View Full Version : What's your plans for 2011?

As usual around this time of year a lot of people start to think about what they will get up to and where they will go in the year ahead (whether competing, marshalling, organising, spectating etc) and I am always curious to hear about where everyone is thinking of going! :)

I am going to have quite a quiet year. Sweden has been booked for quite a long time already, and I am 99% sure of going to the East African Classic Safari Rally in November, and there is an even chance that I will also go to the African Rally Championship round in Kenya in June, after having such a great time there in 2010. Also probably the whole of the Scottish Rally Championship. After going to 6/7 foreign events in each of the last few years it is a lot less but I need to save some money...... I guess we'll see how well I do as I usually crumble in the face of temptation! ;)

What are your plans?

I am going to concentrate on IRC again next year, starting with Monte Carlo. I think also Corsica will be for sure, just like Ypres ofcourse and Barum. I was also planning to go to Argentina, but it remains to be seen if we will have IRC run over there or not. Rest of the program will depend a lot of program of Loix. :)

I will pay Rally Sweden a visit - if - and it is if - there will be enough good drivers. And I mean Petter, Henning, Kimi and so on must not be absent. Then I´ll stay at home.

Then NORF of course. Can´t miss the best event.

A couple of weeks before I´ll be at swedish Midnattssolsrallyt which makes its rounds around Västerås/Uppsala, eg. near Arlanda, Stockholm.

NORF ofcourse... ;) If the rumours/news about the (amount of) new stages around Lake Päijänne are true, it's going to be atleast a three week rallying project for me, first week doing recce, second week spectating tests and third week being the actual rally week. Got time now because military service is over and therefore no restrictions. :s mokin:

Additionally spectating some national rallies, hopefully atleast one Finnish Championship event, some local rallies and perhaps F-Cup rallies. I'm also trying to get into few rally car rides if possible. Also thinking about getting a licence "just in case"...

I'm trying to get into university and therefore the first half of the year isn't going to be much else than reading reading reading reading... Rally weekends working as great relaxants. :)

Are there many others on here that compete?

I am planning on doing the Targa event here in NZ, which is a 5 day tarmac rally. I have spent 2010 doing gravel rallies but have had a lot of reliability issues, so moving back to tarmac where I seem to fare better!

I hope to become dad this year, so rally is less important now. But maybe Germany and/or France this year.

29th December 2010, 21:27
Germany for sure. France, Spain and Wales are on the wishlist again. Also Acropolis, which i would really like to go to.
Missing Ypres due to a wedding and no other IRC plans.

I will start on Monte Carlo and then I would like to repeat this year´s program, which consisted of eight events here in Czech Republic and one fantastic rally in Belgium - Ypres Rally.
Yes, that would be nice... :)

Going to Sweden again in 2010, was my 1st ever WRC event last year and loved it. Hopefully this year will surpass it. Otherwise I will attend as many of the rounds of our National and International Championships here in Ireland, if I cant get the opportunity to compete. I navigated in my very 1st rally in October (a 2 day International!!!) and hope to build on this experience to improve my differentiaition of left from right.
Will try and get to some of the later WRC rounds to fly the Tricolor for Kris and Paul, as I'm sure they'll do our island proud.

New job could also increase competitve and international spectaing opportunities, but I'll live in hope.
Seems to be a good gang from the forum going to Sweden :)

Very Neat!!! WOuld love to experience the Targa Tasmania sometime. I watched "Love the Beast" just last sunday.

I am hoping to do Pikes Peak this year if I can finish this car. Was signed up last year but my co-driver quit the night we were to leave for the race. I get married 2 weekends later and hope to go to Italy for the honeymoon. Anyone know of any rallies in Italy in mid July to spectate?

NZRC Historic class in my RS2000 plus a few non championship events. A two month long awaited trip to the other hemisphere, current plans include attending WRC Greece and Finland, F1 UK and Germany. Also check out various areas where family members served and/or paid the ultimate price during WW1 and WW2 plus catch up with a load of motorsport mates in the UK. Any spare time will be spent working on the 2012 NZ Silver Fern Rally.

Rally Finland will be definite, must arrange summer holidays asap. This year I managed to do my first rally trip abroad and I'm hoping to repeat that in 2011 as well. First thought that comes to mind is returning to Zlín (and hope for better weather, if that matters) or then see some other IRC or WRC rally in Europe on the second half of the year, IRC Sanremo, IRC Hungary or WRC France. But these options are all open.

In Finland, spectating a handful of natiol events is possible - rallies, rallysprints and rallycross. Even Finnish Rally Championship event comes close to me next year. I've haven't bothered to travel 250+ kms to see those "Evo IX" events on past few years. Hopefully more S2000 cars will enter the series than the two that are signed up now.

It's also nice to read how some forumers travels a lot to see their favourite events around the world. Though I think the dedication is there from many of us, it just also requires some joys of liberties like money, lots of free time, no immediate family obligations and such to travel so much. Or has any of you actually left their job to see a rally, or perhaps divorced even ;-) ?

Competing in the Victorian Rally championship sitting next to Derek Reynolds. Will also be doing Rally South Australia and Rally Australia with Derek.

Derek and I will also be doing the Alpine Rally in his Group 4 Escort.

Will be doing Targa Tasmania with Ray Julian in his potent BMW M3R.

Targa West with Graeme Shaw in his EVO 10 Lancer.

2wd Rally Master series I will be driving in my Charade GTti. Will also be doing some circuit stuff in the Charade.

On top of all this will be organising the ACT Tarmac Sprint Rally series, this is 3 events all around 90km competitive held in the ACT.

