Bence Magyar
18th February 2011, 09:22
As far as I know nothing is fixed yet but I suppose it is going to be pretty much similar to the previous editions. This means fast and bumby tarmac stages in the Mecsek with not much room for mistakes. The trees by the road are punishing hard even if there is only a slight mistake. I expect a few high speed crashes from both the internationals and the Hungarians. The battle is going to be very interesting though.

The rally will be in september so it's too early to know the details but I'll be here in the future and try to inform you if there is any new information available. There is usually a massive crowd on the stages, the beer is cheap, the atmosphere is faboulus, the girls are pretty and "nothardtoget", and the countryside is also spectacular, so it's a good package for a nice weekend in Hungary!

Bence Magyar
19th February 2011, 05:12
The season opener (Eger Rally) will be in april and there's gonna be six or seven rounds in 2010. The field is going to be 3-4 S2000 cars (maybe 1-2 more), a shipload of Mitsubishi Evos and few R3 and R2 cars plus many various cars. I recently read an article about a guy who is building a Mitsubishi Evo X R4 for a customer driver and the car will be availible for rent. The financial crisis still in the country therefore very hard to find the budget for everybody but it's the same everywhere I guess...

wwbroe

Don't worry for Hanninen, he will normally do last three events San Remo, Scotland and Cyprus. With three victory's allready behind his belt, it will be very difficult to beat him, knowing also that last two event's are on gravel and mixed surface.
mousti
30th August 2011, 17:42
I knew that for sure with the double. But now that Kopecky comes pretty close to leadership, maybe he'll find a new breath and all attack :D . Plus Cyprus are very rough roads where u can easily get flat tyres plus Super 2000 are a bit fragile on that surface. Breaking suspension. But yes even with that Hanninen will probably retain his title.

Hungary is quite a difficult one to call as it is a new event. Loix and Kopecky seem on top form at the moment but Mikkelsen showed real pace on Barum and it's about time Wilks won too. Then we have Neuville and Bouffier too. Predictions?

I think that main reason is that Juho or Skoda neither do not have billions of spare euros to spend to all events that take place in Europe. Less than two weeks later he has French WRC event already and maybe he goes to Australia for recce? And title for Skoda and title to one of their drivers is pretty sure in IRC already. At least Skoda bosses are more reasonable than some guys in WRC and they do not fight with the whole army against weaker opposition.

I wonder what can Asi do (hopefully with legal car)? I remember first IRC in Barum when local knowledge played much bigger role than now when most of regulars know the stages. In 2007 Kresta with Gr.N and 32 mm restrictor was able to win several stages, now it's completely impossible...

I have a feeling that Asi will bring a surprise . He is an excellent class of driver , with local advantage for Hungarians the difference between his R4 and S2000 won't be as large ( as Mirek said , first time for IRC runners ) . Also he has a large fan base so I'm sure he will be very motivated . I also expect much from Robert Butor , with Herczig and Toth also close .

I would quite disagree. Of course, there is a difference between works and other cars but it's not all. In SWRC Germany he drove on bullet proof Pirelli tyres with universal thread for dry or wet. Driving on these tyres was quite different and his flamboyant style suited it. I don't think it's just a bad luck when You pick five or six punctures in one rally (Yalta). There he was able to win shakedown (I think) but on stages it was puncture by puncture and he had to change his style. Here in Barum he was slower than 18-years old Karl Kruuda with exactly same car from same team (from same team PG was in last year).
Anyway, did he have worse car than Toni Gardemesiter who was moreover on Hankook tyres and had troubles with clutch? I doubt so...

There isn't a Swedish top driver for years.
i think andersson is very good. he just (almost) never had top material to show what he can do in the past years. but with what he had, he always squeezed out the best of it. suzuki wrc(was often faster then mutch more experienced gardemeister), skoda fabia wrc(norway 2009 he set some fastest times with that old car, then retired with clutch problem), fabia s2000(win in sweden, 2nd in finland, 3rd in germany after some bad luck, was leading till day 3, then his team ran out of money) focus wrc from stobart, proton satria and at this year´s start of the season fiesta wrc. last one he also showed some real good times with, especially when you look what others do and did with the private fords this year.

