So with the benefit of a few hours rest, the game finishing 7am. Here are some reflections.

The way Barcelona were going in the first half. I feared we were going to see similar games to recent Barca/Manutd finals, where Barca comprehensively played Manutd off the park.

I enjoyed the second half very much. I didn't think Juve would have it in them to respond so well to Barca's dominance.

That last goal in the end annoyed me.

Rollo

I hope that whoever is in charge of buying and selling players at Liverpool looks upon Luis Suárez and realises that if you sell players who can score you goals, you don't score silverware but mid-table mediocrity.

Storm
8th June 2015, 06:55
^correct

You do not sell Suarez and instead get Lambert, Balotelli and Lallana and expect to see 31 goals.

I enjoyed this season totally, had its ups and down (very few, but the game against Sociedad in January was the turning point). Enrique may not be there next season but what an amazing last 4 weeks!

2009 treble was more exciting being the first, but this was very satisfying too. After the world cup and everybody in the team losing one way or other. Best send-off to Xavi (Pirlo should have gotten a better one, but he did win the double!)

Dybala should be a good one, does that mean Tevez is moving to Atletico?

pino
10th June 2015, 06:47
Juve wants Tevez to stay, but it's up to him to decide. Next signing should be goalkeeper Neto from Fiorentina (don't worry Buffon will continue for 3 more years), then we will bring back our young talent defender Rugani (will hear a lot from him in the future), so we should be ready to chase our 5th scudetto on row ! :D

Federartion States of Micronesia have sent a national team for the the first time in about 12 years and got off to a shocking start. They lost 30-0 to Tahiti.

I'm not sure why you think that's the case:

http://qz.com/446439/minimum-wage-for-members-of-the-uss-womens-soccer-team-is-just-6800-a-year/

players in the National Women’s Soccer League can receive as little as $6,842.
...
Instead, professional female footballers depend on sponsorships or second jobs to supplement their annual wages, which are capped at a maximum of $37,800.
- Richard Macauley, Quartz, 7th Jul 2015.

The tale of salaries in women's sport is generally atrocious. Even in a sport mad country like Australia, I can't honestly think of a single sport (except maybe for people who are paid by the AIS) where jugadora take home enough of a salary to be able to even live off of.

So Raheem Stirling gone to City to warm their bench for 49 million pounds. Liverpool absolutely got the better of that deal. Good player, could be a great one, but he has a crap attitude and is being seriously manipulated at his so called manager. Can't delieve Firimo cost 29 million less than what Liverpool got for Stirling, the term laughing all the way to the bank springs to mind

Storm
14th July 2015, 07:04
^definitely, he is nowhere worth near 50m..could have been a great player if he had shown some skills by now that just running fast and scoring a few goals. I did not see any huge progression and he has been poor ever since the contract/transfer saga started; that tells a lot about his mental make-up. He could well blossom at City, but I do not think they will make a profit when they sell him down the line.

Now it seems that Liverpool have triggered Benteke's 'Get Out of Villa' clause and will be signing him. Looking better ans better for this season, plenty of old wood removed and some quality coming in.

Benteke up front with Sturrige when and if he is fit, with Coutinho and Firimo playing behind them and Henderson and Milner in the heart of the mid field, a bit premature to say, but I am getting a good feeling about the coming season. Losing Stirling is not a big loss, as I have said he could be a great player, but his selfish 'I am the centre of the Universe.... my agent says so' attitude will not be missed and the rteam spirit shou;d improve without this garbage

Big Ben
17th July 2015, 15:37
If Sterling is worth 50 million pounds than I must be worth around a million. But I think I'm worth like a kilo of potatoes so I value Sterling at 50 kilos of potatoes. Liverpool made a good deal, Sterling an excellent one and City are the losers of the silly season... but it's not like they throw away hard-worked money anyway.

Now it's interesting what Liverpool does with the money. They already have Baloteli so they should look for that useless Dane Arsenal used to throw money at... Bendtner or something. Is that guy still around? Baloteli and that guy would be the ultimate attack

Does anyone here think that Mourinho is really deranged? I don't mean it as an insult because of his despicable character but as a serious mental condition. I started having this impression after seeing him in an interview the previous season. He was going on about how there's a conspirancy to stop Chelsea from winning the EPL. He really seemed convinced that the FA actually has a very well defined secret agenda against him and therefor his team. He really seemed disturbed. Now the Premier League has just started and after just one match he went nuts again. Chelsea were lucky enough with a draw since both their goals were lucky and Swansea looked like the better team. But he sees everything the complete opposite of what everyone saw. Courtois' red card was wrong, Swansea only played better after Courtois' red card and so he goes on and on. He even picks on his own doctor because she was tricked by Hazard simulating an injury. The guy lookes more and more like a genuine psychopath.

