Also strange when you consider that Ferrari will be running 7 & 8 on their cars this year.

Well it is obviously the 2008 car but I wasn't sure if demonstration laps in year-old cars are permitted.

They are not allowed. Look at the difference in lighting on the helmet compared to the rest of the car. Its obviously a doctored image... :)

I was more interested in the fact that the refueling door is open.

That front left wheel looks like it's seen better days.

Also, does this car have an engine? Where the exhaust pipes shouls be there's just a matt cover.

Sure it has. If you look carefully you will see that the matt black cover is not flat, the exhaust are on the part that is looking rearward, it' just they are not protruding out of the bodywork anymore.
Take a look at pictures of the F60 that show the car from the rear.

Anyway it is most probably a photoshoped image, look at the mechanic, he's got short sleeve shirt on, so it can't be a picture taken now in Europe.

It will probably shut automatically like it does during races once the car has completed its pitstop. :)

My point was that it had to be a 2009 car because a 2010 car wouldn't have a refueling door.

I'm sure it'll have a refueling door mate otherwise they wouldn't be able to fill the car up initially would they? I know they can't use it during races but it can be used for qualifying in 2010, and I can't see any reason why it would be situated in a different place on the car. Maybe I've misunderstood you?

Would you want an automatically operated fuelling door, on a car you cannot re-fuel mid-race. The electronic gubbins associated with it's operation is weight saved when removed, isn't it?

Exactly, there are much simpler and cost effective ways to access the fuel tank.

It'll be intresting to see where they put the door in 2010. I must admit I assumed it would still be situated on the side of the car as at present the fuel tank is behind the drivers back. Whereabouts do you guys think it will be accessed? :)

Not sure, but as others have said, they will certainly remove the automatic mechanism. I'm not sure on the regs on this, but I would have thought the teams would prefer not to have a refuelling 'door' on the outside of the bodywork at all.

It doesn't matter if you have to remove the engine cover for example, in order to put the fuel in, as it doesn't need to be done very often and when it is done, they won't be under any particular time pressure to do so.

As to the picture, it does look photoshopped, but there's nothing to suggest the car is actually moving, they could have put Alonso in and pushed the car out of the pits a little.

I suppose that could be an option regarding the engine cover. During qualifying though, will they not qualify pretty much as before using lighter fuel loads? If for example Vettel goes out on a one lap charge and his lap is messed up, there would be no quick method to refuel the car in this circumstance.


I believe they must start Q3 with race fuel. So there is to be no fuelling after the gap between Q2 and Q3.



There still needs to be an easy method of getting fuel into the car I would have thought, as they'll need to refuel after each stage of qualifying. I know time is not as critical in theory, but they need a failsafe for the unexpected.

Getting the engine cover off and back on again doesn't take very long at all, it's just that in pit stops every fraction of a second counts, there is plenty of time between Q sessions.

Well, I like the design.
Grupo Santander provides 40m euros a year for at least 5 years, so that's the minimum they were probably expecting for that money! :D

BTW: I know it is off topic, but I don't think a new topic just for this would be really necessary.

I like the helmet design. It looks better than Felipe's and MUCH better than Schumacher's all red (maybe orange) design with no imagination.