Also helping run the ACT Regional Rally Series and on the NSW Rally panel. Plus I'm Club Captain this year as well.

Anyone coming to Rally Oz, we have a special on for rally people at our motel at Dorrigo. PM me for details.

So a busy year for me, hopefully a good one.

Ray

Every year you say you might cut back Ray. Every year you are just as busy.

As for myself, Rally Australia will be the big highlight. Coffs Harbour will be fantastic this year for that. Beyond that, Rally Otago and APRC Rally Whangerei in NZ are most likely and APRC Rally of Queensland.

Will be headed off to China once more late in the year, so hopefully an Asian round would be good too. Will wait and see.

I'll go to Monte Carlo, Ypres and at least ten Czech events including Barum as every year. Probably no more foreign rallies this year. Maybe second leg of Jänner next week too but I'm not sure about that.

WRC rally Sweden and maybe NORF WRC Finland, I also think about going to a IRC Rally Belgium - Ypres. ;)

Just one advice for Ypres. Don't go to T-junctions. Those are boring. But there are tons of high speed corners with deep cuts and those are great :)

Why you hardcore finnish rallyfans are attending "maybe" to main champs rallyes? Could someone explain that phenomenon to me. Definite yes to Gruop F, but only maybe to SM.

F Cup rallies and Historic Rally Trophy events with all their sub-classes have usually 200+ entries which means a lot of action. There's also the no recce factor. Never been to FRC event, so can't really tell are they that boring. Of course the fastest drivers and best cars are there, but usually number of entries remains too low. And in my case, past few seasons many of the events have been far away from where I live, so I haven't bothered.

Well I wouldn't say that Finnish Championship is boring but the amount of N4 Mitsus and Subarus does feel sometimes kinda lame. There's only, I'd say, five to ten top guys in FRC classes (4wd and 2wd) who drive their car spectacularly and with real push as others are learning to drive recce-rallies and/or new powerful cars after a long period with less powered cars and/or RWD cars.

Also the fact that all FRC drivers have learned to drive blind without notes before starting to drive with notes brings all crashes/outs/etc mistakes to nearly zero. From a sporting perspective it's great, but as a spectator you'd like to see more action (e.g wide lines and small offs, not nescessarily huge rolls etc.)

As in F-Cup and other non-FRC rallies which are blind there's loads of action for everyone because there are dozens of competitors ready to fight for the victory or atleast podium places. Trying hard with no notes = I guess you all know the end result. ;) Although in the past few years many have started to critize the amount of heavy accidents and fast rolls because organisers tend to make rallies on roads which are too fast with modern-day equipped Group-F cars.

A special feature in Finnish rally culture is "the corner value" represented in form "X+Y", X being rolls and Y other offs. IIRC, my record is something like 5+7. :D

Distance nothing else, here where i live is a few F-Group rallies only 5-10km a way, to closest Finnish Championship about 60km.

Rally Sweden of course then maybe a couple of WRC rounds more..

Then all swedish championship rounds ( + maybe 15 local rallies in sweden) +
the most of the championship in Norway and of course a couple of trips to Finland to spectating some F-cup rounds..

in 2010 i was attending 25 rallies and over 30 in 2009 so usually around these numbers every year.

Hej Hallman, are du släkt me Torsken Hallman ooops Torsten Hallman from Uppsala? (4 times 250cc World Champion i moto-cross)

Listen, I push Volvo basically like GpH as the target car for rally guys in USA, and have built all kinds of things for them---some of which might be interesting to your driver cuase the stuff is very good and very low cost compared to things där borta.
But it would be really nice if i could try and convince you and your driver to come to America and vistit----at least our lilla snälla rallyforum..
And say Hi! and tell us about life in GruppH.

Its called ''rallyanarchy.com'' and I'm sure you could have some fun and there's a guy I know who does an on line magazine who would lile to do a little interview because we really want to see what club level guys or really any level face for prospects and problems..

Interested? Skicka mig en PM, okej?

My plans are: finish the 2 things in the garage, the roll the Cossie 4x4 in and make the plumbing of fuel cell finished, oil cooler and make run.
Drag out the old Saab and do the Thunderbird Rally in Central British Colombia in Feburary.

If I win Euro Millions lottery big style between now and next weekend I will enter WRC in a two car team with my 17 year old son in a DS3 from Citroen or Fiesta WRC from MSport, and join the other no hope drivers, Van Merkstein and gang in a pay driver championship. I could do British Historic rallying in a Mk2 Escort but I couldn't beat the talent there, I rather fancy my chances against the WRC tourists and gentlemen.

Are you planning a rallying version of the Michelin Guide? :D

My plans are WRC in Germany, IRC at Monte-Carlo and Ypres, the full Belgian Championship, 3 or 4 historic rallies in Belgium, 3 British gravel rallies, 3 Dutch rallies, 2 national German rallies, a French gravel rally, the French rally cup final and some smaller rallies in Belgium. It looks like an expensive year but it's cheaper than it appears as those 35 rallies require only 10 nights in a hotel, the others are within a couple of hours from home, and there's no plane travelling or car hire involved.

Spectating /maybe reporting (historics)
Definitely the Brands Hatch and Goodwood single venue events in Jan / Feb
Maybe Le Touquet in March
Unless I can find 3 others to share a car and villa for Sardinia I'll have to give WRC Italia a miss (was hoping to get there)
Definitely Ypres IRC / Historic and Flanders Historic in September (unless it clashes with Yorkshire or Goodwood revival
Ulster International / Historic (August)
Yorkshire International /Historic (September)
Wales Rally GB
Roger Albert Clark Historic.
