I got rid of the game last year but got it again had forgotten how hard and great the game is and espically now with all the latest mods like being able to download the 2006 focus and impreza, and about another 120 cars its a great game and will go on for a while.

Anyone else have this game if so, can u post some set-ups just cant get the car rite and also the rsrbr4 mod how does this work does it work of the origional game, I downloaded the mod and cant get it to work.

This game is "rally perfection" but it has two problems:

1) not many stages
2) can't race online

But yes with the mods you can play all stages on tarmac, or the tarmac one on gravel. But in the end you drive on the same corners/ecc. =)

Yes ghostcars are fine... BUT ... is it 'real time' ? I mean, everybody starts in the same time etc. (like in CMR2 online or Trackmania that's it)

Yes there is a "real time" thingy done for RBR.. RBR.NET is it called.. and can be found here.. http://toca.game-editing.net/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=23

I saw a tutorial in YouTube for making new tracks ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=xXJJEeb0yfc ), but do you know which program he is actually using to build the track ot this is some kind of a patch?

Lalo
6th September 2007, 04:49
I don't know which program is (can't get to read it), but making a track doesn't look so hard after you watch the tutorial. It's prety easy to make 'em, at least the track (not the enviroment). It's very cool! :)

I've just got back in a RBR car after 8 months without driving. I must recognice that the physics of the game are great, the bests ever created in my opinion. For now, I'm just unlocking the cars and the tracks in order to get ready for a possible incoming RBR championship. After just 25 minutes of getting back to grips again (doing it begining a new championship in an Impreza, running in UK after passing the basic driving skills school), I won the rally in the hardest mode. Normally, it's a piece of cake, but driving without crashing at all (I don't like to reload if I crash) and trying to get a good result. After a couple of kilometers, it felt good again, even running half of the rally on rain.

I still have to run (and win, of course) the remaining rallyes of the game. But there's only one more doubt in my head...

Whose in for a championship?? Can anybody take care of the numbers while we tackle the stages?

I can't wait, really. Now that I'm getting back in this magnificent game, I feel just as Colin McRae did in Wales Rally GB of 2005 (R.I.P. "Beef") when he got behind the wheel of a Fabia after almost a year without driving in the WRC.

Reading your comments, could I get an opinion on whether you think I should buy Richard Burns rally on PS2, on PC or Colin McRae Rally 2005 on PS2 or PC?

PuddleJumper
18th September 2007, 11:46
If you want a rally simulator, you should go with Richard Burns Rally, but be warned, it's not something you can just pick up and play with immediate success. You need to learn how to control the car and it takes time, but the end result is very satisfying. Richard's rally school is excellent, and it prepares you well for battle on the stages.

As for whether you choose PC or PS2, it's dependent on your system. If your PC is up to spec, go for it, because there is a large number of new car skins and stage mods available, which will further increase your enjoyment. If like me your PC is steam-powered, go for the PS2 version.

It means your graphics card doesn't support pixel shaders, so it's not up to the job, therefore you wouldn't have been able to play. :( :(

After clicking on RBR > Cars > Impreza 00 (or other) > textures do you then replace the .dds files? Which ones?

Will L
3rd October 2007, 23:02
Look at the readme file.

If there isn't one, download from bhmotorsports.com in the future.

I'm not really sure tbh, really sorry. :( But I think you add the downloaded cars folder (eg. "Subaru_Impreza_2007" into the "Cars" folder in the RBR Directory.

Then in the cars folder you need to edit a certain .ini file, so the textures are correct and the location lines relate to where the texture files are, so in this case (="Cars/Subaru_Impreza_2007")

Or that's what I think you do. I'm not sure. :/

I tried saving the Mitsubishi Lancer evoVII group N (1.0) at http://www.bhmotorsports.com/download/11648

I saved it simply in the car folders, but it is a RAR file and I don't know what to do with it. When I click on it it doesn't open, and I don't know what to do.

Also, I found an .ini file, but don't know how to edit it.

Help please!!

