Jarek,

you said Neubauer lacks talent. For me without talent it´s impossible to challenge a 14 time champion in an fully works supported latest spec Polo, with an 5 year old Fiesta, until the very last stage of the season (where a driveshaft brake). Please note also that it was the second technical issue for Neubauer (in Schneebergland he had engine failure, 0 Points), Baumschlager had not a single technical Problem.

At the end the best Team won, but just saying...

Baumschlager had also technical problems this season, in Rallye Weiz he had no rear brakes for the last two stages.

Also without Neubauers problem on last stage I am quite sure Baumschlager would have won (with a smaller margin), as he was very dominant on all stages during the rally on this final section.

Adler, I respect your opinion, but come on... how difficult is it to defeat a 60-year old Baumschlager? And let's not forget that Mundl wasn't drivng VW Polo WRC in all rounds...

true, but Bamschlager was over 20 seconds behind when that happened on penultimate stage, so it didn´t affect the championship like Neubauers engine failure.
About the driveshaft Problem in Waldviertel you might be right, even Neubauer admitted that it wouldn´t have been enough most likely without this issue...of course he was a bit pissed because he lost the championship on this rallycrosstrack, where they had to drive 6 times in total...

well, it´s hard enough for all the others, still we talk about national championship, i know austrian championship is not the strongest and Neubauer for sure is not a world class driver, but for me he made good rogress in the last 2 seasons and is the fastest driver in Austria at the moment. Edit: besides Andreas Aigner.

I have deep respect for Baumschlagers efforts though.

Jarek, Mundl won the championship. True. Congratulations.
But, for me the real hero is still Neubauer. Neubauer was competing with ''museum'' technology against last year's world champion car!!
And Mundl did not convincingly won the championship, but barely.....
At the end I was also pleasantly surprised over Mayer-Melnhof pace, as he was on few ocasions even faster than Mundl or Neubauer......he is showing progress.

That's true, but Mundl himself isn't "latest spec" driver, Neubauer is good, but Mundl is something extraordinary, by having very good pace at his age, and also still have desire to compete.

NO Jarek! your comment was disrespectfull, if you rate Hermann Neubauer as an untalented driver, especially after this season than you are still diqualified with this opinion...nothing changed!

It exactly means that, while Neubauer obviously IS talented, and this year ALMOST did impossible, and was so close to living legend; maybe he isn't World class driver, but c'mon - only own WRC car isn't enough to drive fast, it need talent, and Neubauer was fast all season long.

I have to disagree here. Just an example: When you say Dani Sordo lacks talent compared to Sébastien Ogier that doesn't mean that Sordo is untalented. He is just not as talented as Ogier. Is that really disrespectful? I don't think so...

You have the point, it's more about wordplay in this case, so maybe there is native English speaking guys, who could sort this out?

I´m no native speaker, but the question which occurs here is if "lack" means "missing" (this would mean no talent at all) or just "less than others" (the example of Ogier and Sordo).

But back to topic: Hermann Neubauer is probably not the next World Champion, but the has achieved a lot against Mundl Baumschlager. That´s for sure.

First news about Jänner Rallye 2018:
http://www.rallye-oem.at/sites/orm_jaenner_rallye_2018_fixiert.html

The time table will be quite the same like 2015. They skipped the super fast Pregarten stage and had to change the Liebenau stage for enviromental reasons.
The chief of the organisation Robert Zitta said, that he received already 8 entries although the regulations have not been published yet. There should been already entries from italian, czech and slovakian drivers.

First win for a N5 in Spain's tarmac at Rallye Comunidad de Madrid, the season last event. Gorka Antxustegi in the Suzuki Swift R+ (it’d be easier if they simply call it N5) built by ARVidal, dominated the rally since SS1, profiting from Ares initial problems and Garcia absence. Pelaez (Fiesta R5) came in second and Ares managed to recover from P10 to P3, by wining most of the stages. Fuster, on the N5 RMC Clio, was always a bit behind, finishing sixth.

Is there a website with info/results/news about the Indonesian rally and rallysprint championships? It's one of the most difficult national championships to gather info about...

There are many:
racing4.net
fastnlow.net
sportku.com
etc.

The problem is, most of them (i wanna said that it's all of them) are sponsored by one instance/team/sponsor, so the news are biased.

