I am coming to San Remo this year. Is there a website or itinerary posted anywhere? Perhaps some pointers for easily accessable stages.
I have a villa in Castellina in Chianti, Tuscany. How long will it take to drive to the rally?

As far as I can see the stages will be the same as last year (rally timetable is virtually identical)
so this link will give some good indication

I really can't see why it's too early for maps. It's only 8 weeks out and the roads must be locked in and the information public by now.

One phrase - Programme sales. The later the stages are publicly known the greater the 5-euro per book income.

In my country they always reveal maps late because they don't want both illegal recce of crews and crazy driving of media/spectators through. That makes organizers problems with getting permissions for next years. It's especially important in case of private roads.
J4MIE
27th July 2010, 13:18
....and they are Italian you know ;)
Seriously though, even getting the information a couple of days before the event is fine I'd say. Mostly the same roads are used so there can't really be too much variation.

Over here we don't have that issue at all. There are heavy penalties applied to competitors who are found driving the rally route even as a course of daily routine without permission so it generally doesn't happen. And media/spectators are not a problem.
With my own national series event we publish the routeas early as we possibly can - for this year's event 3 months prior. It allows poeple to plan, whether they be competitors, spectators, landowners or other regular road users.

I am a part of organisation so I can say the situation from my point of view. Of course, in every country is difficult situation. We dont have so big problems with illegal recce like for example in Belgium, but we have lot of problems with normal spectators and "journalists+photographers", who are doing the stages many days/weeks ago and they are making big problems. For sure, people in the village know in time, that their village or some roads will be closed for sure.

Two DS3s ???? Very interesting
Then there will be good news. Beautiful, large and certainly much admired: the new Citroen DS3 R group, is the last born of the House of "double chevron"weaned recently and already a winner in the category. The lead in race two, with a touch of pride "national" will follow the events dell'aostano Elwis Chentre (who previously ran the tricolor with the Peugeot 207 S2000) and the young Frenchman Mathieu Arzeno. So this is a compelling mix of sport and technology that looks to the near future.

Sulland
18th September 2010, 12:22
So are the seeding rules different for IRC, ERC and the Italian series, and could that be the reason - it is a mix ?
wwbroe
18th September 2010, 12:45
Even if IRC is not a FIA championship, i still think they should let guys like Loix, Magalhaes and Bouffier start more in front, let's say around number 8 to 12. I don't understand why they let Panizzi, who hasn't been driving a car in competition for ages, start in front. Alltough i understand they want to promote the all new Citroen DS3 R3, i still don't think it is normal start position for Chentre either. How many car will start at two minutes interval? Because if they start at one minute interval, it might give serious problems in startfield. :(
I also forget to mention Wilks & Neuville, they also have bad startingnumbers.

12.3.1
Start of Section 1 - 2 will be given according to racing numbers, the lower racing number will start first, with the exception
of different decisions taken by the Stewards of the Meeting. The start of the Sections 5 and 6 will be given according to day 2 starting list. The interval between FIA priority drivers will be 2 minutes and between all other drivers 1 minute.
12.3.2 The starting order for Sections 3 and 4 will be established according to the general classification after Section 2.
The Clerk of the Course, after talking with the Stewards, will be allowed to re-locate crews that have been considered in an anomalous position. All FIA priority drivers will always start with 2 minutes intervals.
Agree some of the seeding is a bit weird, maybe the order will be changed to suit by the organisers before the start. But looks a great entry list

J4MIE
18th September 2010, 23:15
True but isn't seeding done by previous results, rather than "speed" which is very open to interpretation? I'm sure if there is a real case for it then it will be sorted out, these organisers are not new to the sport :)
Mirek
18th September 2010, 23:49
I agree that they are not new but when they seeded this, they had to smoke something really strong (Bouffier behind Signor, Wilks behind Sottile with R3, Loix behind Perico and Chentre with R3, Arzeno behind all R3 except Fiat 500 cup and starting after Puskady etc.). The problem is that there is 40 km long night stage where in all these cases overtaking is more than sure.
pucky54
19th September 2010, 00:00
yes, the seeding is not the best thats for sure. May be they will change the starting order, but if not there is only one thing that is better. In the dark you can better notice when a car is behind you because of the lights