First of all go Google and type in WinRAR - then you can get the program to unpack the files and you will have a readme in there somewhere to help you along. ;)

Be damned if I can find it but there is a mod program you can download at BHM that allows you to install the extra cars yet keep all the origonal physics files for the impreza intact (This seems to be the car all the new cars were modelled on) by having two seperate ways to start up RBR.. iirc. In saying that.. I did have problems getting it to work well.

If you cant find it.. hopefully someone will point u in the right direction if you ask them nicely.

Btw.. Are you using a wheel for this? If so.. there are some changes you will have to make to the standard settings before it will work well..

PM me if u need any help in this regard..

Seems to have changed since I last looked... try the RSRBR III mod downloadable from this page http://www.bhmotorsports.com/RBR/downloads/1191 Has all the tracks and surface options for each, many carpacks and has its own interface.

Aparantly they are working on RSRBR IV but the page wouldnt open for me for some reason.

Have a look on the BH Motorsports website for the latest version of the Ford Focus WRC 2006. That comes with a read me which includes full instructions on how to install the car. That should give you a basic understanding of how things work for any other downloads that don't come with a read me.

Would strongly recommend making a back-up of files before over-writing so you can quickly put things back to how they were should something not work as expected.

I'm glad someone mentioned the RBR Czech site here http://rbr.onlineracing.cz/?setlng=eng cos I'm there quite often. Its plugin tournament system is one of the best online rallying formats I've seen around. In short its brilliant. I'm glad that they're now supporting the S2000 cars too.

On the subject of adding new cars it works like this, if you want to add in cars without having to run RSRBR and mods like that, i.e just click the main RBR.exe file and play the game as is but with the new cars. For eg. if you want to play the RBR Czech site stuff you need to download the cars and physics from their site (they have tons!). You install them each like this:

1) Unpack the car model files into the "cars" directory of RBR.
2) Look in the readme file of the model that you downloaded, it should state something about opening cars.ini (also found the the RBR/Cars directory) and editing some lines from X to Y, it normally looks something like this: [Car02]
FileName = "Cars\zr\zr.sgc"
IniFile = "Cars\zr\zr.ini"
ShaderFile = "Cars\zr\zr_shaders.ini"
ShaderSettings = "Cars\zr\zr_shader_settings"
TexturePath = "Cars\zr\Textures\"

You have to change it with this:

[Car02]
FileName = "Cars\Polo_s1600\Polo_s1600.sgc"
IniFile = "Cars\Polo_s1600\Polo_s1600.ini"
ShaderFile = "Cars\Polo_s1600\Polo_s1600_shaders.ini"
ShaderSettings = "Cars\Polo_s1600\Polo_s1600_shader_settings"
TexturePath = "Cars\Polo_s1600\Textures\"
3) follow the instructions (its a copy and paste exercise), however you dont need to replace the specific car they've stated you must replace (the above example shows you replacing the MG with the S1600 Polo, but I actually replaced the Hyundai Accent with this car).
4) You should have downloaded the physics for this car as well. Unpack them somewhere (anywhere, doesn't really matter, you can delete them after this process). Now find physics.rbr in the main RBR directory and open it with winrar. Your unpacked physics folder should contain a directory called "h_accent" or "m_lancer" or something like that. In our case above you are replacing the MG, so the unpacked folder should be "mg_zr". Just delete this out of the physics.rbr file and then click on "add" in winrar and find the unpacked physics folder and click ok. It now adds it to the winrar file and you then just close the file and it saves automatically. If you did like me and replaced the Hyundai, then just change the name of the unpacked physics folder from "mg_zr" to "h_accent" and then put it in the physics.rbr file and its done! (when changing to a different car and not sure what to call the folder, just look in the physics.rbr file and see what that car is called).
5) In the case of this example, start RBR, selet the MG (or in my case the Accent) and start a stage, and bingo sitting there will be a bright shiny new Polo or whatever the heck you chose! =D

Just a word of warning for those using RSRBR IV and other mods of that type - after doing the above process for all the cars you want to add, backup or save the cars.ini file (found in the Cars directory of RBR) and the physics.rbr file into a seperate folder, because when RSRBR unpacks its mods it returns the game back to its original state, which means overwriting those particular files and you'd have to start all over again! Rather just back them up so you can copy them in again afterwards.

