Fantasy Grand Prix for 2007

AKA - the 2007-Low-Budget version.

Yes it has returned and I am running it this year in the hopes of Arrows being able to return next year with his Super-spiffy version.

The rules are the same but the presentation is going to be very different. All of the results and standings will be posted in this forum. I think the season would be missing something if the FGP wasn't' running so I thought I would run it this year. I will make sure to have all of the results posted on Sunday, after the race of course, so long as nothing holds me up. There is only one time that I know of for sure that the results will not be posted until Monday and that will be for the USGP. The reason is that I will be attending the race.

Here are the rules for the 2007 FGP:

You are the owner of a Formula One team with a budget of £45,000,000 for the 2007 season.

To complete your team, you need to pick three drivers (two drivers + a £1m driver), a chassis and an engine. A list of drivers, chassis and engines, with their relative prices will be found below the rules. Two of your three drivers must come from this price list. Your third driver choice, who will cost you £1m, is any driver that does not appear on the price list. Finally you must pick a bonus GP which will score double points for your team at that race.

Points are awarded throughout the race weekend and are detailed below.

Only the first chassis and engine that crosses the line scores points for your team.
A race disqualification loses you all points for the disqualified driver/chassis/engine for that race weekend.

In the event of two or more FGP teams scoring the same amount of points by the end of the season the winner will be decided by the number of race wins achieved by the FGP teams involved. If the teams cannot be separated by wins then the team owner who was first to submit their FGP2007 entry wins.

When you say there is the event of a tie, and race wins will separate, does that mean all parts of the team will collectively be counted, i.e. wins by the drivers, engine, and chassis? Because that wouldn't separate a BMW-Ferrari from a Ferrari-BMW.

I am rooting for scott speed and wurz, but I am also trying to win the competion.

I think, based on their cars, both Kovaleinen and Hamilton are steals at that price. It is too good of an option to pass up. Unless they revise the ratings on the two, expect to see more pairings.

IMO both will finish steadily in the points, all year long, primarily on their cars performance. On the flip side, the Toyota's and their drivers are valued a bit too high for it to make sense. Do you see them outpacing the Renault and Mclaren.. I don't think so.

Yes - changing the bonus GP means your teams are unique.

I thought about that but I decided to go with the ratings based on how the drivers did during the last season. I put Hekki & Lewis above The Aguri & Spyker drivers because the former are in better cars (Wurz is low just due to the fact that he hasn't been in many races over the past four years).
But there is no guarantee that they will consistently score points during the season. That is why I rated it the way I did and to change it now would put everyone is a seriously bad mood....

I'd say that Hamilton, Kubica, and Kovaleinen are the most popular picks in that order.

There will be a lot of parity this year, perhaps adding more qualifiers might distinguish the masses. Like rewarding qualifying.

They could also be huge flops too. Remember that Hamilton has to race against the current champion. Look at Rosberg - he would have been much better had the car not failed him (plus he wasn't the perfect driver).

I am not going to anoint the newly converted until after they show us what they can do.
