The Auto Club 500 is this weekend as Kevin Harvick will be hoping to repeat his Daytona win. However this race is typically won by Roush Racing drivers. Can Mark Martin get his revenge on Sunday.
What do you think?
Jonesi
22nd February 2007, 18:11
I doubt Mark Martin feels the need for revenge. He's a racer who wants to win all the races he's entered in.
The history of wins at this race is: 6 Ford (4 Roush) 4 Chevy (all Hendrick). Mark's in a Hendrick supported car and should run well. The track is wide & smooth so passing isn't a problem. With few cautions to group things up, usually a car or two hits the right setup and drives away from everyone.

The driver to watch is Kasey Kahne. He won this race in the fall and he'll be strong again this year at these tracks.

All the Hendrick cars were fast including the supported Ginn ones with Joe N fastest.
Jonesi
24th February 2007, 00:58
J Gordon's fastest so far with 12 cars qualified. He bettered his 3rd fastest practice time by 1 mph. Most cars are improving about 1/2 mph so the track is getting faster.
Jonesi
24th February 2007, 01:20
Joe Nemechek ran 2 1/2 mph off his practice speed, 7th of 17.
For the guys that need to qualify to get in, 182 should do it, 180 or less probably won't.

Top 5 qualifying: Jeff Gordon, Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Junior
JPM 9th, Stewart 11th, JJ 23rd, Kenseth 25th, Dale Jarrett uses another Past Champion's provisional. Brian VIckers was 15th for Red Bull, but AJA goes home again Also going home are Michael Waltrip, Ward Burton and Jeremy Mayfield. Mikey's still negative points for another week, but owner Buffy Waltrip is in the black, because she gets credit for 44th in qualifying. She now has 4 pts :)

Calfornia racing is :s nore:
the Busch race was dull. They need to shorten the track, add more banking. something, we don't need a Michigan Jr. track.
but RCR has been stout all week. Bowyer will get his first career win today.
Hendrick and Roush will be up their.
thank goodness for Mexico next week, where we get some road racing :D

If there's going to be (as expected) a lot of green running, it it such a problem for drivers having tight cars, as surely they will get looser as the tyres wear? So if they give themselves loose cars now, they might not be able to hold the low lines later in a stint.

Way too many commercials already, and NASCAR takes way to long to get a race started after the program starts. They need to be more like other sports.

Robby Gordon is doing pretty good right now, up to about 25th, for being the slowest guy in the race, in the race only because of last year points standings.

If you get "Race View" which is the entire package I think it's around $75 for a yearly subscription. You can also pay monthly, or purchase portions of the package-just the radio scanner, etc- for less.
The race view gives you leaderboard, scanner, timing, news ticker, video clips, etc, etc, and you can watch a 3D rendition of any car.

Three new teams trying to put 7-8 cars in each race. The one thing that they don't have (and need badly) is consistency, and it's going to take months to develope.

I can't get the radio to work either, so I have both the Race View and Scanner windows open...CPU seems to be able to handle it(lots of Java apps). The 3D renderings aren't all that great, but it has potential, and it lets you really see where guys are on the track.
I'm still undecided though...I'm using NASCAR's 14 day trial right now.

Looks like Montoya is 3 cars away from getting the lucky dog pass whenever a caution happens. He needs to overtake both Stremme and Reutimann. Then at next caution he will be on lead lap.

When it originally happened, He actually was on the tail end of the lead lap 40+seconds back of the leader, but he and several others were lapped. RIght now he's second of the cars not on lead lap. If he can pass teammate Stremme, He'll be the first one lap down and he'll get it, assuming no one else now on the lead lap is lapped in the meantime.
