Welcome to FGP for 2010! I hope this season will be a success and I have an announcement that should help everyone keep updated on FGP as the season progresses.

For those who are new to fantasy grand prix here is a brief synopsis of how it works:

You are the owner of a Formula One team with a budget of £48,000,000 for the 2010 season. To complete your team, you need to pick three drivers (two official drivers and a 3rd driver), a chassis and an engine. You must also pick a bonus GP which will score double points for your team at that race.

Points are awarded throughout the race weekend and are detailed below.

Only the first chassis and engine that crosses the line scores points for your team. Chassis scores are 1st-10th: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1. Engine scores are 1st-4th: 25-18-15-12.
Drivers points are the same as the chassis scores with two extras:
The pole position is rewarded with 2 extra points for the driver who obtains it. The fastest lap is rewarded with 1 extra point.

A race disqualification loses you all points for the disqualified driver/chassis/engine for that race weekend.

Whoever scores the most points wins the GP. I then total the points throughout the season and the team with the most points wins!

Once complete please choose a name for your team and then post your entry on the forum.

I also have an exciting announcement for this season:

We finally have a working website! (yay! :D ). Please point your browsers here: http://sites.google.com/site/2009fgp/

To find the price list and the complete rules please visit the website. If you look around you will notice the results from last season’s grand prix’s. These will be up until the start of the GP weekend in Bahrain, at which time I will erase them in order to make way for the 2010 season.

You have until the end of March 10th, 2010 to submit your team.
Good luck everyone!

I wanted to put this separate from the Welcoming post:

I run FGP according to what the FIA publishes. This means that if a driver or team gets a penalty that everyone dislikes I will still remove those points. I am consistent with FGP, even if the FIA sometimes is not. :)

Second - I know there are a lot of rumors about teams and their entries into F1. I also know that two teams are missing their second driver and one is in "danger" of losing his seat.

I go by the official FIA list for teams and the official announcement of driver signings by the teams. This way I can rule out speculation and confusion if something changes. For now the two missing drivers are listed as Campos - TBD and USF1 - TBD.

If/when these drivers are named these entries will be changed but that should not stop anyone from choosing them as the prices will not change.

Therefore, please do not ask to be allowed to choose a chassis for a team currently not in F1 for your fantasy team.

Also, please do not sign as your third driver anyone who may end up on a team as a racing driver before the season begins. I am primarily thinking of Christian Klien, Jacques Villeneuvue, and Ralf Schumacher.

If that person does get a race seat he will be worth more than 1 million and you would have to change your team's configuration; which might be a bad thing if we are near the deadline!

Thanks.

This year's team has been put together with the utmost thought given to planning and design.

After years of failure and also-rans such as MillionsF1, Arkansas Chugabug, and Mika Hakkinen Whoops, POS F1 sponsored by HP is moving into its second year of stability and competitiveness.

This seasons team will be a stark departure, not only from previosu years but from the other teams entered in this seasons FGP.

Without further adieu, here is the lineup for the 2010 edition of POS F1 sponsored by HP:

Our first driver is none other than Adrian Sutil, who came into his own last season and looks to be moving up in the FGP pecking order. (cost - 9 mill)

Our second driver is young Tonio Liuzzi, who showed good form for Force India last year and is looking to drive into the points this season. (cost - 6 mil)

POS' third and reserve driver is the talented Paul DiResta who claimed that "my first run in the new car was impressive" and he is stoked about POS' chance this season. )cost - 1 mil

The car itself was designed and built by the Red Bull Racing team, who finished runner up in 2009. They hope to move up one place in 2010. (cost - 20 mil)

Finally, the powerplant is the mighty Renault engine. Powering it's namesake team and the aforementioned Red Bull, the Renault engine is poised to blow away the competition in style this season. (cost - 12 mil)

There you have it. With Suzuka, Japan as our bonus GP, POS F1 sponsored by HP is looking to go better than last season because, anything is better than last!

Sutil
Liuzzi
Di Resta
Red Bull

Yeah, I knew that would happen since he is the cheapest out of the eight drivers in the "top four" teams. I though about putting Michael down there too but ultimately decided against it.

That is partly why I changed my team - too many teams had aleady chosen the driver/engine combo I wanted!

