i wonder, if after six years of development, that GT5 will be just another Gran Turismo.

wonderful to look at, but awful to race, Id say it's actually quite dull and tedious on the track.

hopefully, it will combine the stunning visuals of Gran Turismo with racing as pure as say Grid etc (err, not with the handling ofcourse)

would be nice not to have to sit in a citroen c3 or autobianchi thingy trundling round to gain a few quid for long too......

EDIT: and if i slide off the track at the nurburgring and then just bounce of the barrier like a bumber car again in a car that feels like a boat, I won't consider the six years worth it.

Oh I dont mind most street tracks (I really wish Tokyo R246 was a real track), its just that Hong Kong was so tight and fiddly and down right pathetic to drive that I hope we have no more tracks like it.

I've never had a problem with that track. Reminds me of Toronto/Exhibition Place and Adelaide

Tokyo street course on the original Forza was stupidly tight and fiddly.

Thats because they have had to find new slots in the blue ray factories, shipping contractors etc
They also promised to announce a release date in October, so we have until Monday to prove me correct
I'm guessing the game will launch week 1 or week 2 of December:

The addition of several Ferraris and Lamborghinis make the list superior to any past GT
Get a PS3 for the following, then:
GTA IV - the Complete Edition
Race Driver Grid
Red Dead Redemption

Yeah pretty disappointed as it really is just kinda an updated GT4 car list with a few more extra cars and even those were pretty much seen at GTPSP already. Pretty disappointed as was expecting way more at the time this project has been going on. Also the racing car list is almost the same as it kept to be and the liveries are very outdated as most of the racing cars on those liveries were already at GT3-GT4.

The track list, okey we have a track editor and weather system at some of the tracks but many old GT classics are missing and even some expected real tracks didnīt appeared in the end.

The game will still surely be great, atleast I hope so but the basic feeling Iīm having is a bit cold as I expected way way more.

interesting, over a 1000 cars, and not enough proper purpose built racers. the lack of the Lola-Aston Martin LMP1 is dissapointing, and i dont get why polyphony havn't designed a car that is like an old Indy car (pre 1996) to blast round indy and even daytona. I know they've got the Ferrari F2007 and F10, and the Formula GT, but no purpose built open wheel oval racer is a dissapointment.

I'm hoping for DLC which was a huge success for Forza

Hockenheim was used in a demo but doesnt appear in the full game, so it is likely to be additional content

The car list is the usual Gran Turismo dullness. Is it necessary to have 115 Nissans and only have 12 Ferrari's? The only Nissans I would ever associate with track driving are the 99 Primera Super Tourer (which I can't see on the list), Skyline and GT-R.

The circuit listing is also dull. Although I do want to drive the Top Gear track.

MrJan
15th November 2010, 09:42
Oh joy, I can drive eleventy million types of Skyline, one of the most exciting cars of all time

And do we really need 18 Honda S2000s, 12 3000GTs or however many RX-7s there are? Seems to me like they've concentrated too much on getting over 1,000 cars without really bothering to make them different.

I'm not convinced that it's worth me even bothering, especially as I won't be able to dedicate serious time to get the really big money to buy the sort of cars that are exciting to drive.

Way to take everything so seriously.

It's still an ugly car though, and there is no point in having that many in one game. Personally I'd rather have a car that is underpowered and you have to actually drive. The Skyline is all about having huge dyno figures and theoretical 0-60 times.

Not going to buy a game for the same outdated cars plus a comparatively tiny amount of new ones. The Forza 3 car list looks more impressive.

Codemasters games have never really been my favourite - if there was a codies game for PS3 that might encourage me it would be F1 2010. RDR+GTA4 still doesn't quite seal it.

I completely agree with Mixa about the outdated liveries. For example, the most recent Peugeot WRC on the game is from 2003. I'm actually somewhat surprised they bothered to include any Peugeot WRC after the 1999 206. Which is historically fairly insignificant - why it even made it to GT3 let alone GT4 as the only modern Peugeot WRC is anyones guess.

They would've been better off adding more cars on this game of some historic, aesthetic or otherwise cultural value, instead of cars like Daihatsu Moves, Nissan Cubes and 'Toyota Corolla Runx Z Aerotourers'.

They could halve the car list just by removing all the cars that are pretty much idential to each other, such as the Skylines, NSX's, the FTO's and so on, and then give the player the option of adding racing modifications to standard cars if they wanted racing versions of the car, which was quite an enjoyable feature of Gran Turismo 1 and 2.

Speaking of GT1 and GT2, the car handling physics are so much more enjoyable than GT3 and GT4. If they re-realised Gran Turismo 1 and 2 with more classic cars, tracks and opponent AI that wasn't horribly easy like all GT games, I would buy it.

Graphics are nothing without gameplay.

