Hi all rally fans,

I post a special request on the Asia Pacific section for a good reason: I dream since I known the WRC, to discover New Zealand and live there one year or more. This is one of the most beautiful countries, with lots of different and incredible landscapes (volcano, tropical forest, coast, mountains ...). Moreover, the aim is to learn and discover a new culture than my European one, meet new people and way of life and most important improve my English !

In fact I will be graduated as an engine engineer at the end of the year, so perfect time to travel and live somewhere else in 2011.

As a huge rally fan like all of you, I try to find a post on this incredible motorsport to continue to live my passion and improve my skills. In fact, I have numerous experiences in rally:

- Co-driver since 2007
- Volunteer mechanic in French gravel championship from 2005 to 2007
- Beginner race engineer on Fabia WRC in 2009 (2 races)
- Internship of 3 months in Skoda Motorsport at Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic) in 2009, in the technical department as an apprentice engineer (awesome experience)
- Reece co-driver for Manu Guigou (Clio R3) in French tarmac championship in 2010
- Run in a Fabia WRC on gravel (JC Lavigne) and in a Fabia S2000 with Hanninen during test pre-Barum
- Photographer and spectator on 20 rallies per year (WRC, IRC, French championship (tarmac and gravel)).
- I make a website with a friend: http://www.only-rally.com and a kind of blog during my internship at Skoda Motorsport (http://bidouentchequie.blog.free.fr/, only in French at this time)

So as you see, I’m very implicated in my passion so able to make a job in it.
I don’t find especially an engineer post, but more a job to live my passion and time I will spend in NZ: money isn’t my leitmotiv, passion yes! “This is my life” like said Petter Solberg. For example it could be:

- A technical job for national team in rally or V8 supercar for example (chief mechanic, manager, engineer) --> kinds of jobs I can make thanks to my degrees and experiences
- In media job (photography, reporter)
- For the national federation of the NZRC
- And more ...

So, I need helps from you and your contacts to reach this goal. I will study all propositions and offers even if I know that it will be difficult but I will try hard to reach this dream. At the same time, I search for more typical jobs and collocation.

Got your message, but said would reply if we found anything.
As yet, nothing that would pay you a decent salary is available within the sports organisation.
As for working for a team?...I can count on one hand the number of teams in NZ that have paid crew. And most of those have to have another job to subsidize thier living expenses.

If you want to be involved on a casual/unpaid basis...I don't think you would have a problem, however I'm guessing you need a job so you can get a Visa?

You are totally right and I understand that it will be difficult to find any paying job in motorsport before going to NZ.
Of course, have a job to live and an other one in my passion in motorsport is a good idea, and I think a most realistic one. Like proposed Ms Cox who has an engineering company and in the same time her children in NZRC

I continu to search for opportunities ;)

Moreover, I thank you Mr Benett to follow this project and for your help. For sure it will work :D

Not to thread derail too much but can anyone tell me what 3g cellular technologies are used in NZ, also, if known, what the 4g technology will be. Here in the states the predominant 4g tech will be LTE (europe and parts of asia too). May be popping into and out of NZ sometime in 2011 and am trying to figure out what to do regarding cell carriers (one phone two different SIMs would be ideal for instance).

I would think the point of travelling to NZ is to escape your stateside life for a while, could you leave the mobile at home ?

There is rabbit calici disease in NZ, so Bugs Bunny is well advised to be immunised for rcd if he were to visit these shores.

Believe me, if I could come down for a vacation the only piece of technology I'd be bringing would be my camera gear and a boat load of memory cards so the computer could stay states side.

A friend is in the final stage of financing for a new media start up that would have us traveling to Ireland, Spain, New Zealand, and possibly either Bulgaria or Yemen next year.

Thanks for the geekzone suggestion, I'll look around over there, but with there being Vodafone services the 4g service should be LTE, its just a matter of when it would roll out (its a race for providers here states side to make it happen, not sure how competitive/high demand cellular data technologies are down there).

Hi everybody,

I passed my engineer degree with success 3 weeks ago, which is an important step for my professionnal career.

Now, I spend a lot of time to organize my travel to NZ and especially in motorsport.
Like you said, it's difficult to find any paying job in rally in NZ, so I have a proposition which can interested some teams maybe: If it's possible I can follow a team and help as much as possible as a volunteer.
In this way, I will continu to learn skills in motorsport, discover rally in NZ, meet a lot of people in this field.

The hard work now is to find the best place in NZ to work and for rally: everything is beautiful !
I think Auckland and Wellington are the best place to find any job because of their size and population. But I'm not a big fan of big city, 5 years in Paris when you are from mountains is really hard !
Moreover I want to fly to NZ to live close to the nature not in a big town.

So as a "Kiwi" you can maybe give me some advice and good place to live.

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I didn't read this topic.

So, to give you some news about my trip to NZ, I will arrived the 16th of February in Auckland to start my new life ;)

At this time, I don't know how long I will stay in Auckland: it will depends on job opportunities, place to live and of course how I feel there.

I didn't search any roommate opportunities yet because a friend of mine who lived there 2 years, said that it's better to search something 2 weeks before the flight, to be sure to have something.
Anyway, If you have some advices, don't hesistate to post this here ;)

Moreover, does anybody know some team near Auckland ? In rally or V8 maybe ? I know that most of the events are in the North Island so Auckland might be the perfect place.

At the beginning, it would be a volunteer job, to know each other, learn the job and meet people there. I really dream to work in motorsport in NZ, I have a great experience in it.

Well, one month left before leaving France, last Monte Carlo next week and an other rally as a codriver after. Perfect way to say goodbye !

It is not easy going from a big place like Europe to a distant small labour market, as in NZ. I have a friend here in Australia, who after working for Toyota Team Europe, found it hard to find paid work back here. He was badly burnt by the experience of working for a V8 Supercar team and was considered over skilled for many regular mechanical engineering jobs. Now he is maintaining cars in a stunt show at an Australian theme park.

Just do not give up hope. Expect to have motorsport engineering as a hobby for the most part in the beggining and enjoy the sporting and social nature of it all. Once the links are made, you will get the chances to do other things. Goodness knows, I never expected myself to have done what I have done in my life and with the sport. Do not forget to try to keep September free and vacant for a trip to Australia for the WRC. The Tasman Sea is a small lake to cross for many of us Aussies and Kiwis following our beloved sport.

I don't care to make an engineering job or not in NZ, I want to go there to discover the country, the culture, the people, your way of life. I want to enjoy this trip (or more ?) as much as possible and as a big huge rally fan, I want to learn how it works in the other side of the world. So as a hobby it will be perfect !

And for your last part, take September free to see the WRC in Australia, I totally agree about this, it is almost plan in my mind !

This is a body that enforces the current rules for all NZ Championship classes and general Schedule A (safety).

Hi guys,

I was finally arrived in Auckland 3 days ago, great city and warm weather (31h ago 5° in Nice !).
With my brother we plan to stay until Thursday, time to realize where we are :)
I'm disppointed that nobody answer to my email, the opportunities were really interesting anyway.

To enjoy our trip during 1 year, we need to work so we will plan to go to Bay of Plenty for the kiwi picking jobs during autumn, if you have any contacts for part time jobs, tell us ;)

I hope to see some rally and help teams, like I said, to improve my skills. If its possible I hope to see WRC Australia instead of WRC NZ cancelled this year :(
