The chancellor is basically saying that Germany needs immigrants but immigrants need to do something to get into the society.

I agree.
I love it when an incoming culture assimilates the new culture that they are in and also brings with it the unique traits of its own culture.

Here in Manhattan we have these great restaurants that sell Chinese/Cuban cuisine.

When you go to eat there, the waiters are chinese and speak with a perfect cuban accent.
In their menu you can have a sweet and sour chicken or a plate or "ropa vieja" with some delicious rice and beans and sweet plantains.

Oh, and the kind waiters also speak english ( and chinese and spanish)

. . . and I am an immigrant from Colombia that has a mother that was born in Queens, NY and a father that was born in England from British parents.
