I have been wondering about one thing for a long time and would like a clarification. That is - if a constructor changes engine manufacturer during the season, are their points for WCC counted separately?

Example:
http://www.formula1.com/results/team/1982/

7. Brabham-BMW 22 pts
9. Brabham-Ford 19 pts
No-one has 41 points.

Really? *clicks link*

Never even noticed that before.

So to bring it up to date, you are asking if last season, Brawn had started the first two GP's with borrowed Honda's and then switched to Merc's would Brawn have had two separate entries in the WCC table?

Anyone?

I'm pretty sure with the new engine rules your no longer allowed to switch engine suppliers mid season.

But its an interesting point, however I do think its right that if you switch the engines, you have technically switched manufacturers. In F1 the manufacturer has always been the chassis constructor and the engine constructor, eg Williams is listed as a "Williams Cosworth" and Red Bull is listed as a "Red Bull Renault". It goes without saying that if you change the engine, you have changed the constructor of the car, therefore seperate points.

Its not the same as if you introduce an all new chassis mid season, because the chassis is still produced by the same supplier

For the 1982 season (http://www.motorsportforums.com/en/1982_Formula_One_season) the team designed a new car, the BT50, around the BMW engine which, like the Repco engine sixteen years previously, was based on a road car engine block, the BMW M10 (http://www.motorsportforums.com/en/BMW_M10). Brabham continued to run the Cosworth-powered BT49D in the early part of the season while reliability and driveability issues with the BMW units were resolved. The relationship came close to ending, with the German manufacturer insisting that Brabham use their engine. The turbo car took its first win at the Canadian Grand Prix (http://www.motorsportforums.com/en/1982_Canadian_Grand_Prix). In the constructors championship, the team finished fifth, the drivers Riccardo Patrese (http://www.motorsportforums.com/en/Riccardo_Patrese), who scored the last win of the Brabham-Ford combination in the Monaco Grand Prix (http://www.motorsportforums.com/en/1982_Monaco_Grand_Prix), 10th and World Champion Piquet a mere 11th in the drivers championship.