I don't get to play much, I haven't even got through all the RBR stages, but I'm wondering why we don't have a RBR championship here in the forum, seeing that it's one of the more realistic game.

Bruce D
24th May 2008, 07:53
Well I think it would be pretty easy to do if you ran it through something like the RBR Czech site's plugin system, that way you dont have to worry about "cheats" everyone is forced to be on the same playing field and the results are done for everyone to see. I'm not sure how you'd get the PS2 guys into it though.

Bruce D

Probably not, although with its hard drive system I suppose there isn't any real reason why not, but I haven't heard of any of the consoles getting add-ons.

The reason is because for Xbox you don't install the game onto the Xboxs harddrive therefore your not extracting the files which can be altered as on the PC.

Since downloading the RSRBR 4 mod, the game has been given a new lease of life for me... especially with the rallycross version of the Focus 06, It doesnt quite feel as powerful as its quoted 650 BHP figures but its still superb, gives its handling and all the stages a totally new dimension.

Ive managed an untidy, mistake ridden 3:13 on Chirdonhead on the standard set-up with scope for much more improvement... if only I was good at setting the car up.
Does anyone have any good gravel set-ups for this car/stage, they can share?

Also What cars do you find to be the best? Of the vanilla cars.. mine are the 206 and the Corolla.
Of the modded cars... the Focus 06 Rallycross then the C4 Rallycross.

Any others u recomend I download?

Bruce D
23rd June 2008, 20:46
Hmm, well seen as you like the big powerful stuff I'm not sure. I've taken a big fancy to the VW Polo S2000 car but thats cos S2000 rallying is huge here so they are popular and I enjoy them quite a lot, but the lack of torque out of slow turns might tick you off a bit. RSRBR is the best versions available that I've seen.

Its a proper sim.. where as the McRae games are better described as arcade...
The handling and physics in RBR are top-notch imo.. to get the best from the game you really need a Wheel and pedal set.. and preferably a force-feedback equiped one so you can feel the grip levels.
If you are using a wheel and pedal set-up you might not have it set-up correctly, you need to adjust the default filter settings to make the steering and throttle/brake function properly with no delay... something a lot of people aren't aware of and which often makes them think that the cars are undrivable.

I only ever play the CMR games when my son wants to race me... RBR really is that good.

It costs a lot more, but let me tell you, don't bother with anything else but the Logitech G25! Everything else is a waste of money!

My G25 recently had a electrical calibration failure (let me tell you, this wheel is SO strong that electrical glitches are the only thing that could go wrong), so I had to revert back to my Logitech Force GP wheel for 2 weeks while the G25 was replaced. However, I played GTR2 just once and thought it was so bad that I never touched another racing game again for the 2 weeks waiting for the real deal to return. The G25 is THAT good... =D

Not a very high spec atall but its not a very demanding game, assuming your using XP, would run it at med res I'd have thought. (ignore Daniel he's a PC snob :p )

To run this game at full res and speed, Go for minimum of 1 gb of RAM ideally 1.5 or 2 gb, and a 256Meg graphics card.

2.6 Ghz processor would be powerful enough.

That will probably play RBR and if that's all you want it for then I guess it's a great purchase but if you're going to want to play any games which have been made in the last couple of years it'll be woefully inadequate :(

I just went onto Ebuyer and specced a PC for £280 with a much better processor, 2gb of RAM, a 512mb graphics card and everything else you need other than an Operating system (£50 for Vista basic) for £280 shipped to your doorstep. You could probably find things a little cheaper and get it for all under £300 or thereabouts. Find a friend who can build PC's and buy him a few beers or a fanta or two if you're a young'un as I suspect you are ( :p ) and he or she will probably be happy to build it for you for free

You'll then have something which will more than happily run RBR and it will last you for a few more years as opposed to the PC World PC you posted which will feel pretty slow pretty soon :) Sure £170 seems like a big difference but if it lasts 4 years then it'll be worth it as you'll be spending another £130 on another PC in a year or two's time to replace the slowish one you bought now.

