Yet more news to add to the good news column. The WRC is in danger of becoming a positive place again!

Best news of the year.

Hope it does return in it's old form, rather than the special stage varient in the IRC a few years ago.

I like to see Safari back in the WRC calender, too. Some classic events should be in the WRC calender every year, I think Safari is one of them.

Feasibly by 2013 we could have a championship with 4+ manufacturers and both the Safari and the Monte reinstated. This is just the latest in ISC's wave of proposed improvements that take the sport forward by essentially moving it back fifteen years.

I hope they start undoing some of the tyre regs next. Followed by 3-car works teams.

Good news, been watching the past events and can't believe it's not in the calendar anymore :( Absolutely spectacular.

Have they got a date for the 2010 event yet?

The bigest issue behind the Safari gaining a spot in the WRC again is the safety aspect. At the moment the stages are still on open roads with 'Jo Public' able to come and go as they please. To block off every single track and man entire stages would require more manpower than the organisers can find at the moment.

The 2010 Safari is using new stages in an effort to find roads that are easier to control, but rallying is still extremely popular in Kenya and the crowds are used to doing things the old fashioned way so fingers crossed it works.

Jamie - the date is 2-4 April :-)

It is good to have a WRC in Africa, but will the Safari Rally be the real Safari Rally, or just a sort of substitute only using the name and the glory of the Safari Rally? And will the teams have to built special tank made cars to compete in the Safari Rally?

I imagine it will be similar to what they needed to do in 2002 on the last running of the event. The cars had a few moderations but weren't that different. Probably the same kind of event setup too so it depends whether that shorter event was to your liking. The atrition rate was still always high and the roads/surroundings were all unmistakeable. I don't think it is realistic to ask for a return to the format of the 80's or even the early 90's.

I would personally like them to push the boat out and make this four full days to really make it an event. Crossing everything that the organisers can put together a decent event.

hopefully, they will do the research, and take the Safari, back to how it was, it some ways atleast, if its a modern day sprint rally, i im glad its coming back thou :)

It would be very PC though, with short closed stages.

What has that go to do with this thread?

Good. However even if it is in the calendar there is no guarantee it will contain at least 1000km of competitive running, like the last WRC Safari rally.

Langdale Forest

But the Safari Rally in 2002 was challenging enough for the WRC IMO.

safari is all about endurance not sprints so only the fittest survives to win. :s mokin:
