As the decade of the 200Xs draw to a close, it is time to bring out the crystal ball and consider what the WRC scene might look like in ten years time.
I will leave personalities out of my post.
WRC car - 800cc turbo biofuel/ petrol blend internal combustion engine/ electric hybrid. The car must use within 15 percent of the manufacturer's base cars fuel economy.

Electro-2020 - all electric cars that are recharged at the official FIA powerpoint during service so all the charge delivered is officially recorded. Class winner is the lowest time and additional points on charge use data.

Diesel - The junior drivers use small diesel powered cars. Drivers are given the choice to nominate mineral or biodiesel before each round of the junior series.

Experimental - class where builder's can real world trial, no points, tough safety check only. www.shepherdengine.com (http://www.shepherdengine.com) etc can be run Sort of like the French Mille Pistes ? where prototypes ran.

Maybe by 2020 the FIA will have decided the rules for 2011.

You may right but at least IRC is not excisting even from 2011 when my strong feeling is that they (IRC and WRC) are consolidated already. ;)

I like IRC but I could live with that as long as we get the best bits from both championships and not just the WRC we have now.

No, but luckily Malcolm retains another 5 year plan for him!

WRC 2020, hard to tell, the first post could be more or less truthfull.

Maybe by 2020 the FIA will have decided the rules for 2011. Doubtful.

Very likely. It's already well on the way to being there now.

And Petter Solberg would have had hair a mile long by 2020 if he did not cut it since 2005!

By 2020, Wilson would be older than Sainz when he retired and still not manage to win a rally.

If we survive 2012, would the 2020 WRC be in flying saucers??

I'm not the one digging up old threads to add nothing but three words for the sake of it. It's very peculiar behaviour.

Oh my god. Don't you get it?? It does not matter if the thread is a week or 15 years old, the thing is that the phrase "Not at all" isnt helping the discussion any further.

Maybe stop drawing so much attention to yourself. Then you might not get "sniped". That tends to be how these things work.

I really hope that the Wrc still is existing in 2020. Would be a shame otherwise... The environment questions are something we can't look away from any longer so i think these issues will have big influence on the future motorsports of course. Electric cars going ralliying? As another member earlier mentioned that is hard to imagine due to the sound.. thats a big part of rallying of course..

Really hard to say but i sure think it will be more changes from 10-20 than from 00-10.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing electric cars rallying... I think electric vehicles in some form or another should be the future and could have big performance advantages over gasoline.

But as far as environmental concerns go, gas rally cars really aren't a concern. Really, I'm sure the pollution from all the cars over an entire event is far less than that produced by just one jet plane flight. Still, some environmentalists love getting all worked up about some small issue without looking at the bigger picture.

WRC events will never be totally green, with all the service vehcles driving around. Even if the cars are electric.

There will still be a WRC, but it will probably be even more dumbed down....

15-20 two day events.... Though I hope I'm wrong.

Well considering how slow they are in changements and the lack of a long term plan, I think it won't be too much different from now actually.
