Summerton to test Formula 2

After a barn-burning Atlantic Series, Jonathan
Summerton will make his bid to enter the 2010
grid as he begins testing in Formula 2. Being
the best hopeful according to USF1, the
Atlantic series runner-up is in Portimao
to fullfill his quest to enter the Formula 1
grid. A sponsor package would be a nice
Christmas if he can get into F1.

It can be either with Williams if he wins the
F2 crown or to USF1 with best results.

I don't think that winning the F2 championship will automatically get you into F1, and probably not at Williams if you did. Having a lot of money would help, assuming USF1 are still around then and he does at least reasonably in F2 then he's a possibility. But I don't currently see Soucek anywhere on the F1 grid, possibly because he was a midfield GP2 driver beforehand and presumably therefore not as good as Piquet, Grosjean, etc. Well, that and he has a habit of suing people.

F2 is nothing. Really. Far off the radar, low quality, low-tech. Winning F2 will get Summerton (or Hildebrand as mentioned in the other thread) nowhere at all. I don't know which fool at the FIA gave Palmer the right to use that name for the series, but I really hope that the management teams of the upcoming US drivers understand that a move to F2 is a move down. Winning F2 in a dominant fashion might get them a lower-half GP2 ride, if they bring 100% sponsorship. Not dominating F2 means they are out of it. Period.
