Well I waited and waited till someone would open a topic around the Ypres Rally but seems nobody wants to do that and because of the already nice entry list + confirmations + a lot of rumours I needed to open this topic! :P

In the rule book it was 90 entries, and I say it's blah blah, just a strategy to get fast entries IMO. I don't see a spare list coming fast there maybe in Historics, but they'll find a way probably. What I know is they're very busy now :D they even have even more work than last year.

Wevers Sport has bought a Skoda Fabia S2000 from RGRS (driven by Brynildsen in Portugal) for renting and will enter the car for Mark van Eldik, together with Mark's own team ATM Autosport. The Fabia will probarly also be present in the Deutschland Rally.

I think Eurosport will have live coverage, but not from the stages, only from servicepark. Also Belgian television Exqui Plus will have 10 times half an hour broadcast, but i think also only serviceparks and shakedown. :)

With less than 2 weeks to go can anyone post up any 'must visit' spectator points. Looking to spend most of Friday on Hollbeke stage for IRC 1 then FIA Historics and then the top 20 IRC (2). I was then going to hop across to Mesen (2) for the rest of the evening. Saturday schedule looks like 4 different stages is possible to visit, but 'which ones' is the question.

RTP-Madeira is responsible for the transmission and broadcast live at national television. Sometimes by RTP2, RTP-N and RTP International.
This year one of the stages will have a big jump near a football stadion. I hope to see live pictures from there. :D

Wilks was on TV here last night having oxygen therapy to speed up his recovery but they said he expected to be back competing in 5-6 weeks, so it doesn't look he will be in Belgium, unfortunately

It's not such minor injury and speeding up the recovery too much could make more bad than good. Only 7 of 12 events counts so there is no big threat to his championship chances.

Althought it's a pity he has to miss this one, if he is going to miss one it makes sense for it to be this one in my opinion. The entry list is so strong in Belgium that I don't think a podium would have been realistic for Guy there, especially with a bad back.

Hankook should not be a tottaly bad tyre...

They won in Spain last year a Tarmac event with Mikkelssen... it was a specific event (changing conditions.. dry, wetc...) but they won with.

I hear from several drives, the Hankook tarmac tyre is as good a BFG/Michelin until 20km stage. But in national or even international events not that many stages longer then 20km :D

I'm seeing a lot of testing going on from the top guys and teams. Sadly none for Bruno Magalhães...again. Combined with no previous knowledge of the rally it may prove to be a huge handicap, even more so with an entry list as good as this. The budget is that short. Still, it's better for him to do the rally with no testing than not doing it at all as it was originally planned.

Mikkelsen has not driven on tarmac since Costa Brava last year.
Its his first time on tarmac with the Fiesta.
He have never done Ypres before which is a difficult rally.
He is satisfied if he can reach fifth place or better.

Seriously though, I don't think those shakedown times are that realistic. I don't expect Sarrazin to be that far off the pace, and I don't expect the Protons to be that slow either.

Kopecky is on good form at the moment though, hope he can continue that on the rally.

VFTS - you're right, but if the SD pace is representative of actual pace, Andreas will really struggle for top 5. I've always thought he looks more comfortable on tarmac than gravel, so lack of tarmac experience isn't really an excuse. But you are right that it's his Fiesta debut on tarmac, so I'll let him off this weekend ;)

I also agree with you RS - Sarrazin will be much nearer the front than that.

Perhaps the car isn't so developed as the 207 and the Fabia but Im sure with a good set up it can be as fast, Fiesta
has already won some tarmac events through Europe, ofcourse you might have to be a little bit more often on the limit.

The Protons looked a bit low in the set up, all 3 of them hit the tarmac edge while cutting corners, and by that was surfing in another direction than planned. None of the others I saw did that.

And there is a lot of corner cutting in Ypres...

Melissa Debackere this weekend is also present in the GEKO Ypres Rally. Not with the forthcoming Peugeot 207 S2000 but with a Subaru Impreza STi.

A small setback for the well-tempered Debackere from one day to the other was a fait accompli. "I had so much looking forward to another with the Peugeot 207 S2000 on the road to go. After Condroz rally last year, where I help with the Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg and my loyal sponsors, for the first time that truck could taste was the great famine in Ypres me to show with this car. It might not be a major sponsor dropped out suddenly from the budget so we were not around and so were looking for an alternative. "
