Wow! Talk about out of left-field, especially when it was thought Petronas money and backing would either stay with the new Sauber, or go to the new Lotus team due to the Malaysian Givernment link or that both Sauber/Lotus would enjoy some Petronas backing each

I can imagine their branding will be the same as in the BMW days in that they wont use their corporate colours and that instead they will fall in line with Mercedes master branding (most likely a standard black on the new Siver Arrows)

Otherwise, silver and Petronas Turquoise dont really go do they! :)

Still - Wow - and good deal for Merc as like Red Bull, Marlboro etc, Petronas are one of those key long term sponsors who get and buy into F1

Petronas MercedesMercedes Grand Prix has signed a long-term sponsorship agreement with Malaysian oil firm Petronas.

Petronas, which formerly sponsored the BMW Sauber team and had been linked with new Malaysian F1 team Lotus, will become title partner to the German manufacturer.

The team has released a concept image of the car, but the final Petronas-liveried Mercedes will be unveiled at the team's launch, and will take to the track for the first time on February 1 at Valencia.

"Everyone at Mercedes GP is delighted to confirm out long-term agreement with Petronas," said team principal Ross Brawn.

"Our plans for the new season are progressing well, as is the development of our 2010 challenger. We look forward to seeing the car run in the new Silver Arrows and Petronas livery at Valencia."........

That's a surprise, as most people expected Petronas to ally with Lotus or Sauber, but... Mercedes is a very good opportunity!

This makes me worried for Sauber, I hope Panasonic will fund them.

Bad news for Sauber. I was expecting them to continue their Petronas partnership.

I don't know, Mercedes probably courted them and got the deal done, IMO that's it. A very good and loyal partner to any team, Petronas.

im liking the livery already. good to see the petronas lime green colour is moderate to not clash with the silver. cant wait to see these cars on the grid next year, with hopefully rosberg and schumacher at the wheel...

yeah maybe. none of us know the full story, but the possible lotus link was the big indicator i got from this.

anyhow, we will just have to wait and see what the future unfolds.

I suppose they don't need to 'win' the money given that they already have a contract for that amount.

I meant the "Petronas" blue highlights - similar shade.

If Petronas are chucking €30m at Mercedes GP and they already get €50m for winning the Constructor's Championship etc, then that means that Mercedes GP starts with €80m without even putting in a pennycent themselves.

With MS onboard they are now safe.

I feel pity for humble and and FA.

Those news came totally out of blue as there were rumours about Petronas' decision to completely withdraw from Formula One. But bad news for underdogs and not only for Sauber, but also Lotus. :\

Silver, teal and Mr Schumachers red skid lid - YUCK!

His helmets were a similar blue and white scheme to his marlboro red scheme when with Bennetton. I suspect we'll see revised but similar star scheme with his traditional bands and german colors on a silver helmet to match the silver mercedes.
