Tom there is plenty of snow in Estonia at the moment. I don't have any photos yet, but you can find them in http://www.motorsport.ee website tomorrow.
There hasn't been so much snow here during the winter time for many years.

Yesterday not only Norway saw a winter rally finish. The second round of Latvian RC concluded in Gulbene, North of country - rally Sarma 2009.

Conditions - ice with some packed snow on frozen grave. 41 crew started the event (34 in rally cars and 7 in off-roads), 32 finished with 9 retirements [8 (cars) +1 (off-roads)]. All podium was occupied by N4 group drivers. First place was claimed by 2008 champion Aivis Egle. Janis Vorobjovs was as close as 7.57 seconds behind, followed by Maris Neiksans (elder brother of Andis Neiksans who was 5th in Norway's PWRC battle).

Foreign participants. Rokas Lipeikis of Lithuania finished 8th overall and 3rd in A Plus class. Young Estonian talent Siim Plangi after hitting the pothole, bounced in the nearby tree and had to retire. Before that he was leading the 2WD with 15sec clear of second place (after 21.5km into special stages). Out of 5 Russian crews two retired while Yuri Sidorenko took 13th place and Dmitry Biryukov - 22nd, Aleksei Berkut took 2nd place in off-roads.

Each year one or two of the rally-raid events are run together with regular (road) rallies. Sometimes raid drivers have few different stages and few coinciding. The rally-raid (real off-road) is popular but there where only 7 crews in this "collective" round. I suppose it's because of entry fees and costs involved (special winter tyres) but it's just my educated guess.

Are they attractive? They have more tolerance for mistakes when going off the track, so they are more "brave". On the other hand - their trajectories are a little bit less predictable and thus, they are more dangerous for media :)

Whats happend with Raimonds Kisiels? And what about Ivars Vasaraudzis?
Regarding Raimonds... I'd guess that the car is a bit too powerful for him to handle - in some places he was loosing time by taking unsuitable trajectories. He's basically driving for his own fun, result leaving as a kind of secondary item.

Vasaraudzis was serving a zero one role in an Evo 7 - quite spectacular zero car we had there, actually sweeping the road for the first car. :) He's plans for this season are unclear (at least to me), seems, he's skipping the rally championship. Spredzis (his co-driver) now is a co-owner of the MML Sports - it could be something to do with this (workload) or... simply the pocket is too thin... these are speculations based on what's been said - neither their team's forum reveal any details, nor I have any insider information.

Both Škoda factory crews should be present at Valašská rally, the opening round of Czech International Championship! Together with Novikov, Kresta, Pech or Valoušek it would be dream entry for this rally! The only possible problem may be the lack of Fabias...

Both Škoda crews should also run Barum and Bohemia rally. Kopecký may do more.

Benik will skip this championship, he plans just some rounds. Herczig denied that he would change for group N, he wanna ride a WRC again, which should be a Subaru and the minimum is last year's S9.
Spitzmüller said in an interview that he stays with the Lancer WRC, just changes to Pirelli.
Tamás Turi has no contract, he just hopes for something.
All of them have problems with the current economical situation :(

After leading the Rally since the opening stage, Luís Mota – this time co-driven by Filipe Carvalho – ended the event on top, with a comfortable gap of more than three minutes over Júlio Bastos.
In reverse to what it may look like, the Mitsubishi's crew didn't have an easy Rally: a leak in the cooling system gave the team huge headaches, who had to refill the water levels after each stage. Taking the car up to the final control has been a tough task.

Hannut isn't a round for the Belgian championship, Mirek. The first rally for the Belgian championship is the TAC Rally in April. In the late morning, Gert Huzink with a Fabia WRC left the road in Hannut and there is one official dead... Still the rally is going, unbelievable. :( I don't have more news for now.

I wonder how it could happen because braking of one pole can't cause the fall of wires on the ground. Their either stay in the air or brake themsleves...

I was standing on the other side of the road when the accident happened.
The wires fell on the ground with the pole. Stephane Lucchese was holding an umbrella which might be the cause of his death as the voltage went through it. Sudden death apparently.

Hey, i cover all Galicia Regional championship, including hillclimb and rallye. I also make 5 or 6 Events from Spanish Rallye championship depending if i found work or not hehe...last year i went to madeira too...this year...i have to change my camera and both lens...so...maybe i wont travel too much outside spain...

Very interesting entrylist at the Rallye Epernay Vins de Champagne(held in eastern France) this week-end :)

First round for the new national Trophée Renault Clio R3(12 entrants)and Citroën Racing Trophy(11 entrants - three C2 S1600 and eight C2R2 Max)... ;)

Peugeot-Sport also use this rally to finish the last developpment of the 207 RC R3T of the future Volant 207(driver Denis Millet, winner of the 2008 206 Cup)...

Baumschlager: very likely. they only need a confirmation from skoda that they will get a spare car for sandell/portugal if some damage should happen, but i think the chances to see baumschlager in fabia s2000 at lavanttal are 80%