I see you posted a PC that's worth almost £400. If you have a budget of £400 then you can get something pretty nice that will be able to play some nice new games :) Tell us what's the absolute maximum you want to spend and I'll spec you up a nice system and if you have a friend who can help build it for you you'll be a happy bunny :up:

Again, thanks for everything. You're right - Fanta's would be more appropriate at my age!

The price range is 350 up to 400 if I put some money in myself (parents paying for most!). If you could find something that'd be great - I'm having no luck!

What I will say is that I dont know anyone who could build a PC even with parts, so a ready ,made system would be preferable.
All I would buy is games like RBR, and possibly CMR Dirt, although the more games it could play, the merrier.

Aldi PC's (Medion) are woefully bad. Yes the specs will look quite good but it will be noisy, cheaply made and won't have as good a warranty as one you get built from parts. I'd reccomend a Dell over a Medion any day of the week :)

Someone who works with Caroline bought one of the fancy ones with a Quad Core CPU and lots of RAM and so on and it was very very slow and also rather noisy. It was taken back to the store within hours.

My dad has had a Medion for a couple of years. Nothing wrong with it.

My friend has had 3 Dells in that time. All of them broke down.

What graphics settings are you running and what card? I know that RBR has an issue with ATI cards when you run the game on "high" graphics settings. I used to always get crashes and hanging until I dropped it down to the lower graphics setting. There really isn't all that much difference in looks so its no great loss. Try that first.

Ah I forgot you're an expert with these things :) Working in the IT industry for 5 odd years and so on must make you an expert in these things :up:

You take your photography pretty serious right? Would you go to Tesco or Aldi and buy a fairly no-name brand of lens? It's the same with PC's even if you don't recognise it :)

Nope, not an expert at all, nor do I work in the IT industry. I am simply trying to give a balanced view as a consumer who has experience with the brands being talked about, and in my view, Medion PCs are acceptable machines for people wanting an above average specification with a limited budget. I am not denying that there are better PCs available, but if you don't have the money, there are alternatives.

As Bruce D suggested, sounds like you need to tweak your graphics settings. I've not had any issues with RBR, but I remember CMR2 used to crash mid-stage on my old PC and that was something to do with shadowing. Try running it with the graphics quality at low, particles off, and reflections and shadows off. If that gets it all working, try changing each one separately and trying again until it crashes again.

Persevere - it'll be worth it to drive with the G25.

Not sure what else I can do :confused: My PC hasn't changed at all :s

I agree, my last PC was a Medion... cheap and cheerfull it might have been but there was nothing wrong with it as a foundation on which to build... after a few years I decided to upgrade it to be able to play more modern games. The Upgrades consisted of a more powerfull graphics card, an SB audigy 2ZS soundcard with the drivebay slot connections interface, an additional 1gb of Ram, an additional fan, a higher wattage power supply (to power new graphics).. it was quite a capable machine with pretty decent benchmark scores and I never had any problems with it at any time before or after the upgrades.

Ended up building the new PC I have now simply because I wanted to change to PCI-E for futureproofing and sold my Medion for almost the same price as It cost to build my new one!

Still no resolution to my problems.... no log notes listed at all for it so I am still none the wiser as to what is causing it to crash :s It does seem to be doing it randomly, although it has done it a couple of times in the menus and it has stuttered a wee bit before crashing a couple of seconds later :(

But anyway, to hell with it, I have ordered a G25 which should be delivered tomorrow :D Will probably try reformatting my PC and reinstalling windows in the near future, that usually clears up anything like this... (I hope!)

The games default control set-up isnt compatible with wheels/pedals, Sounds like you need to change the digital filter/throttles ramp curve in RBR.... OR... in the G25's control software.

I had it installed a while ago. Whilst it is good fun, I think it is just to do with the setup that makes it "RWD". Tyre pressure, brake balance etc.

