Why Harrach so slow? any problems?

Harrach was in the lead fighting with Baumschlager, but lost about 3 Min. when he went off the road in stage 8 and broke a wheel.

Scary crash indeed. But what is the average speed on these stages, looks like he is going flat-out most of the time. :D
The co pilot needed to go hundred metres farther to warn the crews.. Impossible to avoid it :s crazy crash..

Great comeback from Jeram! almost all other 2wd-favorites crashed, although they wasn´t able to match Jerams speed, even the "robot" Harrach went off and lost about 3 minutes on the very tricky stages in the wineyards and forests. Great results for Neubauer (lost power steering in SS8), Oliveira (better than expected), Mrlik and of course Baumschlager, so hopefully ÖRM will not be as boring as last year, looking forward to the great stages in Lavanttal (13-14 April)!

The following weekend (31/3-1/4) the first round of Greek tarmac rally championship (they split tarmac and gravel this year) is going to take place in the area of Lamia (where it used to be the greatest location the acropolis rally ever had before the dogs of athens decided they want to take away this as well from the rest of Greece....but that is another rant of mine)

the rally is going to be a double event since the Rally sprint Bralos is intergrated in it as well...

In total the entry list is very poor...only 41 cars

Pegasus Racing rent its 3 Skoda's from Skoda Italia. Abarth cars as Punto S2000s (3) and Punto S1600s (3) are Pegasus Racing own cars. Also they have two Megane Maxi Kit Cars, one Palio S1600 (as Ivan Ganchev used last weekend at Istanbul Bozane Hill Climb) and some other cars in the garage.
Finally Pegasus Racing have a big tent this year. One side Skoda (run by Skoda Italia) other side Abarth run by own.

the coming weekend 21 of april the second round of the Rally cup for north greece will be held (which is the 1st round since the 1st was cacelled due to lack of competitors)... 24 crews in total will take part in Rally Fillipos in the town of Veria and the surounding villages. there will be 4 stages in total.

Very sad about his co driver in 2002. Before I didnt know this and when I watch the 2012 incar footage on this post I think there is zero percent left for margin safety in driving, this is what impressed me when I first see the footage but now it reminds me how dangerous the sport is. He has done much in PWRC and JWRC and now seems to get many good results.

About Beppo Harrach: I really believe he is the fastest Evo-driver at the moment, he proved that at the latest at Jänner rallye this year i guess, to loose only a bit over 1 minute at 240 stage-kms against world best S2000 pilots is really a massive performance! +Manfred Stohl and Mundl Baumschlager are really no cruisemode-drivers! +he is really fast on all surfaces, i really hope he gets a chance to drive a competitive car soon!

Yes, it is his home rally as he lives and is born in Sulingen. Lara Vanneste is again his co-driver, so she gives him extra speed. :D

There were accidents of Dutch drivers Dennis Kuipers (#2, Impreza WRX STI N15) and Jasper van den Heuvel (#4, Lancer Evo 10 R4). Also Peter van Merksteijn jr. (#1, Fiesta S2000) retired with a mechanical problem. The roads there are most of the time wet and dirty.

This was fixed and the stage was run later as stage 4. Stage 3 and 6 (the same stage) was a very short stage at only 3,5 km and were cancellede even before the start of the rally - I don't know why, but because the stage was so short it didn't really affect the rally much. The stage 5 was also cancelled - as far as I know due to oil at the stage after the first run.

So at noon only two out of 6 planned stages were run. But the afternoon went well and there was a good fight for the victory with Christian Jensen winning just 2,6 seconds in front of last years winner, Ib Kragh. 3rd was Brian Madsen (all of them in Peugeot 207 S2000) but aftwards Brian was excluded for illegal servicing, so 3rd ended up being Max Christensen in Subaru Impreza N14.

Indeed a very unusual rally - but luckily not due to events of the sad kind seen in Belgium and France.

Stage 3/6 was cancelled due safety issues following a shortage of stage Marshalls. Stage 5 was cancelled due to environmental problems. A rallycar went off in a forest the first time stage was run as stage 2. A fuel spill was observed and the forest ranger called the fire and environmental service.

Brian Madsen was not the only one excluded, antoher crew was also excluded for illegal service, and 2 crews were excluded due to a to high noise level on their cars.

Yep, spanish "gp N", with bigger restrictor (36mm), sequentials allowed, etc. They had plastic windows, etc. allowed also way earlier than it was homologated for gp R

I had a small chat about R4 cars few weeks ago and one guy mentioned that if current R4 cars could use sequential gearbox and bigger restrictor (apparently the 36mm one), they would have the potential to beat S2000 (on Finnish type gravel roads). Ofcourse this is a big IF, but does it have any truth to it?

This year Istanbul Rally is only run on Sunday.
9 Special Stages (147 km) on three loops total 346 km. Some of the stages are knpow from 2010 WRC round Rally of Turkey and 2011 ERC round Bosphours.
Expected weather is over 30C all day long and it will be hard for all crews.

I will post entry list later this week. But as you know Luca Rossetti, Volkan Işık, Yağız Avcı on the list :)

And with Istanbul Rally, the Fiesta Cup takes start too.
Fiesta R2's and Fiesta Gr.N's fight for the title and prize money. Istanbul Rally, Bosphours Rally and Kocaeli Rally will be run for the Cup entries.

I had a small chat about R4 cars few weeks ago and one guy mentioned that if current R4 cars could use sequential gearbox and bigger restrictor (apparently the 36mm one), they would have the potential to beat S2000 (on Finnish type gravel roads). Ofcourse this is a big IF, but does it have any truth to it?

If S2000 had several more upgrades they would be again far away. This way we get nowhere ;)

is it sure that they have 36mm restrictor,and not 34? With 36mm i expect about 350 bhp and more than 650Nm.

It was the first fatal rally accident in Latvia since 2006

Lithuanian crew:
Rokas Kvaraciejus and Audrius Šošas was also taken to the to the hospital from stage 2, but luckily their injuries are not so serious. It was head-on impact with the tree and luckily cars are pretty well prepared for such accidents nowadays.

When tarmac then France or Czech would be my choice, but if gravel event then i would choose something from Baltic stages or Finland, same for snow events!

Few severe accidents happened. One at the end of the video - aftermath can be seen. Crew was hospitalized, but only minor injuries and now is OK.
Unfortunately crew # 91 Normunds Verbelis/ Igors Bartascenoks underwent very severe crash which led to co-drivers death. Deepest condolences to relatives and friends of Igors Bartascenoks. R.I.P.

A very hot weekend @istanbul :) And 33. Istanbul Rally finished. The winner is Luca "Rox" Rossetti by 8.6 sec a head of triple TRC champ Yagiz Avci. Awesome fight between too. Some accidents happened at the ISG SS which is the longest of the rally. Its a very hard one really. 4-5 diferent type of gravel in the stage and o course a tarmac part :)

Slovenian Rally Championship: now we have 5 rally cars in R2 (R3) category with support of importers; after 2 Skoda Fabia R2, Ford Fiesta R2, Peugeot 206 R3 (wish for next year 208 R2) we have now even new Renault Twingo R2 Evo. Because we have a Renault factory in Slovenia (Revoz), it's with new look, but for the rally it will be changed (no homologation for the new face).
