currently 20th in the standings, 189 points out of 12th. Its frustrating because Edwards is sitting in 10th with 1 top 5 and 6 top 10s. Yet Monty with 4 top 5's and 7 top 10s is in 20th spot.

Points are awarded all the way to the bottom in NASCAR. Top 5s and top 10s only tell part of the story.

yep, people always fail to look then at the bad finishs JPM has. this is not F1, Nascar points are awarded for Consistency, not for 5 or 6 good races and 8 bad ones

Method of distributing points are the same for all drivers.

Some drivers may think they deserve more points, but it gets them nowhere. :D

I'm checking the stats now and Montoya's average finish has been 19.7 and Edwards' has been 13.7.

Harvick is leading the standings and his average finish is 9.1. Denny Hamlin has the most wins and his average finish is 11.8.

Carl Edwards and Mark Martin have really just cruised around all year and pit late or get the wave around and still manage to get top 10's.

Their teams know how to get the best finish possible no matter what the car isn't doing. It is part of the game.....
