View Full Version : RBR South African Internet Rally Championship 2010

The idea behind this championship is to give the competitors events to do inbetween Cup events.
The championship will be based on the rules and regulations of the South African Rally Championship. Therefore the rules are as follows:
1) No WRC cars allowed. Only cars from S2000, N4 and A7-A5 / N3-N1 allowed.
2) Events will be held over "2 days" rather than the 3 of Cup events. About 6 stages per event.
3) There will be championships for Overall, Manufacturers as well as individual class championships. Note, no Teams championship.
4) Overall points will be awarded as follows according to position: 25,21,19,17,16,15,14,13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 . Class points will be awarded according to position in class on the following system: 9,6,4,3,2,1
Manufacturers points will be a combination of overall and class points of a competitor. All points finishers for each manufacturer count towards that manufacturer's total. Best 7 results of 8 events count.
5) All other rules as per RBR MF Cup events.

Looks very interesting and should keep us busy between the Cup events. How many competitors can we expect for this championship?

I guess there won't be any common stages between MFCup
and South African rally, right?

Well given that the MF events use all the stages available at some point or other you will be running stages again. However, SA rallies are all-gravel events, with the odd "spectator" tarmac stage thrown in so you won't have full on tarmac stages or snow.
As for the African spirit, well I'm going to try and capture the characteristics of each event, so for eg the Tour Natal Rally (my "home" event btw) is run in very twisty sugarcane fields on Australia-like ball-bearing surfaces, and the cane makes it rather blind event. The closest I can think to to that is Japan. The Cape Rally is usually fast and rough, Rally of SA has the longest stages in the championship, Sasol Rally is all forest and spectator tarmac stages, the VW Rally is also in the forests, the Mountain Trial is up in the mountains and extremely fast, the Swartland is similar to the Cape rally (held in almost the same area), and the Gauteng rally is traditionally soaking wet and muddy tracks through grasslands.
But I should imagine given that its S2000 and N4 cars running at the front that it should make it quite a different championship. I would expect events to be closer, judging from what I've seen before with the S2000 vs N4 battles here.
I'm looking to cut back my competing in the main championship, due to personal reasons, but I will try to keep involved in this one. All depends on what updates happen on this flaming RSRBR mod. Personally I can't keep up with them... :angryfire :

@Francis44 - yeah you can join. Same entry rules as the normal Cup events.
I was originally going to not have a team championship with this one but I've decided it would be more fun to have one for this too, as well as the manufacturers championship.

Well, perhaps not quite as silly as asking if any of them are on snow... :laugh:

No, none of them are tarmac rallies. We've only had one all-tar event in the SA Championship history and that was in 1998, otherwise they're all-gravel except for spectator stages.

No, because I want this championship to be true to the real championship, which has no tarmac stages. If they add in a tarmac rally (unlikely) then I would do so. I will be running more tarmac rallies on the MF Cup events from next season.
