From Crash.Net

Fans of the WRC will get a chance to go 'behind-the-scenes' later this month, when the Discovery Channel begins screening a documentary series focusing on 2006 and the trials and tribulations suffered by the Subaru World Rally team.

"‘Engineering the World Rally' joins the Subaru WRT as they and their driver, Petter Solberg, fight for the championship. With exclusive behind-the-scenes access for an entire season, this six-part series provides a unique insight into the deeply secretive world of big budget motorsport, getting under the skin of the British-run Subaru World Rally Team and following their every move as they prepare the cars for each event, test and shakedown," read a statement from the producers.

"What unfolds is a rollercoaster of action both behind-the-scenes and on the rally stage as they endure the worst year they've ever had. Driver issues, endless car trouble and pure bad luck sees them constantly fighting to keep pace with their rivals.

"'Engineering The World Rally' is there every step of the way as the team enjoy the high points - as they valiantly fight for small triumphs - and endure the low points that really test their resilience.

"Added to the mix is gripping action and, of course, wreckage, as well as insightful facts about how the cars are designed, built, tested and then kept on the road after the severe pounding they get every time the drivers take them out."

The first episode goes out on the Discovery Channel on Monday March 12, at 10.00 pm local time, one day after the Corona Rally Mexico, the fourth round in the 2007 FIA WRC, comes to a close.

I am afraid if this documentary will be screened really?

Otherwise we may discover the reality behind the lies of some people during their interviews in 2006?!

Discovery Channel in the US!? Wow, I must see this show even if I have to go through all the suffer of being a Subaru fan again.

It's good to see rallying is getting more and more attention in the U.S., largely thanx to Travis Pastrana. This was on Discovery Channel couple weeks ago, too :)

170 feet?

that's only 50 metres. surely the guys have topped that in Finland?

scoobysnips
2nd March 2007, 08:44
marrko martin, rally finland 2003, jumped 57 meters.

not to mention armin schwarz, rally portugal 2001, 73 meters!

Gard
2nd March 2007, 09:24
Atko did a 60m jump on ss9 in rally norway.

Yeah.

We ripped on it pretty good on the forums here in the US. It as decided that they meant longest air time, or ramp to ramp jump, or "gap jump" but not longest distance for a rally car to fly in the air.

He did only have to hit it at 60 mph afterall

SubaruNorway
2nd March 2007, 19:20
But anyway it's more impressive than doing 57m on Oninpojua

janneppi
2nd March 2007, 21:24
I disagree. :)
This was a one off jump with only one purpose, Märtins 170kph(100+mph), 57m jump while maybe not as high, was in the midst of a stage, with limited space to control the car before and after the jump. Markko didn't stop after the jump either, he went on finishing 5th(correct if wrong) on the stage.

SubaruNorway
2nd March 2007, 22:56
Ok, but i think it's a lot harder on the nerves gearing up for the jump keen Block did :)

An update and clarification on this show...

"Engineering the World Rally" is on Discovery UK (and probably other parts of Europe), but I don't think it will be broadcast on this side of the pond - at least, it doesn't appear in the American schedule.

Here is the Discovery page for the series:

To be honest, I respect Subaru for that.
As a person not involved directly in rally racing, this is great stuff and it makes me feel connected and part of what they do.
As for the people who want to keep the sport for themselfs, and keep everything secret

Hey guys, I run the wrc2007.ath.cx site. I just noticed these links being posted here when I was wondering why the traffic to my site all of a sudden spiked. :D These links came from a thread on a comment thread I would say from here (http://www.enormouslysideways.net/DoubleUAreSea/?p=7). It is a bit annoying people posting direct links like this but anyway, I have noticed a lot of people opening 5 or 6 connections to the server to download. Please don't do this, one download thread only (this means not using download accelerator programs and the like), the additional threads put more load on the server and will just result in the server getting shut down which no one wants. So guys hope you enjoy the episodes (haven't had a chance to watch them yet myself) and remember to be sensible when downloading. Thanks. :)

I think it's been done with a different codec. VLC media player is a free download and will play episode three fine.

Yeah, looking at episode 3 it is encoded with x264 so the easiest way to play it would be to use VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) which is completely free and a great player to use when you can't play a file with anything else.

Very nice series.

The only minor mistake I could find was in the episode of Germany and Finland. When the narrator introduces rally Finland, they show some footage of Finland 2005, but accidently also one clip of 307WRC in rally Japan.