Zico I just noticed your post there, will have a look over Christmas. It is just about fine ont he more open stages (GB, US, Australia), but on Japan it is nearly impossible to drive :s

Also, someone on the BATracer forum just pointed this out to me:

http://www.virtualr.net/rsrbr-2009-released/

This is my first news item on Richard Burns Rally at it’s a rather significant one as a brand new version of the massive RSRBR addon has been released.
Released in 2004, Richard Burns Rally is still the definite rally simulation and RSRBR brings a major overhaul to the sim. The 900mb package includes new cars, textures, physics, a new night mode and much more, you can find a detailed feature list below.
If you have an old RBR disc collecting dust somewhere, now is the time to fire it up again as the almost five year old sim is still going strong - Thanks to the active modding community.
Features:
- New textures on tracks: France “Tarmac” & “Snow”, Finland “Tarmac”, England “Tarmac”, MineShaft “Gravel”.
- Integration of the “Night mod”.
- Modification of the grip of special for more reality.
- Modification of 90% (approximately) of the physics of the cars, always for more reality.
- Management of the damages (accumulation of the damages between two tracks of the championship).
- Integration of Opel Corsa s1600.
- Integration of Citroėn C4 2008.
- New 3D for : 207 s2000 & Lancer EVO9
- New version of Skin Manager with a wizard for creating self-extracting archives skins.
- New interface (RSCenter) to replace RSNetwork08.exe & RSRBR08.exe, of course with news.
- New Track SS18

I've got myself hooked on RBR again the last couple of weeks and have even bettered some times I thought I would never improve upon. A makeover patch for the French stages gives them a new edge - autumn textures giving a distinct Sanremo feel. Also released just last week was a semi-complete Mitsubishi Lancer WRC. The creator has been unable to finish the project, but the car is fully driveable (it's missing a damage model and a few other tweaks) and already new skins are appearing for it, like Armindo Araujo's Portugal 2007 livery.

It's really straight forward if you have modified audio before. I'll try to explain what I understand from the video(I use the other Phil Mills mod).
First you copy dattool to root directory of RBR(Richard Burns Rally).
Now drop audio.dat into dattool. It should unpack it into something like Audio/C#/Projects....
Navigate to Audio folder inside Audio folder.
Extract zip file to the Audio folder and there should be few overwrite warnings and say yes to them.
Now change audio.dat filename or delete it because this won't allow dattool to pack the folder back up (I recommend changing the file name).
Drop the Audio folder in the RBR root back into dattool. It should pack it into new audio.dat.
Next step is to change ingame pacenotes language to french.
That should be all. I tried to explain it as best as I could.

Here is the latest WIP of my first stage for RBR made in Bobs track builder. It's called Ambrosian hills and is packed ready to play in RSRBR, just put the .7z file into your RXRSRBR folder. It's 12.2km on tarmac and about 80% complete. There are a few places where the framerate drops which I'm working on and I need to do some more work on terrain and objects. Any feedback is welcome.

I've tried to try it out but with no success. I'm using RSRBR '10 and when I try to launch it, it starts Kaihuavaara with Lancer WR car. It also unpacked the *.7z file to the root directory as "Ambrosian hills WIP" as the folder, maybe there's the problem.
But as far as the video goes, it seems to be fast and interesting track to say the least. Will look forward to the completed stage.

I'm not sure why that happens but it happened to me and I found that my RX_CONTENT folder had disappeared so that the only plug in seen by RBR was the test plug in and at first I couldn't get it to work in RSRBR but I found that re-exporting it from BTB did the trick but I suppose that isn't a lot of use if you don't have BTB. Incidentally, I use RSRBR2009 so I don't know if 2010 handles BTB tracks differently. Thanks for looking

I wrote it because I'm rubbish on tarmac and wanted a practice track then the idea grew. I can't drive a wrc car round it without crashing multiple times so I've been using the Lada out of the N4/s2000 pack :)

As I have said earlier it is a good stage with good technical bits. I've tried it out with S12 Subie and I think it feels more at home on it than S14 did when I tested previous version of the stage. Though at the moment I can't say how the stage is at full speed because I had to use gamepad and I'm not very good with it. Feels like a proper rally stage, good work!!!

