Unlike McLaren's system, Sauber has intake duct ontop the sidepod and exits onto the wing profile.

PDLR:

"Yeah - I knew a little bit about what McLaren was trying," he explained. "But this is a Sauber system. It is a different system."

"We have no testing, and this is the first opportunity we have to try it. We have to test it, make sure it works and then decide if it is raceable or not. We just have to have the patience to test it properly."

Either the team rely on a a puely aerodynamic way to control the rear wing stalling, such as the duct choking at high speed and cutting off the flow the slot. Or the duct merely adds mass flow to the exisiting blown slot (raced in Bahrain) to allow the wing to be run even steeper and create yet more downforce. We will need mor eimages to be sure what Sauber are trying here.

Thats some beauty of a patch job there.

Well I guess it can hardly make the Sauber any worse. Can it?

The second quote in your post is very interesting wedge.

The whole F Duct/McLaren situation is legal because the driver is the moveable aero device, but with this sauber system that doesn't seem to be the case. The choking theory seems likely.

What does the F stand for?

(Keep it clean ;) )

Is there an inlet on the right sidepod? Do we know if that inlet is actually linked to the rear wing? It really looks like its just the airbox pumping air into the rearwing.

Sauber F-duct

All I know is that the letter 'd' in duct is silent.

Nothing. It's descriptive of the shape of the duct - F

Millions spent on wind tunnel testing and computer flow dynanics and we are back to by guess and by gosh!
I did that over 40 years ago! :D

They won't allow that, it has movable wings of it's own accord. :D