12.3 Starting Order – Intervals
12.3.1 Start of Section 1 - 2 and 5 will be given according to racing numbers, the lower racing
number will start first, with the exception of different decisions taken by the Stewards of
the Meeting. The interval between FIA priority drivers will be 2 minutes and between all
other drivers 1 minute.
12.3.2 The starting order for Sections 3 and 4 will be established according to the general
classification after Section. 2 and 3.
The Clerk of the Course, after talking with the Stewards, will be allowed to re-locate
crews that have been considered in an anomalous position. All FIA priority drivers will
always start with 2 minutes intervals
But I don't understand why start of section 5 will be given according to racing numbers...

Meeke or Freddy to win and Hanninen to finish where...or not to finish?
N.O.T
21st September 2010, 11:25
hmmm meeke i think is out of contention under normal circumstances....the ideal would be kopecky winnng...haninnen out and Loix between 2nd and 3rd
meeke is 34 points behind leader hanninen so no title hopes....if hanninen (62 points) contests all of the remaining rounds.
Kopecky has 48 points and Loix 30...
the winner gets 10 points....
but you count only the 7 best results out of 12.....

Well known place are:
Borello access where you can watch s.s. 1-3 and 6;
Passo Ghimbegna where, walking for a few hundreds of meters, you can see the start of s.s. 2, the end of s.s.4 and s.s.6
Apricale: tight hairpin in the town (s.s. 4 and 6).
For day 2, Passo Teglia (s.s. 8-11) is a wonderful place but you have to go before they close the road. Otherwise i suggest you San Bernardo di Conio (s.s. 8-11) where you can find a nice inversion.

Suppose better late than never but the press article sounds more like a sales promotion than anything (but I suppose it has to). Most of these upgrades were supposed to be in place before Ypres on the cars, well at least on Meeke's car.
Let's hope they work well enough (think Meeke and Sarrazin tested these earlier this month) that Skoda will at least have some opposition and make things more interesting for us.

Hanninen 62 points out of 8 resuslts - best 7 results:56 points
his worst point result is 3rd, so he only scores points with 2nd places.
Kopecky 47 points out of 7 results - worst point result is 5th
Meeke, Wilks and Loix have to win Sanremo, Scotland and Cyprus, with Hanninen not higher then 3rd
Hanninen 56 (has to do beter then 6 points )
Kopecky 47(has to do better then 4 points)

Hanninen after 3ss in front of all Italians in asphalt. Before two years this would be a joke.Really impressive his progress in asphalt for a Fin guy.

Did Meeke say he lost the brakes in SS3? Makes a stage win all the more impressive.

It seems that Juho is the third Finn that can drive also on tarmac. The two other was IMO Henri Toivonen and Tommi Mäkinen.
If the rally continues like this there’s going be tight fights.

I'm a bit disappointment over the pace of Navarra, Longhi, Travaglia and U.Scandola-we must be awere that those are drivers who knew this stages very well, but their gap is already 30 or even more seconds...Let's hope that they will use their knowledge on the night stage...
But no such worries for Andreucci&Basso&Rossetti-they are all in the striking distance.....
Not to forget-brilliant performance from Elwis Chentre with new DS3 R3T !!! He has a big fight with sandro Sottile, who is absolute favorite in front driven class!! All bunch of Clio's R3 are behind new DS3 R3T !!! There are definitely some serious faces in the Renault camp at the service point. Yust push Elwis, yust push...
What is the weather forecast for this evening???

They drove SS2 in rain, Chentre not. Some of them like Ferrari were faster on SS1, some where stucked there after Botta's accident. They hasn't driven SS3 yet...

Lets see if the Eurosport broadcast will be on time. There’s again snooker before IRC and it means IRC could be delayed.

"There will be only one Service Park for the entire duration of the rally located in Sanremo - Lungomare Italo
Calvino, Piazzale Carlo Dapporto and Corso Nazario Sauro."

I think it was raining on the lower parts of the Ronde stage, tyre choice is going to be crucial.