Bonus GP selection always fascinates me. While looking for duplicates I always sort by bonus GP and without giving too much away, here is a list of GPs that have yet to be selected:

Malaysia
China
Spain
Europe
South Korea
UAE

I'll give a list of all bonus GP's and their amounts once the entry date is past. I will also be keeping track on the website of who has used their bonus GP by means of the asterisk. You will see this on the standings page. Everyone with an asterisk next to their team name means they have not used their bonus GP.

COOL!

There is just one problem:

Your third driver must be anyone who is not on the price list (such as Nick Heidfeld, Fisi, Christian Klien, etc). This third driver costs 1,000,000, regardless of who you choose.

Please make that one small and you are all set.

Here is another interesting stat:

Out of the fifty two teams only eleven do not have Alonso or Massa as one of their race drivers.

No one choose HRT, of course, but not one team choose Virgin either. Three teams took a chance on Lotus.

Two choose STR and Sauber.
Three put faith in Renault.
Four choose Force India.
Five choose Williams.

Tons of people chose McLaren and Ferrari, as usual. :)
What is interesting is that the top two teams from last year were chosen only seven times.
None of those are Mercedes GP!

Why get a Mercedes GP chassis when a Mercedes engine will score as many points plus has multiple teams supporting it?

My original strategy was to get a Cosworth engine as a matter of quantity. This went out the window when things started to go bad for USF1 and Campos.

That is true. I just thought it was strange that no one choose the Mercedes Chassis.

This type of team could have been put together:

Kobayashi
Petrov
3rd driver
Mercedes GP
Mercedes
That equals 48. We could replace Kobayashi with Algeursuari too.
OR, we could have Liuzzi and Hulkenberg (still 48 total) instead of Kamui and Petrov.
Or de la Rosa and Hulkenberg (that = 47), or de la Rosa and Petrov (= 46) if we do not want to use all 10 "million" remaining.

Yeah, this team has midfield players at the best of times but it boasts what looks like a podium team in the former Brawn GP and the Mercedes engine, where you win regardless due to it powering two strong teams and one on the rise.

N. Jones
12th March 2010, 16:51
My original strategy was Ferrari drivers, Virgin, Mercedes. But too many people were taking the drivers I wanted and no one was taking Red Bull Renault, so I thought I would take a risk and go with total Force India drivers and Red Bull.

So far, looking just at practice, my chassis/engine curse is working it's magic on Red Bull!

I didn't count on the Saubers being unreliable, not with the Ferrari engines...last year the BMW squad wasn't quick enough but they weren't unreliable, but now they are.

6th April 2010, 12:05
Yeah, I expected at least regular points finishes from Sauber but, even when they finish, they don't have that pace they showed in winter testing. It was clearly a sponsorship-hunting tactic. I also expected more from Toro Rosso. In all fairness to them though, they have upped their game and I think they'll score more regularly by mid-season. The car seems competitive, the drivers just need a bit more experience. I'm obviously happy with Alonso and my Mercedes engines but the other two factors need to improve if he want to move up the leader-board.

6th April 2010, 16:32
With four teams regularly fighting for the podium and now Renault fighting to get there as well (or at least they are fighting for 4th-6th) it doesn't leave many high scoring places for the teams we had to choose to fill out our teams.

Force India, Williams, Sauber, and STR are all fighting for 7th-10th.

This makes it hard to find a consistent team, outside of choosing Ferrari or McLaren.

News results from team "INTO THE RED" 02-05-2010

After a surprisingly satisfying start to the season, we move onto Europe with the hope that we will keep pace at the front of the field.

Having used our home GP advantage in Melbourne, we know that certain teams will close the gap and possibly over take us on the top of the points list..

It's going to be a tight season with many teams involved for the fight for the number one spot.

This is a first for team "INTO THE RED". Never have we been this strong.

A force to be reckoned with?.....time will tell.

Well, Ferrari won the first race and from there McLaren have been on every podium, so that is where your points are coming from.

It is kind of strange to see the points so high due to this new system and I think it causes everyone to be a lot closer than they normally would have been.

A much better weekend for me, aided heavily by Alonso's podium finish and Mercedes engines finishing 1-2, 6th and 9-10 (how does that work exactly?). First engine to score gets you the points.

Hamilton won so everyone with a Mercedes engine gets 25 points.
The second engine to cross was Alonso's Ferrari, so everyone with that engine gets 18 points.

Make sense?
