The Australian outfit was established in 2004, as owners Roland Dane, Ian Harrison, Peter Butterly and Derek Warwick sought out a greater challenge to accompany their various successes in the highly-competitive British Touring Car Championship

Triple Eight will be using Vectras with NGTC Engines this year. It'll be interesting to see how they stack up against Pirtek Racing who already have a year of experience under their belts and two Vectra Chassis that have been tuned for the turbo engine compared with 888's knowledge of the Vectra but not the engine...

Also, reading their track history makes you realise just what an impressive record they have in the BTCC. BRING BACK VXRACING!!!

Who took over running the BTCC side of the operation once Roland Dane moved to Australia to set up the V8 Supercar team?

Not sure if its relevant to your research or not, but before Triple 8 entered V8 Supercars by buying out Briggs Motorsport, they had an aborted attempted to enter the series a year earlier when they bidded to buy the Holden Racing Team after the TWR collapse.

Holden where keen to sell the team to Triple 8, but HSV who originally set up the Holden Racing Team, and was protected from the TWR collapse by a forward thinking Holden who demanded independance from TWR for HSV, stepped in and argued the team should be owned by a new company, Holden Motorsport, a wholy owned subsidury of Holden, with the racing license sold to a proxy (Mark Skaife). Basically it was a clever way for Holden to own their own team without contradicting the rule that a manufacturer can't own a V8 Supercar team.

This all pissed Roland Dane off so when he did enter V8's by buying Briggs Motorsport, he refused to change it to a Holden team despite Triple 8's GM links (via Vauxhall) untill many years later when Ford pulled their funding for the team and Roland had a sudden change of heart that he actually loved Holden all along.....

This could explain Why Roland Dane wants to beat HRT so bad now his team is also holden. Also looking at the record the above happened maybe they should have sold to triple8.
Since 2003
Drivers Championships HRT - 0 888 - 2 plus runner up 4times(06 craig lowndes was robbed lol)
Bathurst HRT - 2 888 - 4

Ex-Williams F1 and Touring Car Engineering BTCC team manager Ian Harrison. He is another of the founders. There was a really good article in Autosport magazine a few years back, with a family tree layout of how the team came about from all the different people. If I find it, I'll scan the article.

With the departure of the V8 Supercar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V8_Supercar) franchises, owned by John Kelly and Margaret Kelly and used to operate the team, to their own new team (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Racing) in 2009, the HSV Dealer Team was effectively disbanded at the end of 2008, to be reformed in 2009 as Walkinshaw Racing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walkinshaw_Racing). NOT REALLY SAME TEAM

HSV Dealer Team was one of the premier motorsport teams contesting the V8 Supercar Championship Series. The team ceased operations at the end of 2008. Walkinshaw Racing and Kelly Racing were created by owners and staff of the former team.
NOT REALLY SAME TEAM ? was this not about 888 buying a holden team when walkinshaw went bankrupt
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSV_Dealer_Team

The team as it is known today came about from a collaboration between K-mart and Holden before the 2001 season, resulting in the two-car K-mart Racing Team. This was as the result of a TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) initiative to run two level one teams from one facility with much help of Greg Murphy and Jeff Grech. Under K-Mart sponsorship the team won the 2003 and 2004 Bathurst 1000 races with Greg Murphy and Rick Kelly at the wheel.

K-mart sponsorship ended at the conclusion of the 2004 season, resulting in the team becoming known as the HSV Dealer Team in 2005. The Toll Holdings Group became the title sponsor of the team for the 2006 season alongside with HSV.

The 2006 season was the most successful in the team's history at the time, with Rick Kelly winning the drivers championship, and the team winning the team championship, courtesy of a strong combined points haul from Rick Kelly and Garth Tander. Prior to this, the team had taken two wins at the Bathurst 1000, courtesy of Rick Kelly and Greg Murphy.

The 2007 season was another successful year with Garth Tander winning the championship in a thrilling final round, the team winning the Teams Championship, and Holden winning the Constructors Championship.

2008 saw Toll shift some of their sponsorship emphasis from HSVDT to the Holden Racing Team, continuing their relationship with the departing Garth Tander. This left a seat at the team which was later filled by Paul Dumbrell in the Autobarn car.[1]

Franchise owner John Kelly announced late in 2008 that he would be taking his franchises away from an association with Walkinshaw Performance and be establishing a new team, forming a technical partnership with Perkins Motorsport to establish Kelly Racing for which his sons Todd and Rick would drive for.
