Mini will contest next year's Argentina-Chile Dakar with an All4 Racing developed and run by the Monster Energy X-Raid team.
The car, which has been built in just 90 days, will be driven by Dakar expert Guerlain Chicherit. The project was first discussed in the summer of 2009, when X-Raid team director Sven Quandt began looking at the feasibility of the project.
Quandt then held initial discussions with automotive engineering and manufacturing company Magna Steyr and BMW to see whether the new model was a realistic replacement for the BMW X3 CC - which has earned the Trebur-based team three successive FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rally titles since 2008.

Hopefully not, Peterhansel could do some force.
But rationally spaking, VW teams hasthe best drivers, the best equipment and the best preparation for winning easily once again.

I still hiope Peterhansel talent, and the X3 speed.
I still doubt about ts reliability and the Xraid, while being an excellent team, is still one step down to the VW team.

What to thnk about Gordonīs Humer? it is an amazing car to watch, but this yearhis team is reduced to 10 people, and his support crew, Eliseo salazar is not the best. i am sure Eliseo will try to show speed ad crash too often, Luckily the Hummer is may be the most difficutl car to brake down!

Well, BMW might be real force to recognize. Peterhansel can neutralize much of the car disadvantage with his skill.
Does Sainz have the spirit to repeat his win? He becomes 49 this year! Does Al Attyah have the nerves to keep the rules and not to crash two Dakar races in a row? Well, Devilliers looks to be the toughest competitor for the win (in my eyes). Good warm-up for Monte!

Kris Nissen has some explanation to do before the board of VW, about sexual heresment to an Audi staff woman in Macau last month. Also Juta Kleinschmidt and Tina Turner have big complains about Kris Nissen. If VW is going to a WRC program, it will not be with Nissen I guess.

Wuf van Ginkel -Ginaf, probarly out of the rally. He had an accident on the transit road towards the start. A big piece of steel was lying on the road, he had to avoid it and crashed :(

Everything wrong for Dutch today. Gerard De Rooy is also out with hurt back after a heavy landing. There was a also a big crash of Polish quad rider Rafal Sonik who was one of favorites. Team Mini started bad. Guerlain Chicherit lost almost one hour due to mechanical problems.

No doubt about Sainz spirit. 2 WRC championships and 2 Dakar would be an excellent result before retirement.

The Dakar somehow isnīt the Dakar when its beeing run at the South America.. Its not bad, donīt get me wrong and is much more safe to competitors and for the teams but something is missing. Example for the trucks its extremely bad,as it was even last year due to most of the route beeing like rallying, so quite narrow and pretty guided. Also buggies when africa had a change to fight against the big boys in here,if them manages to get for top10,you should be happy. Also navigation donīt have such a huge meaning but yeah the roads are still cruel and demanding atleast, how in the Dakar the things should be.

What comes to race itself it started pretty much as planned. I think that VW will be very strong again with all cars while BMW beeing the only true challenger. Mini is just at the testing phase kinda but Chicherit is a fast driver. Also often his speed means problems but also stage wins. For Nissanīs and private Mitsubishiīs there shouldnīt be a prob. Such a shame kinda to think what example some old Mitsubishi factory driver could still do with Racing Lancer.. I mean it still could be competitive.

For bikes and trucks, we all know who are the favourites.. Bikes will probably at the end turn between Despres and Coma. At trucks its pretty much Kamaz vs the rest.

Would an Offroad World Rally Championship attract more manufacturers ?

Yeah the Dakar site is a bit messy but as far as its showing the results correctly and in time... Im happy to check it from time to time.

What comes to todays stage looks quite tricky and yeah, Sainz donīt never like to go at first but its not the favourite position of anyone I think. The fact still is that on the last editions of Dakar, there isnīt too many stage winners, who has been the first car at the road. Also what comes to Sainz, his strenght is the speed but he has a few weaknesses compared to a few more experienced Dakar competitors like Peterhansel but its been very cool to see how quickly on these years Sainz has been driving,he has adapted into Dakar.

At Bikes, its going pretty much as planned. Comaīs fall at yesterday looked quite scary and the race remains as very tight with Despres. If one of them doesnīt retire at some point of the event or donīt have to do heavy repairs he race for the win, will probably be tighter than for years.

Looks pretty heavily now that VW will take the cars but the way is still very long,I know. VW has just been a very steady performer and Sainz and Al Attiyah has been doing awesome work. Also the rest of VW drivers isnīt that far from the top. BMWīs only card seems to be Peterhansel pretty much and by the way the rally has wenīt so far for BMWīs, its hard to believe that he would take this at the end.

At bikes, it is just getting more tighter and it looks like if the Chilean at his Aprilia keeps up the pace like he has been at the last days, we probably have a 3rd rider as well, fighting seriously for the victory. Despres has been steady and so has been Coma and its been amazing to watch the checkpoint how close these guys have been switching places from checkpoint to checkpoint. Still hope that Despres wins, I will be seriously his fan for the rest of the event.

At bikes Coma increased the lead and it looked like he was just following what Despres is doing.. quite a smart strategy of course and kinda a winners choice. Coma is doing what needed.

at cars, Nasser leads now. by tracking it looked like that VW boys were driving together but then suddenly something happened to Sainz and by the end of the stage,he lost a lot of time. When I have finished this,Iīm pretty sure that the reason is out too. Still VW looks very strong and for Peterhansel there isnīt a way to return to win fight anymore, except by pure luck.

Trucks goes as them have been pretty much the whole time. Not much to say for those.

Thanks for the photos PuroMotor, them are very nice and hopefully its been very nice to follow the rally.

ps. as an off and as it comes a bit late too,Schlesser taken the Africa Race. By competition, its not as tough as all top 4wd cars are missing and most of the cars are buggies, but as an event.. its run in Africa and has more the Dakar spirit somehow.
