While standing in a very crowded Metro car, 2 men of Middle East appearance gave me a big smile. Then suddenly, one of them knelt down and began smacking my calf repeatedly and would not stop. At the next station he got up and got off with his mate.
It was only afterwards that I realised that I was a target for two clever pick-pocketers with one distracting me in an outrageously manner while the other tried my back pocket.
Luckily my passport and walet was zipped up in an inner jacket pocket which was then securely covered by another zipped up and buttoned outer jacket (it was cold in Paris).
So be warned about this new and cunning technique.