However, if you are looking for the results table, racing4.net is the best about that, but they are pretty late.

The other problem is there are no press release, not even official social media, and just one of many problems..

That's why i started a social media platform named Indonesian Rally Fan-base (you can find us on FB, twitter and Instagram), give information to the public, I even count the classification/standings all by myself

Indonesian Rally Championship (Sometimes people at here label that as Indonesian Speed Rally C'ship, but i avoid that word), wasn't held in 2016 because IMI (Indonesian Motorsport Association) doesn't have any spirit to held that, fortunately the championship are restarted on this year.

About champions list, it's completely blank, so that's my task for christmas holiday.

Btw, the point scoring system at Indonesian Championship (both Rally & Sprint Rally) are unique, having just been implemented in 2017.

So the point scheme are changed from current FIA spec to old Top-6 FIA spec (10-6-4-3-2-1), but with 1 point/SS the crews completed.

For example, if someone wins on 4 SS sprint rally, he will get 14 points.

And, if someone didn't start the stage, the point will be not counted for each stage they didn't start

I do have a partial list of Indonesian national rally champions, I can write it to you if you want, could be a base to create a proper list. There are good chances there are some mistakes in it, as the sources were many, but someone who speaks Indonesian for sure can double check and write a proper list more easily.

That's big disappointment to be honest.

WHY???

there are NO foreign driver, yes...but who is responsible for that? Nobody!

there is no Baumschlager and no Neubauer....YES...both decided to go to "pause" modus, both will be back during the year ;)

BUT it is a "normal" austrian championship round, it is an very expensive Rallye

BUT there is the same ammount of entry´s like in last glory ERC year (2015)

BUT after a year like 2017 it was clear that 2018 will be a step back for ÖRM in 2018

BUT one thing is for sure, ÖRM is completly unpredictable...compared to Cz Championship ...the champion 2018 is already known since 2 weeks ;)

IF there wil be snow (and it looks ok at the moment) Jänner Rallye will be a great race to watch as always, i am looking forward :)

The amount of cars is ok, but the quality is indeed very poor. Some foreign R5 drivers was sure to expect, thats quite dissapointing.

Although a nice winter scenario could still make a spectacular rally, but at the moment it doesnt look like that - a pitty.

Neubauer said after Rally Waldviertel, that he doesn´t go for Austrian title anymore and plans to do some international events - basically the same as Baumschlager. Neubauer´s Fiesta WRC is for sale.
Grössing starts with his Evo IX - which could have been a good decision in regard of costs (215 km of special stages!), if there would be snow covered roads, but it doesn´t look like this for now.

So maybe 2018 could mark the beginning of the end of WRC cars in Austria - even if they´re still allowed. I think Baumschlager will take another try in 2019 when Polo R5 is homologated.

EDIT: Fiesta WRC of Neubauer is obviously sold: https://www.rallye-magazin.de/int/artikel/d/2017/12/28/oerm-ohne-hermann-neubauer/

Adding to previous electroliquid post - closest Gorban's (who is going to do full Estonian championship btw) rivals could be Samsonas on his BMW 4WD beast, Kaur on Fiesta Proto and Berkis on Fiesta R5.
I predict nice three-way battle in 2WD between - Solberg, Sesks and Torn. Personally I will pay attention to Denis Rostilov - his first rallly on 4WD. Surpised few seasons ago when in Rally Talsi and Rally Kurzeme beated/was close to it local guys. Could be next russian to follow.

Snow is there now but in fact it could be frozen gravel covered by snow rally. One week ago when after 2 week plus degrees and rain period frost came back organisers were doing all possible to secure rally - https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DTa5uLjX0AA5iFm.jpg All credits to him!

It will be interesting, now it's hard to judge real Gorban's pace, based on his WRC trophy results :D

Just few hours and we going to Alūksne :)

Some impressions from rally Alūksne:
M. Sesks crazy fast, 5th overall, and nobody with 2wd, and only few with 4wd could catch him. I want to see him on other surfaces, usually faster you are on home soil, harder to adapt to another. Hope this ins't that case.
O. Solberg maybe not fast as his father yet, but has even more showmanship than Petter. He know how to deal with attention, he smiles, he comfortable with media, he even dances on podium. And he is real fast. on his first snow rally finish 2nd 2wd.
I said it after Liepaja ERC round, and I'll say it again - one to watch is A. Westlund. On his 3rd rally ever, he was 7th 2wd before technical failure. He has strong team behind him, and driven with Joakim Sjöberg, so they looking into future seriously. it's very early but Sweden may have another talent to come.
Ken Torn driven smart, was fast, but not fastest, until last stage, which was held on dusk time, so conditions could be tricky, and Torn had 4th stage time overall.

