hey, stage on

JAM
25th March 2011, 14:28
you are right in everything you wrote.I just wrote all these cause some mates said that minis pace is ok.
If David came to portugal to see minis first rally and is ok to be even at first rally at s2000 car pace,i am really worrying about their targets

If i'm right, then i don't understand why Mini's pace is not ok.

But anyway is a lost of time being here discussing this forever. Let's follow the rally.

you are right about mini limited test time. That it is 2sec/km slower(as 2000car) is a fact that it doesn t need to discuss more.
if we see any improovement through Portugal we are here to discuss again.

16:41 Loeb - "Ford are very dangerous here..."
Sebastien Loeb shows the Citroen tactics by slowing right down before the finish of SS7, with a time of 13m39.2s he was intentionally 5.7s behind Mikko Hirvonen. When asked about the tactics he said "It's ok I was going very fast today but i couldn't make any gap on (Hirvonen) today so I thought i'd stay behind.... I think Ford are very dangerous here they are going very fast."

It´s getting too stupid this waiting game. The rally doesn´t really start before Sunday with the regulations. Bring back the rule where drivers could pick their starting position after the first and second day, as in 2001.

As i predicted before, Ogier is in control of the game and will be controlli,ng tomorrow as he is the last one of the four top-runners. I am surprised that everybody is so exited about the tactics, it is happening since many years in WRC. If you don't like it you have to follow IRC, there is not tactics, only if Quesnel is there, like in Monte.

faster first pass at Felizes was Ogier at 13,25
at Felizes2 faster was Latvala at 13,27.Seems that even Ford drivers waiting for Citroens tactics take this ss easy. All previous ss at second run were all faster from 8-13 sec.So Latvala and Mikko slow down too.

16:48 Clear tactic from the Citroen team
Sebastien Ogier also slowed drastically before the end of the SS7, ensuring that they don't have to start at the front in Day 2. Ogier finished in 13m45.6s a massive 18.5s behind Latvala, meaning that overall he has dropped from rally leader to fourth overall. When asked about the slowing tactics he said "You need a big gap if you want to stay in the lead and it wasn't going to happen today."

He stopped before the end of the stage, so he will restart under superrally and will be loosing 10 minutes. If he passes the finishline, he will get his time of the stage (loosing 9 mins) and another 10 mins for superrally, so smart move after all his problems.

awake27
25th March 2011, 17:05
Probably Petter stopped to use superally as he will lose only 5 minutes instead of 8:54.6 he was on the last split.

As for the tactics, it has been since 2008... and they only responsible for this is FIA and the persons who listen to. Not Loeb-Hirvonen-Ogier etc...

OldF

Yes you're right, this is a brilliant idea. At the end of the day, they should draw a stage and make the start order depending on results of that stage.

Well, When I was looking the splits this morning and saw that Petter had such a good splits then I was immediately worries that he is going to push too much, hits some rocks and get punctures. just approximately 10 minutes later it happened! and later he had to push even more to get the loosed time back and what happened? three more punctures. The fact is that the roads are a bit rough and you should drive very sensibly. So, what can we expect for tomorrow. I must say that it was very brave decision by Ogier. nearly 20 seconds behind the lead and there is Latvala in front of him who tends to crab a lot of rocks on the road due to his nice driving style :-) Brave, brave..I must mention! Looking the current weather data.. it looks that there is a small risk of rain overnight as well.

What happened to Y.Lemes on the penultimate stage?

You have short memory my boy! Last year Ogier won and he was first on the road on day 2 and day 3. So, everything is possible in Portugal. One factor is that first cars have less rough roads than the cars that come behind. You can see how many punctures one Norwegian guy collected today while trying to push more..was it 4 punctures in 6 stages?

The organiser should pick a random stage where none of the top drivers didn’t have any trouble and that would be the start order for the next day.

Brilliant idea - or, perhaps the first stage of each day. No telling how things will play out so impossible to drop time strategically.

It rained a little in the morning at 7 (three hours ago) but it is windy and temperature right now is +13 degrees. Will be nearly +20 in midday. But today it should be more cloudy. But no more rain is visible right now.
However, the amount of rain was less than 0.5mm, so it does not help even with the dust. Might make the conditions harder for the first drivers instead.

Mikko Hirvonen has suffered a puncture but instead of carrying on he changed the tire on the stage is currently back on the stage, as a result he was 1m49.8s behind Latvala on the third split. As well as this Sebastien Loeb has lost 15.7s on the same split.

You should have stopped this forum some years ago allready then, tactics is something we see for many years now, and after all it was Ford who made it enter in the championship after all. Seems the win is between Ogier and Latvala with Loeb outsider. A lot will depend on the 2nd pass, if Ogier will pull a gap or Latvala will stay close thus provoking another dilemma for tactics. Loeb will have to close the gap to have a chance though most probably will be as fast as Ogier so only 2nd place. Tomorrow just 104km in compare to the first 2 days and the last 31km is the power stage in reverse order so is the best day to protect your lead if you are first.

As for the part Mikko played, unfortunately is a grey hole and depends on sportmanship between the drivers and teams(and the majority in the past did the fair play). If it was only the last 2-3 km I will excuse him but he impeded the race of a fellow competitor for almost 2/3 of 25km-stage rejoining just 8 secs ahead. Very bad.

Conditions were rough and he said that going faster with such a car is not the way to reach till the end.
