View Full Version : CMR2 WRC Round 2 Mexico

tannat
1st March 2010, 19:10
The WRC event rotation system meant Mexico was absent from last year's calendar, but it returns in 2010 amid a year long fiesta to mark the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution and the 200th anniversary of its independence.

The rally is a relative newcomer to the WRC calendar but has proved a popular addition since its debut in 2004, with a compact series of well-organised, high-speed gravel stages through the Sierra de Lobos and Sierra de Guanajuato mountains and the plains around the cities of Guanajuato, Leon and Silao.

The high-altitude stages make for spectacular viewing with a mixture of mountain peaks and flat open valleys. The altitude has downsides, though, as the engines struggle to breathe in the thin air and suffer a drop in power of about 20 per cent. The road surface is dry and sandy, but rocks can get on the road, so drivers have to balance high speeds with caution.

I hope we get at least 5. If not I have a possible idea. Instead of the traditional rally format, we could do the timings slightly different so that iot is more fun if only 3 of us compete. That would be to classify by the number of stage wins, rather than overall time. It would make it more of a shootout, and may encourage people to come if they don't have to do every stage, but could just do half and hope to win all of them.

Just a potential idea - may be a bit odd ;)

Times in - great to see 7 entries - almost a whole set of points!

Personally that has to be one of my greatest rallies. I may soon be proved otherwise, but that was one of my best all-round rallies - no mistakes except a small spin on SS9 which cost about 4 secs. Set 3 PBs, and romped through SS2 as fast as I ever could. Hopefully my optimism is well placed and another podium is on the cards. If not, then my hopes of ever competing on gravel will be dashed! Best of luck to all.

Day one of Rally Mexico saw Skoda Fabia driver rallyboy20 leap into a clear lead of nearly a minute over Rally Sweden winner PS29 in the Citroen. German driving the only S2000 class car in the field finished the day third ahead of the Subaru’s of Tannat and jso1985. Maxrally210 trailed jso1985 by just under seven seconds in the older Octavia while the Fords of JTLarsen and LCD rounded out the field.

The final day of the rally provided no surprises as most competitors held their positions. Rallyboy20 won comfortably with nearly a minute and a half over the Citroen of PS29. An inspired drive by Tannat with a bit of help from German enabled the Subaru driver to take the final podium spot. German was able to keep 4th just over ten seconds ahead of jso1985, himself just over ten seconds ahead of the Octavia of Maxrally210. JTlarsen proved to be the quicker Ford driver finishing ahead of LCD.

Thanks tannat for hosting again - of course I ws being sarcastic earlier ;) Looking forward to a mix of stages in Jordan.

Well rallied RallyBoy - how on earth did you manage a 1:01 on SS10?! I have since tried that over and over and can't beat the 1:04 barrier.
Well done all - very happy to be leading the championship - never done that for 2 rounds before. Never got a podium in Australia/Mexico before either. Hopefully I can fend off RallyBoy's attacks, and also German who seems to have a quick streak in him. Good to see a large amount of competitors too.