2nd round in Latvia and Estonia rally championships - Rally Sarma 2018. Entry list: http://autorally.lv/?m=2&l=2
Once again Valerii Gorban with Mini WRC; N. Gryazin back home before Vaakuna rally in Finland, Estonians R.Aus, E.Kaur and P.Koik with Estonian Proto cars (I heard those are different than Polish one, with rear suspension more R5-ish, don't know if it's true); Also fast youngsters O. Solberg, M. Sesks, A. Westlund and others. And not forget M. Samsonas with 4wd BMW M3.
This time, I think, Gorban won't win, Gryazin is crazy fast, also there is J. Berkis with R5 Fiesta, and if E.Kaur and M.Samsonas manages to stay out of troubles, should be very interesting rally.

Niki Mayr-Melnhof, originally this years top favorite for Austrian championship after "retirements" of Baumschlager and probably also Neubauer, tries to save his R5 project after his main sponsor went bankrupt:

https://www.motorline.cc/rallye/news/2018/Rallye-%C3%96M/Rallye-News-Nach-Sponsor-Ausfall-Mayr-Melnhof-m%C3%B6chte-%E2%80%9ER5-Projekt-retten%E2%80%9C-216310.html

Next run of championship is Rebenland Rallye from 16th to 17th of march.
Baumschlager for sure doesn´t start, and there are still no confirmed news about Neubauer (ERC?). Grössing entered with Fiesta WRC, the last remaining WRC car in Austrian championship.

-Hadik will have a new codriver: Igor Bacigál. They want to win the championship this season, and will continue with his Fiesta.
-His biggest rival might be Vincze, who has stable budget and a good car, and also wants to be champion.
-Looks like that after last year's failure to even start it, there will be a Peugeot 208 cup, but it isn't confirmed as of yet.

Sorry but it's second round of the Spanish championship, first one was the Cocido one month ago with the win for Ares.

Finally Llarena won't start the event cause his engine didn't arrive on time, it's a same for Wagner because he couldn't compare his times with anyone now as this year there aren't anyone in the championship with good level in an R2 as most of them are doing a Mixed-surfaced promotion cup

Miskolc Rally, 2nd round of the Hungarian Championship was this weekend. Sadly before the start, it came out that Vincze won't take part (I heard due to his codriver getting arrested for tax evasion among others, but this is not sure). It was pretty plain sailing for Hadik, who won 2 out of 2 so far. Turán was second, but he couldn't trouble Hadik too much, but still got good points. Third was Velenczei in the Hyundai. There were a couple of big retirements, notably: Kazár (crash), Szauer (mechanical), Balogh (unknown).

The Iseum Rally, 3rd event of the Hungarian Championship finished today.
Turán won, after he switched to Hyundai for this event (his Fiesta was driven by Drotár this weekend), and apart from a spin, he pretty much dominated the event and duely won. Championship leader Hadik had a crash on today's first stage and retired. 2nd place went to Vincze, who returned with a Fiesta and a new codirver after his old codriver's problems with the tax&customs agency. He was closely followed by Peter Ranga, who unfortunately has the funding only to drive the gravel events this year. Results:
1. Turán-Bagaméri, Hyundai i20 R5 1:13:32.9
2. Vincze-Farnadi, Ford Fiesta R5 +31.9
3. Ranga-Holczer, Skoda Fabia R5 +33.0

This weekend will be held "Rally Žemaitija 2018", 2nd Lithuania's rally and 2nd rally-sprint event. There will be 64 crews in total. 110km of SS in this rally, 50km of SS for rally sprint crews, and 75km for historic participants. Full entry list: http://autorally.lt/?m=2&l=2 ,also, there will be results in that page. No big names from another countries (except Janis Vorobjovs, this time with BMW M3, but he's like local in Lithuania's rallies :D ), but almost all fastest locals will be there.
For those, who might have interest in national rallying at various levels, and have some free time to watch results (maybe between ERC Cyprus stages), I recommend follow crew #66 Evaldas Gezevičius/Šarūnas Gumauskas with Opel Kadett, as it will be my first official start in rally event as a co-driver.