Can you say me a rally with a very good result for Andersson then, without an accident or a big mistake? In the last car he only showed more mistakes then fast times and he was clearly beaten by Řstberg.
darkstar
10th September 2011, 10:24
thats not true, he had some mistakes and offs yes, but he also didnt have mutch driving routine last years. and shure he was slower in sweden then östberg, but he also didnt have no test´s and no experience with the car, while östberg had. and östberg also did some rallye´s with fiesta s2000 on snow before witch should have prepared him quite well. after that östberg just didnt show nothing anymore, he´s one of the most overrated drivers ever in my opinion. andersson meanwhile again set some very fast times at sardinia, almost always top 5(when he reached finish of the stage ;) ) sometimes 2nd fastest times etc. and always faster then östberg and novikov. again with no test before the rallye.
sometimes its good to read a bit between the lines...
i dont want to say andersson is the best driver available, but he is shurely very, very fast. i think with a top spec car and some testing he could be a winner! if i was vw i also would give him a test drive in a skoda s2000. he has the speed, he only has a lack of consistency. but i think that´s something witch disappears if you drive more rallyes and have more tests. alsmost every top driver had lots of crashes before he became consistent.
Wim_Impreza
10th September 2011, 10:35
In my opinion Andersson is one of the most overrated drivers ever. Yes, he can set fast times, but the only thing what really count to teambosses and most people are the final results. His fast times in Sardinia came when he made another mistake...
You can't compare a +30 year old driver like Andersson with such young drivers like Řstberg and Novikov, especially because they don't have much experience worldwide yet. Andersson has again problems and is still a crash driver at 31 years.

but come on, östberg is around for years now(driving a wrc since 2004) and there´s almost no good result of him at all. who´s really impressing is mikkelsen now, to get back to topic, setting another fastest time in hungary ;) he´s really someone who has improved a lot in the past. Only just got in to see the results, and I'm still a bit confused. At IRC results it says Andreas is 0.7s in the lead from Loix, while at liverally.hu it says he's 14.4s ahead of Neuville. Which one is right?
Either way I'm delighted to see him show his true potential and hopefully, hopefully get his first win.

Mikkelseen seems to have picked up where he left on Barum sunday. Very impressive pace so far, he would deserve the win. After Hänninen he seems to be the second Nordic driver who have learned to drive on tarmac in IRC rounds, something which wouldn't have happened had he continued paying various WRC rounds. If Mikkelsen wins this he is not out of the title competition just yet.

Mikkelsen said that he became faster on asphalt thanks to lessons in FIA Drivers Academy (not the same thing as WRC Academy).

True, but IRC with mostly tarmac rounds must have a role too. Same as Hänninen says he learned tarmac pace on Skoda tests.

I tend to agree. I was just making the point that it is hard for even very talented drivers like Andreas to come in and be at the front of IRC straight away. Somebody else made the point that Bouffier's speed had been disappointing after Monte.

Oh yeah I agreed with your point entirely. Andreas is probably the biggest talent in the IRC, but in his first year in the Fabia and first year of full, proper competition he hasn't fulfilled his potential in terms of results. At least the pace is there - as everyone always says, you can teach reliablity but you can't teach speed.
I think Andreas is the fastest gravel driver except Juho, so if Juho misses either of those rounds I'd expect Andreas to win...bar another stupid mistake!

I kind of presumed Gassner had got that Red Bull drive from his dad being buddies with Baumschlager but maybe I was wrong.

In all seriousness, that may be the case at the moment - it's impossible to judge their respective pace as they haven't been in the same machinery. The only recent comparison was at Rally GB last year where Andreas finished 6:30 behind Wilson in an S2000 (his Fabia debut). But to be honest I don't know what to make of that!!
wwbroe
11th September 2011, 15:10
I think 4th would be asked to much for Matt, i guess he would be fighting with Gardemeister or Sandell. Real pitty for Andreas, he seemed to be well on his way to first victory in IRC, but flowers are only given at the podium. Wonder if Neuville will try to attack Kopecky on this last stage.
Hartusvuori

Well, i guess that tree was not put there overnight, so it was laying there also in recce.
Gardemeister commented also before the rally for MTV3.fi that some of the logs and tyres were placed there by organizer for anti-cutting, and that during the recce they were only marked on the roadbook, not placed yet. That seems odd.
And really a shame for Andreas. I'd like to see him succeed for once.

In Belgium it's 20 minutes and then even then the crew has to decide if they want a zero car over the stage or not. Mostly they just start again, on Tielt this year though Chevaillier asked for a zero car couldn't happen so SS cancelled.
Mmm so Jan finally found his strive to win back and could finish the deal and win the championship, very interesting.

3 days of fantastic rallying have finished :) On SS 2 where I was standing 5 cars crashed in the same place ( Clio R3 of László Hozmann even caught fire ) , you will see it in a video . The rest of the places I picked really fast parts . Neuville , Mikkelsen and Kopecky were flat out everywhere so I wasn't surprised when I saw the results :) I just wished Neuville won , he is a VERY flamboyant and spectacular driver . However , it seems some drivers aren't as thrilled with the rally as I am . In service , Kopecky said he's glad the rally is over , because it is ridiculously fast and very dangerous . On the other hand , Neuville loved it . Very different aspects . Looking forward to 2012 IRC Mecsek :)
