The theory is that when Juve play the "A League All Stars" later this month, that Del Piero will play a half each way. It'd be really strange if he ended up drawing the match for both sides.

He is boring. Even though Milan won a title with him, eventually they flopped bigtime. Juve needed a better manager to hack it in the CL this time. Prandelli ?

Interesting Storm.

What is the format? I mean is it a group stage and knock out or is it an actual league?

What does this do to your current top flight football?

Storm
31st July 2014, 18:17
I don't yet know how it is structured but it might be like the IPL thingie with a round robin and then a knockout.
The real top league (I-League) has declined to release the top national players for this ISL...ALso another interesting thing is Atletico Madrid has bought a stake in the Kolkata team and it will be called Atletico de Kolkata :erm:

If they manage to qualify in CL then the owner is determined to sell a few more players of this already thinned team. White-shite 0-3 Liverpool. Good result, and needed after the loss to Man City last weekend.

Shame to see Daniel Agger leave and head home to Brondy, great player and brilliant club man. He could have left several times, but chose to stay. All Liverpool people everywhere wish him all the best at Brondby and would like to say thanks for the good times the club and he shared together.

Rollo is disappointed. 3 could have been 7.
Balotelli had two brilliant headers and fluffed a goal from bang in front and Raheem Sterling lived up to the Arabic meaning of his name which is "merciful" by not scoring after breaking through the Spurs defence. Goal difference might be important and leaving them to go begging isn't useful.

Madness, any idiot (including me) can see that United have a bigger issue at the back. Signing midfield players is largely pointless because the current defence seem intent on playing like schoolboys and booting it upfield.

I think it's good for Hernandez, they only have one true central striker, have 3 major competitions to play, play a fast counter-attacking style that should benefit a poacher like he is. There's really only upside for him in the deal.

As far as United, I think they got the wrong Real Madrid player, Wouldn't Xabi Alonso address their current needs more?

As Alonso had a long part of his career at Liverpool it would be more likely that he would go to Barcelona over Man Utd :p

I'm a little bit sad to see Danny Welbeck go. Man Utd have a long tradition of developing their academy products, so I hope we aren't just going to buy a team of foreign players.

This quite decently sums up all that is wrong with football.

If I ruled the world clubs wouldn't be able to do this.
A few years back the Football Association I was working for/with put forward the following proposal to FIFA.

1. Clubs can only spend up to the equivalent of 1 million pounds per week on players wages. (ave of 40000 per player in a 25 man squad). This would stop the quite sickening amounts some players get paid. i.e. more in a week than most people make in 5 years.

2. Players clubs develop through their own youth systems are exempt from the cap, as long as they stay at the club. i.e a club that has 7 of thier own players in the senior team would still have 1 million to pay the rest of the team. This would ensure players are developed by their clubs, and give a decent career path to young talent.

3. Player brought in from the clubs own nation from lower leagues would be partially inside the salary cap, again giving local players a decent career path into top level football.

Our proposal was more in depth than this (it was 30+ pages long with detailed descriptions of how it would work)

To me a system like this would cure many of the fundamental issues with football. It would control the ego-driven amounts that some players demand. It would encourage the Man City's Chelsea's Real Madrids etc to stop luring any half decent player with a silly number and actually develop their own talent. And it would provide a pathway for local players, who are often better than the over priced garbage the clubs are bringing in.

What would stop a mass exodus of players leaving and going overseas where the money was better?

Even Australian Rules football has a salary cap of $9,630,000 which works over for a squad of 47 (most clubs do not have 47 in their first team) of $204,000 a year per player.

I've played footie in Palau, it was erm... interesting. The national stadium in Koror is actually quite impressive for the size of the country, but the other pitches look like mine fields.

Football as it stands is dictated by 3 or 4 clubs who spend hundreds of millions of dollars to buy success. This is destroying the game. You get over-paid ponces diving on the ground and rolling around as if they have been shot, every time a proper player takes the ball of them, and expect 100k per week for doing it.

I have supported Liverpool my whole life and always will, but in truth I would rather watch games from League 1 or League 2. The football is real and is played as it should be, with no over-inflated egos and pathetic ballet routines, every time a takle is made.

My masters team have played in competitions all over the Pacific, we used to go every two years to a tournament some where or other. Palau, Cook Islands, Fiji, Surfer's Paradise etc.

The main problem was the state of some of the pitches and the heat. Being a goal keeper was a dangerous occupation