Rally Žemaitija, my first finished official rally, and for my driver it's also first official rally as a driver (before this, he was co-driver few seasons). We had total ~50km 4 stages, 1st stage took very easy, actually too easy, 2nd was especially dusty and we manage to show better speed. After service we showed 3rd time in class, and after last stage we lost 4th place in class by 0,1 sec. Main goal was to reach finish, and not destroy a car, not thinking about position, so we complete our plan, even won Junior class for drivers :) 5th place in class out of 10 finished crews, and 13 started. There are some Lithuania's rally-sprint event left this year :) It was very fun and interesting to see rally from other point of view. Full results http://autorally.lt/?m=4&ft=1&l=2 (we compete only in LARSC).
Other impressions: Lithuania's Dakar rally driver Vaidotas Žala there was with Škoda Fabia R5 for first time, with new co-driver Andris Malnieks from Latvia, and win rally over 2 and half minutes. After adaptation process is over they should be even faster. There was some talks about Žala/Malnieks in ERC, but probably not this year. Fun fact: "Žala" in Lithuanian has same meaning as "Škoda" in Czech - "Damage".
V. Švedas with old Evo N4 had great speed until gearbox broke. he had super scary moment in shakedown, when lost brakes at very high speed, before sharp left corner. https://www.facebook.com/v.svedas/videos/1882179548519567/

Székesfehérvár Rally, 4th round of the Hungarian Championship was this weekend.
It was won by Vincze, who was back with a Fabia. He was very fast throughout, and could keep this speed without mistakes, unlike the others. 2nd was Velenczei, his best result for a long time, and 3rd Turán, so 2 Hyundais in the top 3. They both challanged for the lead, but spins and small offs cost them a lot of time. Hadik only finished 4th after losing 40+ seconds when his Fiesta stopped on the stage and couldn't restart it. Results:
1. Vincze-Farnadi, Skoda Fabia R5 59:14.4
2. Velenczei-Szedő, Hyundai i20 R5 +28.2
3. Turán-Bagaméri, Hyundai i20 R5 +42.6

Though to be fair Paddon was treating it as a test for Finland and experimenting with different setups on every stage. Not sure if Tanak and Breen were doing the same or not? Sounded like they all enjoyed themselves anyway :)

All were testing different setups, simulating situations (old worn tyres for example) that was the point of "wasting" money.

I need confirmation for this, but quite the interesting story this weekend with Valeriy Gorban.
He took part to Saaremaa Rally, last round of the Estonian championship, finished in 4th and clinched the Estonian national championship.
Then, the day after, he went to Latvia for Day 2 of Rally Liepaja (each day was a separate round for the Latvian championship), finished in 2nd and clinched the Latvian title as well. If that's the case, good job! :D

Looking at ewrc-results, I see that the Estonian Ranno Bundsen was also in the title fight for both Estonian and Latvian championships. I can guess he decided to focus on the Latvian championship, taking part to Rally Liepaja instead of Saaremaa. He finished in 2nd on Day 1 of Rally Liepaja, but he retired in Day 2. Gorban arrived for Day 2, took 2nd and won the Latvian championship by 1 point after winning the Estonian championship the day before!

Mecsek Rallye, penultimate round of the Hungarian Championship was this weekend. Biggest question was if the title will be decided now, or will it go down to the wire in Nyíregyháza (which will be ERC candidate event). Hadik won after a steady performance that he wasn't able to produce since the beginning of the year, in front of Turán, who only needed a good result to have the best chances for the title. Vincze finished 3rd after he was surprisingly off the pace here. Results:
1. Hadik-Deák, Ford Fiesta R5 1:27:03.6
2. Turán-Bagaméri, Ford Fiesta R5 +10.3
3. Vincze-Bacigál, Skoda Fabia R5 +28.7
4. Kazár-Tóth, Skoda Fabia R5 +1:10.4
5. Ranga-Holczer, Skoda Fabia R5 +2:00.1

What do you think about a mixed event where all the national champions will challenge each other at the end of all european national championships?

