Does anyone notice Massa grid slot on the start of 2010 Belgian GP higher than everybody else?
Then why FIA launch investigation now? Weird..

It was picked up by Martin Brundle on BBC, so Charlie obviously forgot to look at the grid at the start.

Also happened with Webber in Bahrain, again no action.

A bit curious.

see here http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/86327

i do remember either Brundle or Legard picking up on it ast he grid formed, one of them joked that maybe that was Ferrari's way of team orders to get Alonso ahead of Massa. Forgot all about it until i read the report and came here to see a thread started

Very strange that the grid sensors didn't pick it up, yet Martin Brundle and random person in crowd with camcorder did. I guess that it does need investigating as to what happened, but they'll probably just come back with "it was broken." Bit late now anyway.

How wasn't it spotted at the time?

It should have been but lets hope now though that the Result isn't altered.

I'm pretty sure that they can't alter the result now unless there's evidence of them cheating, which there presumably isn't. This doesn't look like intentional cheating by anyone, just a driver error that for some reason wasn't picked up by either the grid software or race control. I think they're looking to make sure it doesn't happen again rather than punish Massa retrospectively.

He could still get disqualified from the German GP though.

The reason he wasn't penalised is because of the biased officials that will do anything to penalise Ferrari and help Lewis. :p

An International Automobile Federation (FIA) spokeswoman added, however, that there was no possibility of the Brazilian losing his fourth place finish from Spa.

I'm pretty sure a 'jump start' has to be punished during the race with a drive through.

It's not Massa who needs to be penalised here, there needs to be procedures in place to make sure that all cars are behind the grid lines at the start.

If any are ahead then the race start shouldn't be aborted, but they should get a drive through during the race.

Clearly, the problem was too many cars on the grid. The officials couldn't look at all of them. Reduce the number of cars and Massa's transgression would have been spotted easily:

Blimey, I thought it was an inch or so. Not half the sodding car!!!!

That really does need to be addressed. Imagine the uproar from some quarters if that was Lewis. Doesn't bear thinking about :D