Sperger, tried your stage last night. Very good, with some interesting sections. I do have a problem with that mound in the middle of the road, I think it's too pronounced for a tar road, which also makes braking very difficult. I thought the notes were pretty good too. After lots of spins and offs I managed a 8:38, but I'm thinking a good time would be a early 7min, maybe even a sub 7min time.

I thought it would make a great gravel stage too.

Thanks for trying my stage.

Bruce. I agree that the camber is a bit much for tarmac road. I'm going to lower it for the final release. I had thought about converting it to gravel. I've been trying to think iof a way to do it without having to completely re-write the track. I think the tarmac road is a bit too wide as it stands for conversion and wierd things start to happen when you alter the width after the terrain has been added. I'll give it a go and see how it ends up.

make sure you update it with the patch (1.2 I think) as as soon as you get it because it enables you to change some settings that are quite useful to have access to. Also I run Vista not 7 but I found that it didn't like DX10 on my system so I use DX9 with a switcher program (can't remember what it's called but it automatically chooses DX9 for RBR) it might also be best to set compatability to XP as well. If you use a wheel have a look at BHMS for really good advice about wheel setups. Good luck with it, it's totally different to the CMR series less flashy graphically but much better to drive when you get used to the 'very' twitchy cars

I don't think there is Bruce because I think with the czech system that the stages are locked to be played in online tournaments only. I don't know what you actually download from them because I've never done it myself. If you have a look on the RSRBR forum you will see that there has been a row going on for a while because someone changed or re-used some parts of the Pribram track so they are refusing to share their tracks now. I can understand the creator being a bit P'd off but I don't understand why they completely took their ball in. There are a lot of good tracks in production at the moment which will be released generally so at least we have something to look forward to.

I've downloaded the stages before but they don't come up in the menu's until you go online, but that was because they were made with 3DsMax but BTB stages should work if you put them in the plugin. Mind you, RBRCzech has their own installation file system.

Question: can anybody recommend some mod or plugin which makes downloading cars/physics etc handier?

I remember I used to always do it manually by downloading a zip file with all of the components for car installation. Then, you had to replace the words in the cars.ini file and there was a lot of room for error, particularly with the physics.rbz file which was hard to replace. Or something along those lines :confused:

As I say, I haven't played RBR in a while and, with a completely clear game (no add-ons - just the original game) I want to keep it neat and tidy. :)

Driving the new Audi Quattro S1 last night in RBR. This is on Frazier Wells, taken at 217km/h! Anyone driven this car yet? Absolutely epic to drive. Was trying it on the tar stages and you can get massive wheelspin out of the hairpins, you have to feather the throttle coming out. Also any crest gets the revs rising - truly a great car to drive.

Big news.

It looks like the only way anyone can drive the Greenhills stage is now on RBR as the earthmovers are in there now starting on a new suburb.

We ran the stage twice on Saturday in our local rally, it was the best it's been for a long time. Going to miss the Pipeline section.

I have mapped the stage and taken heaps of video footage, now to get into BTB and create the real Greenhills as it was run in it's final rally.

Also, do I need to register with RSRBR2010 Live as it says on the RSCentre index? When I tried, it said that it couldn't add me, then when I tried again it said that I have to choose another email address.

Have you installed RBR game updates?! Not the RSRBR ones but there are two official updates for the game you must have installed before adding the RSRBR addons.

You can get both on the official game site ;) .

And Im not sure but I think that before they able you to play you need to register on RSRBR,sometimes the problem with registration is your number, choose a random one.

I got it working by the way - menu pics match the cars inside now.

Just out of interest, what is everyone's times on the Rally School stage? Until yesterday I couldn't beat 1:14, then I played today and suddenly I got a 1:09.11! This is with a Focus 2006. I have no idea what happened but if my memory serves me right, under 1:10 is very fast. Very surprising as all my other times seem annoyingly slow...