I know it's a bit weird but has it been never proposed or existed something like that? Do you think there would be too many issue on organizing it?
I think that being a single event it could be financed by FIA or some other organization so that private winners or even manufacturers should not spend more money the the ones invested for the national championship.

Maybe this is a kind of stupid proposal for some kind of reasons I don't consider since I'm not informed on the organizational side of things, but it would be very nice to have it imho.

The final round of the Hungarian Championship, the 1st Nyíregyháza Rally was this weekend. It was a candidate event for ERC (and got it I think even before it really started). It was a 4-way battle for the title, but only Hadik and Turán had a real fight at the front, the other two contenders (Vincze and Kazár) had no chance. It went down to the wire, as the power stage results decided the champion. In the end, Hadik won both the event and the power stage, and became the champion by only 1 point! Also, it was good to see two big names, Tóth and Bútor in the 208 cup. Unfortunately, Tóth crashed on the 1st day and then had to retire after 1SS on the second, but Bútor was really good and fast, and was a good benchmark for the young drivers; he ended up 2nd after some issues on the first day.

Results:
1. Hadik-Deák, Ford Fiesta R5 1:48:38.4
2. Turán-Bagaméri, Ford Fiesta R5 +29.3

Can You shortly describe the event regarding character of stages compared to other Hungarian or regional events so that we have an idea what to expect next year?
Sure! As far as I know, the stages were pretty good, with some unusual characteristics (ie. it is very uncommon to have a stage with a gravel middle part on a tarmac rally here, and also there was a long 25 km stage that was never run before I think). The stages situated closer to Nyíregyháza were faster with less turns and a bit wider roads, some that were up in the hills were quite narrow and techniqal. I wasn't there, but from the maps and videos I think the technical ones are more like what Miskolc Rally has, the others are different, there was a stage that resembled the Deutschland Rally with vineyards! This year they also struggled with a lot of fog, and some stages held after sunset had to be cancelled as they were deemed too dangerous. All in all, a lot fo people have criticized the choice to go with this avent instead of the Mecsek, but I think they made a pretty good rally out of it!

A couple of videos which show the very different characteristics of the stages:

Nice stages by the looks of it. Last weekend I also had a look at the maps and watched them on Google Earth/Streetview. Looks like there's a good variety between faster/slower sections, between forests and some fields, vineyards... The only thing I don't like to see is huge tree stumps as anti-cutting material, makes it quite dangerous IMO... If it doesn't collide with Condroz next year, I'd like to visit this event. :)

Quality of entries is more like that of a sprint rally in Austria (Austrian rallye challenge).

With this entry list I wouldn´t bet on another edition in 2020, at least not in Austrian championship.

Will Niki Mayr-Melnhof drive this season in ORM?

Probably not, looks like he could join ERC - but nothing official is known.

Shakedown results: https://www.jaennerrallye.at/results/ss0.htm

Judging from webcams there must be a lot of snow on stages now.

Yes, there is. Even Bad Zell-Tragwein-Aisttal-Stage is covered with snow.

Jänner rallye is on, this time in perfect winter conditions, Julian Wagner already gained a massive lead of 40 seconds over his brother Simon, Neubauer lost 2 minutes (stuck in snowbank).

Neubauer accident on street section between stages 1 and 2 (colliding with a civil car, not his fault).

Julian Wagner already 50 sec ahead of his brother, on his first rally with an R5 car and only his second appearance at Jänner Rallye (last year he had to retire rather early). Baumschlager obviously took the right choice when choosing him as driver for BRR.

Julian lost 1,5 minutes in the last stage with gearbox problems but he kept comfortable 20 second lead. Today he was in his own league which is very impressive considering his near non existent experience.

Yes, first time on snow, first time in a R5 car, and only second Jänner Rallye appearance (last year he had to retire just after a few stages). Today both Wagner´s will have to clean the road, but his Brother Simon said he would attack today.

Simon Wagner retired on infamous Aisttal stage (stuck in a snowbank). Nearly ever position changed there, except for Julian Wagner - who is 7 minutes in front now.

Some crazy visitors cause chaos with their cars on road sections. One Audi driver surpassed 7 other cars at once, only to crash with a police car shortly afterwards ...

Great job by Julian Wagner who won by nearly 8,5 minutes in his first ever R5 start! Shame there was no real fight anytime during the rally.

For me it is pity that Neubauer retired so early. He should be only serious rival for Julian this year.
