There were only about 4-5 last year, so yes, it’s a big improvement. A lot of the other European rounds are also National events, and attract the national Championship drivers – which adds to the entry. So last week in Sanremo there were about 25-30 20 S2000 cars, unfortunately, we only have 1 S2000 in the BRC, so it wouldn’t make much difference even if it was part of the BRC.

I presume one of the S2K cars will be Breen in his Fiesta.

Mathew Wilson would love to start, and gain from his experience of last year as 0 car, but he can't get a car ready so soon after Rally Catalunya. But the Fiesta model will still be represented with Andreas Mikkelsen entered in his M-Sport-run example. Meanwhile Scottish driver Dave Weston Jr, who normally rallies a Subaru Impreza, has been linked to a run in Henning Solberg’s Fiesta S2000.
Juha Haninen - Skoda Fabia
Guy Wilks - Skoda Fabia
Kris Meeke - Peugeot 207
Thierry Neuville - Peugeot 207
Andreas Mikkelsen - Ford Fiesta
? Breen - Ford Fiesta
Dave Weston - Ford Fiesta ??
Alister McRae - Proton Satria
Keith Cronin - Proton Satria
Daniel Barry - Mitsubishi Lancer
Tom Cave - Proton Satria

I do wonder whether instead of instigating a new event they should have used a current event, e;g the McRae Stages, gone to 2 days and guaranteed a better entry, by being part of the Scottish Championship.

National crews only do the first loop of the last day, following on from the first pass by the Internationals, though with the change to the stages that day I don't know if this affects it, or if they are given a refund of the entry fee or something. It's a national rally so drivers don't need to have an international license and cars do not have to be homologated (and less strict safety requirements, ie no HANS as this is not compulsary in the UK). They are not allowed to do a recce but are given pre-prepared route notes.

I do wonder whether instead of instigating a new event they should have used a current event, e;g the McRae Stages, gone to 2 days and guaranteed a better entry, by being part of the Scottish Championship.
The problem with that, is that the Scottish Championship is not run to FIA regulations and so a lot of local people would not be able to enter without spending a significant amount of money upgrading their cars to meet the requirements - mainly HANS, seats, harnesses, etc, but also the cars have to be homologated. I think this is a big reason why more national drivers haven't entered, prior to last year's event I had heard that it would be around £6k to get everything up to scratch :s
The other issue is of course available space for servicing etc which is limited as it is. It is a shame so few crews have entered but being so close to the end of the year and with the IRC allowing dropped scores there is always the risk of there not being a championship to still fight for, if it was closer I'm sure there would be a couple of others. The stages used are all really nice and very scenic, and very difficult to drive, especially if it is wet. I just hope that Drummond Hill is not too rough having been used just two weeks ago. I will be there whatever!!

Thanks for the information!
Siim Plangi is doing Saaremaa rally this weekend. And I think he is using same car in Scotland :-) Nice logistical task for him. Rally ends on Saturday evening and he can leave the Saaremaa Island on Sunday morning. Kruuda is also doing Saaremaa rally but he is using different car in Scotland.
Hopefully the car stays on the road and lasts:-) We have so tight competition in 2WD category in Estonia that usually top three is in 10 seconds by the end of the rally. By the way, Plangi won the last rally in 2WD and second place was only 0.5 sec behind :-)

Weather
It looks to be very uncharacteristic.
Currently it looks highly likely that the weather in Scotland will be nice and the possibility of rain is not very high. But the possibility of fog is very high.
Good news is also that Plangi won 2WD in Saaremaa rally and his car is still in one piece :-) If he stays on the road and there is no rain, then he might finish in top 10 (Overall).

Yes there is no shakedown here but I hear there were a few teams testing earlier this week. I am just on my way to the airport now so will be able to see what's what. Should be dry for the whole event, maybe even dusty as I don't think it's rained recently (maybe a light shower earlier today if any). It's meant to be cold on Saturday night but I'd say no serious ice to worry about.
Now that I have interweb on my phone I may be able to post some photos up during the event :)

Also lot of puncture's allready. In the case of Meeke it is no surprise, if you saw how he was cutting and also taking lot's of risks. Also Wilks was very lucky to "survive" his off on previous stage, he hit a rock with left front and was lucky to get away with it. It will be difficult for Chris now, being 38 sec behind the rallyleader Wilks.

With what is regarded by the majority as worse tyres and a worse car, and with such little experience compared to Hanninen, I think these times really show how good Mikkelsen can become. I'm very excited about his future.

Is Eurosport still showing a wet day in Normandy? Thought broadcast started at 4.20?
Edit - race finished, time for Scotland.
That race wasn't in Normandy, but in Lombardia (Italy) and it was by far much better than this rally. The finish there was in Como, where the last rally of the CIR 2010 is later this month.

A few comments about the broadcast in Eurosport. It was fine to watch but a few things were a bit irritating. Picture from Juhos onboard in first stage and same about Wilks. It was so dark that only the sky was visible :-) Many times it sounded like commentators were a bit ahead of the picture;-) And the most irritating was the fact that helicopter was visible quite often but unfortunately no picture from there. I really liked the final camera location just after the watersplash and just in front of a quick right hander :-)
Anybody knows the link to the results of national event?

It was indeed in Lombardy, my mistake. And yes, it was good. Gilbert did well to hold of Scarponi.

Tyres, probably... but I think the Fiesta is probably at least as fast on gravel as the Fabia. Andreas has been around a few years already so I think you exaggerate a little about his lack of experience but he has been very impressive here in Scotland. First time he has been truly impressive in IRC this year IMO, although a lot of that may have been down to the tyres previously.

Got to say though I feel for the spectators that have made the jorney up with so few cars in the rally. Surely part of it must be down to Rally Gb being only a month away and it would be better for rally Scotland to be in the spring/summer time?
I agree, spring time would be good. Championship wouldn't be over then either.

Some nice times for Wilks today. Eurosport commentators said he was driving the best spec customer car now. Was he still with Skoda Italy in Scotland or was it a works car?
Some of the times Proton set weren't too bad when they were running but they really need to work on that reliability!
Feel sorry for Meeke, last stage really sums up his year. Thanks for being a star in IRC Kris and beter luck next year in WRC!

Good news is also that Plangi won 2WD in Saaremaa rally and his car is still in one piece :-) If he stays on the road and there is no rain, then he might finish in top 10 (Overall).
I was so wrong :-) I didn't expect rain for Sunday and I didn't expect Plangi to finish 5th in IRC :-) Great effort with his little car!
Well I didn't expect that there are only 10 finishers and 20% of the them are Estonians :-P
Congratulations to Hanninen, Mikkelsen and Meek as well to finally finish on podium!

In the end Hankkok showed that they have produced a tire that are equal to the top producers, and that is not bad in a small year !
Mikkelsen is quick enough, the Fiesta is quick enough, and now they have a quick enough gravel tire - the team are fighting in the top.
Congrats on a well deserved 2nd place !

They have started with gravel tire with very, very hard sidewall. It was very reliable, we run whole season without any punctures but it has negative influence on handling/traction. So now they make sidewalls little softer and the difference is clearly visible in times.