I have just a PS2, and my last GT game is the 2nd...so for me, this makes it taking that quantum leap forward. I know, I am in the stone ages, but hey, I am not the gamers some of you guys are. I do think after seeing the car list that 400 really good cars would beat the 1000 car list the have with maybe 200 interesting ones. That said, they have Jay Leno's car that is powered by a Tank Engine....so they did put a little whimsy in there.

It has the Top Gear Track, Indy, Daytona, Nurburging and Le Mans. I don't know what else a man needs...Maybe Spa? I would love Bathhurst...but I think adding tracks is a lot more problematic than adding cars....

I have found Gran Turismo is still more of a sim than a simple game. You can adjust how the car handles and some cars they give you just push like understeering trucks. There is a sim aspect to it, but with a hand controller for a game, you really have to have simple feedback.....

Both the above renderings above are high quality by modern standands I would say. If I got the lighting that good on one of my renders I'd be pretty satisfied. :)

Yes, but it's all fine and dandy to have a drive to places and take photos mode but if the graphics aren't that great in the game......

Though to be fair graphics are always second to gameplay for me and GT has never been all that great to play. You spend your time wading through millions of skylines, supra's and the like and then you spend all of your time just wishing that the car would move about a bit more under you......

Everytime a new GT comes out they go on about how it's more advanced and accurate and realistic and it feels wooden every time.

I've waited 4 years for this game and now surprisingly I'm in no rush to buy it.. I think I've got abit bored with the wait and can now postpone my purchase until the new year. I have F1 2010 to keep my racing bug happy, and with christmas I need all the money I can get. :\

My advice. Buy Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. There's none of the silly tuning crap (well I've not seen any so far!!!!), it's pure arcade so it does what it does well rather than trying to be a sim which tries to attract arcade games and it's just a load of fun.

Whoever did the driving for that video is pretty out of their depth.

Also, I never understood peoples fascination with bonnet cams in racing games. Chase cameras give so much more awareness of surroundings. Also I like watching what I'm driving in video games, but thats just me.

Realism, innit.

I always used to use chase cameras as it lets you see the car but when I got a wheel for the 360 I just found it odd so switched to bonnet/cockpit view. I now use it all the time and, for the most part, actually do better and drive more smoothly when I use it.

Oh dear, GT proves once again that it is a driving game, not a racing game. The noise of the collisions in the video on the second page is simply awful. Not to mention the fact that the VW Campers and area around the TG track look like they've been cribbed from GT2 (judging by the graphics). I'll still buy it though, it's such an expansive game that there will always be areas to really enjoy.

Well I have a copy currently spinning around in my PS3. I'm currently waiting for it to install 8GB of Data though! Obviously shows they've made full use of a Blu Ray disc!

Definitely going to need to get a seat and steering wheel for this. Very impressed with the physics so far, and the rain effects are pretty awesome!

ROFL. A dual layer DVD as used in most PC and Xbox 360 games holds 8.5gb. Bluray hasn't resulted in people magically getting more content like people said it would.

If you had a PC you'd have been playing the game online 10 minutes later ;)

Doubtful...far more likely that I'd be watching porn, not least because GT5 isn't available for PC (which of course is why you don't like it, down with non-Microsoft things :p : )

I actually managed to play it for about 30 minutes and, aside from the loading times being excrutiating at times, it's typical GT fare. Not overly impressed with graphics though, did a 'create your own course' and it's like stepping back in time, they really haven't bothered with trying to make the background interesting. Also had a go (albeit on arcade) with a Focus WRC round Laguna Seca and not particularly chuffed with the way that goes/handles, seems like Polyphony are unaware that rally cars also go on tarmac and are actually quite fast.

Enjoyed cocking around on the drift mode with a M3 though. It's not like other drift games where you flick it in, floor in and slide forever. It actually takes a bit of work to balance throttle and steering, especially if you're using the normal controller.

Here's 3 of my screenshots from the game so far

Much better physics than GT4! Can actually powerslide a RWD car and control it. Having some good fun with the arcade mode, bored with the GT mode with having to start with the slow as s*ite cars, and the NASCAR is just mind numbingly dull.

I have found Gran Turismo is still more of a sim than a simple game. You can adjust how the car handles and some cars they give you just push like understeering trucks. There is a sim aspect to it, but with a hand controller for a game, you really have to have simple feedback.....

In terms of setting up a car I found Forza better because its more of a challenge because you need to think instead of relying on basic know how.

Otherwise this game is BRILLIANT !!!!!!! Superb !!!

It is a great game, but with 500 less useless cars and a bit more in the way of options on other ideas are valid criticism. That said, I loved the franchise the way it was with Gt3....all I wanted was more cars, a little more realistic pictures and more tracks. I think GT5 will tick those boxes. I have played Forza and it is fun too, but for me, the GT franchise is what it is.... the best still.
