The 787 is a blowtorch to one's ears.....I am thinking the shriek of the 70's Matra V12's, or the ripping sound of a BRM H 16 in the 60's would be up there....

A U.S. big-block V-8 trying to navigate through the paddock at little over idle speed.

I think that there have been a few claimants to the best automotive sound but ultimately for me, you don't get the full sounds of an orchestra unless you're playing with at least 12 cylinders.

In 99,9 % of cases I prefer screaming smaller engines than "lazy" large ones but ....

That Matra V12 sounds glorious :)

The D type though was only a 6. One hell of a 6, but I believe they had a straight six in that beast. Jag's didn't go to the v12 until the E type showed up...

An F1 engine at full pelt. V8, V10, V12 doesn't matter!

What, why does anybody need all this sound??? All it does is get people all worked up and make them want to get in a car and try to go fast, and kill them and others off.
Cars need to be restricted to no more than 100 HP, and mufflers to muffle all car engine noise, so not to disturb the neighbors and avoid all this overworking of the senses

Some of us enjoy disturbing the neighbours with our cars, it's payback for their pesky dogs that yap yap yap all night ;)

I guess it would be a tie between the various 2.65 liter turbo V8's that CART used (I loved to hear those things bark when they'd downshift!) and any one of the Ferrari V12 F1 engines.

Bit different to my usual picks, but alongside the Judd V8 would be a Pro Mod supercharged Hemi, the 1995 Ferrari V12 in F1 and also the SuperTouring BMW 320i.

:D Yup, I'm a Scoobie man through and through, and that is partly where my username comes from

I love the sound that my Scoobies make when I push them!

NASCAR from the early-mid 90s. Deep rolling thunder reverating off the high banks of a superspeedway. They don't sound like they used to because advanced exhaust acoustics.

BMW M1. Never knew much them before but I've become hooked since the revival a couple of years ago.

How did you embed the videos on here? I tried and it just came up with a load of garbage.

A properly tuned BMW 6 cylinder sounds pretty good too

Wedge, the NASCAR engines sound different now mainly because they are turning an extra 1500 rpm over what they used to. The motors now are pushing 9200 rpm and back in those days (93 Summer race at Talladega) they would be turning shy of 8000 rpm, probably in and around 7800.

My bad but that is one hell of a motor! Wow...
That was the one I was thinking of though...BRM had a few that were wild sounding...
