INDIANAPOLIS - Following Chevrolet Alfa Romeo is planning to return from 2012 as an engine supplier in the IndyCar Series. FIAT, the owner of Alfa Romeo would be possible if an agreement was concluded with a familiar partner for engine development.
According to Racing Italia FIAT specialist Cosworth engines, currently best known for the Formula 1 engines, attracting an Alfa Romeo engine development for 2012. Then the new IndyCar Regulations in force.
In the 80s of last century Alfa Romeo tried even to get a foothold in the United States. A great success which did not. In 1991 the plug was also pulled from the project.
OK, what will be Anthony's complaint?

Translation from that site:
On the sidelines of a press conference on his return to IndyCar for Chevrolet, which will also build a bodykit for the new Dallara, the rumors are back on the possible entry of the Fiat group in the series. The last, still talking about rumors of a possible agreement Fiat-Cosworth, to develop a unit of Alfa Romeo. The house of the snake is just waiting to debut in 2012 in U.S. showrooms.

With apologies to Carroll Shelby! I am guardedly optimistic about the cars. Hopefully that may lead to interest, viewers, PAID Drivers....but only time will reveal the fruits of these known and rumored dealings....

Agreed with all of the above, and the optimum platform you suggested years ago has indeed been selected.
Big surprise to me that the money for bepoke engines would appear, but a lot happens behind the curtain with this series. I'm anxious to see what shows up on the grid too.

This will be interesting if it happens. I like the Alfa Brera and it would be nice to see Alfa making a splash in racing again.

I don't know the details but how did MG end up being announced as a Champ Car supplier when nothing ended up happening? I hope this doesn't happen to Alfa Romeo but at the same time does Alfa even have relevance in the US and A?

The the highlights of the MG Announcement follows (http://www.speedcenter.com/news02/sc_n0413_02.html), who the heck knows but I won't be waiting for the Alfa announcement with bated breath,
LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 13, 2002) - Officials from MG Rover and Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. (NYSE: MPH) announced today a new engine supplier relationship for the CART FedEx Championship Series for 2003 and beyond. The announcement will bring the famous MG brand and its winning motor racing heritage to American open-wheel Champ Car racing for the first time in the marque's rich history.
"The incredible commitment that MG Rover has made to CART is one of the single most positive developments I have seen since I joined the organization fewer than four months ago," said CART President and CEO Christopher R. Pook. "It is no secret that we have been openly courting several automobile manufacturers around the globe, but to have a storied marque such as MG be the first to officially join our series is great news. As a native Englishman, I am honored to have one of Great Britain's premier brands join CART. As CART's President, I am grateful that MG Rover has seen fit to bolster its marketing initiatives through our series, and I am confident we will not let them down."
After a recent rebirth with new designs and technology, MG is making a serious effort to promote its performance cars. To establish the marque as a performance leader, MG has renewed itself on the motorsports scene. The manufacturer recently stepped up its efforts in three categories (British Touring Cars (ZS), World Rally (ZR) and FIA Sportscars (Lola EX257/MG) to prove its legitimacy as a leader in automobile performance and technology. They are coining their new performance sub-brand as XPower, which they feel will bind together and symbolize all of MG Sport and Racing's activities. Today's CART announcement is the latest development in MG's high performance initiatives.

Sorry to disappoint ya.
I am a Big time Alfisti.
FIAT is a private company so I have no problem with any possible decision regarding the supply of engines to the ICS.

I am hoping like hell Alfa is coming. I love any sport that has an active participation from Italian manufacturers...lol
They make life interesting, and they usually bring pretty grid girls! Just kidding...but I think it is a great thing if we end up with 3 motor choices.
Tell me how big a story it could be in Italy if an Alfa Powered car wins the Indy 500? Right now, who in Italy is really paying attention to Indycars now? Alfa being involved will change things....

Fiat is a private company. If Obama and the Unions want to give them Chrysler for nothing then I cannot blame Fiat.
I do have an issue with the Government giving MY MONEY AWAY.
