punctures though?

I'm just wondering why on some stages they were beaten by Evo X by seconds while on other stages Chris could lead with a good 20-30 seconds off his nearest competitor.

Here's SS01 by the way.

Could be for example that the Proton is using the long gearbox which might not be suited to slower twistier stages so much.

Looking at the clips on the Malaysian Rally website the car sounds quite different now.

Apparently McRae's car was overheating due to grass in front of the radiator:

Aktinson's team-mate McRae sits in third but over 9 minutes behind after engine over-heating problems caused by grass clogging the radiator.

Victory for Proton with Chris Atkinson on home ground. McRae finished 3rd. In FWD classification also Protons in front...

I'm really pleased for Proton. They definitely made a step in performance and reliability here. Looks like both drivers were told to "hold station" on leg 2 and took it pretty easy.

As I think Atkinson pointed out, as well as giving better traction the better dampers transmit less shocks to the rest of the car - which has maybe helped the reliability.

Am I to be believe that the Evo 10 was infact an upgraded R4 spec car ..... please correct me if I'm wrong

May explain the reason of the increased competiveness of Group N car against S2000.

Can anyone confirm whether those are R4 spec cars?

Otherwise this would be an expected win since the Protons were the only S2000s competing in this event.

No R4 because all were entered in class 3. Only Protons in class 2.