BVB have started really strong this season. I doubt they can keep up but I do hope.

Man Utd won't win anything this year either. I used to like the fact that they were never big spenders (compared with other big clubs) but I guess it's really hard to be competitive without throwing ridiculous amounts of money left and right with the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Barcelona and the worst of all, Real Madrid around. They seem to be bad at it however. It looks like they just stumble upon players and buy them without any plan in mind. They have the midfield clogged up while the attack... well, there's no attack at the moment.

Man Utd's transfer strategy has been a complete shambles since Ed Woodward took control. But the Premier League is just a complete joke in general at the moment.

The team that finishes bottom of the EPL will get more money in TV rights revenues than Bayern Munich will, and almost all the English teams are obsessed with spending this money on expensive average players.

United have bought this 19 year old Frenchman I've never heard of for £30+million and sent their own youth academy star, Adnan Januzaj, out on loan. What is this all about?

They splash out millions of pounds without thinking about it because of the ridiculous money that is in the game. £30million is peanuts to Man Utd. They can waste their money and still expect fans to pay £40 for League Cup tickets against Ipswich Town.

Why do the top clubs even bother with youth academies anymore?

Maybe the problem was that with Pedro they would have had enough midfielders to make a team only of midfielders. Paying 36m for that guy was a bet but they can afford it.

Andy Carroll was not that young and LIverpool didn't have that much cash back then. Other than that it's completely the same.

Actually, while Man Utd are doing an awful job on the transfer market there's some comfort that Liverpool is way worse. They've replaced Torres with Carroll and Suarez with Balotelli :)))))

I prefer the days when we had players like Welbeck and Cleverley. Yes, they were cr&p, but they were our own.

I know no one cares but I'll keep you updated anyway . BVB got to a wonderful start of the season, 5 wins in 5 matches and plenty of goals. Unfortunately so did Bayern and BVB's slide has already began. After 2 draws they're no 4 points behind. I think the Bundesliga is the most lopsided championship of the big ones. You have the big 4 in England where even finishing top 4 is a big breakthrough for the middle table teams. And then in Spain there's Barcelona, Real Madrid and the rest but in Germany Bayern is on its own. Most teams play half assed against them and the only thing they want is not to be humiliated... no wonder Lewandowski scored 5 goals in 9 minutes.

Romania draws against Finland... really embarrassing. Lewandoswski scored 5 in 9 minutes for Bayern , the entire romanian team didn't score a single goal in 430 minutes in the weakest group possible. Unbelievable.....
And bloody hilarious too.
I watch football games since I was 5 yo and witnessed a lot of qualifiers campaignes of our squad. There were dramatic clashes on the last round with strong teams that ended more or less happy. But this time our last match on euro qualifiers is against Faroe Islands and all the press talks about a sort of crucial clash. Come on..... A few years ago The Faroes were called the fishermen team and now we play so poor that we fear them. Our team is a real disgrace and I wouldn't mind if we lose ( although this might mean that Hungary will qualify and you know how much I hate this team ).
Well, it's min.15 and we lead 1-0 and Hungary is lead by Mykonos also with 1-0.

I have a sneeking feeling this deal was all but done at the start of the season. LFC mentioning to Klopp that BR had a month to 6 weeks to prove he was the right choice, if things didn't go well Klopp was in after this international break. It would explain why Klopp was unemployed at the start of the season.

I feel sorry for BR, he IS a good manager and will be successful at the highest level, unfortunately things went pear shaped for him at LFC, always sad when that happens. Wish him all the best for the future, we know his name will appear in the Managers space again soon.

I don't have expectations from them either. I'm quite sure they will be mediocre at best but you are being a little too pessimistic. There will be 24 teams at this Euro, out of 54 I think, so almost half of the teams will have qualified to the finals. The competition for the donkeys of the Euros will be a very tight one. It is enough to look at this group. Northern Ireland won it and didn't set the world alight. Even Hungary might be there.

I agree pino, choosing City or Bayern is the easy way out. He has won a lot of things, but perhaps he should have taken up the challenge of winning with a team like say...Valencia, Liverpool (especially!) or Dortmund (or even Juventus :D ) and tried to make them into powerhouses again. Build a team and he can attract good players - along with at least Barca and Madrid discards - and build his own dynasty. Seems like he is just like Mourinho in this respect now :s just not as obnoxious ;)

Big Ben
5th February 2016, 10:10
I don't like him at all but obnoxious or not, Mourinho won the Champions League with Porto and Inter, hardly the best teams of those days. On the other hand Guardiola coached two of the best teams in the world, yet at Bayern he took a team that won the treble the previous year and didn't really do anything impressive since. I know he won 3 consecutive titles in Germany but the Bundesliga is so lopsided lately that even BVB looks like a feeder club for Bayern.
